RCMP arrest man living in N.S. for sexual offences with a minor

An RCMP investigation in Prince Edward Island led to charges against a man who was allegedly exchanging sexually explicit pictures with a minor via Snapchat, said a Friday news release. The man allegedly travelled to the Lloydminster, Alb., to commit further sexual offences. Travis James Birt, 29, of Nova Scotia is charged with: Sexual Assault Sexual Interference Child Luring Possession of child pornography Making sexually explicit material available to a child. Police said they received a complaint about the shared images on March 18. Lloydminster RCMP identified the suspect when they took over the investigation, said the release. Birt, from P.E.I., was living in Ontario when the Snapchat exchange started, said police. Police said they learned he was living in Nova Scotia and RCMP obtained a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest on May 27. Birt was brought before a justice of the peace and taken into custody. He will appear before the Saskatchewan Provincial Court on June 9. Sgt. Nutbrown of the Lloydminster RCMP said they released Birt's image in hopes that other potential victims will come forward. Nova Scotia man accused of sexually abusing Lloydminster youth

(Source: Alberta RCMP) A Nova Scotia man has been accused of sexually abusing a minor in Lloydminster, Alta. Travis James Birt, 29, is originally from Nova Scotia but was living in Ontario when police say he began a Snapchat exchange of sexually explicit pictures with the Lloydminster youth. He then went to Lloydminster to commit other offences, according to Lloydminster RCMP, to whom the crimes were reported on March 18. As Birt moved back to Nova Scotia while police were investigating, Nova Scotia police executed the arrest warrant on May 27. Birt was charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, child luring, possession of child pornography and making sexually explicit material available to a child. He is scheduled to appear in court in Lloydminster on Monday. Mounties said there could be other victims.
