Chief's Corner: National Police Week

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — During this week's Chief's Corner, Police Chief Travis Griffith talks with KLST-TV's Carolyn McEnrue to talk about National Police Week. National Police week is celebrated every year this time in May. This week kicked off with a Flag Raising Ceramony on Monday. Griffith talked about how this is a great way to celebrate and honor the ones who gave the 'ultimate sacrifice'. On Tuesday the Police Department hosted a Fun Run at 5:30 p.m. Runners had to option to run a 5k or a one mile walk. The last thing Griffith talked about was a safety meeting held at Sierra Vista Church on May 31 that he called Church Safety. He said there they will discuss how to improve church safety with church volunteers. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. San Angelo honors fallen officers with police week ceremony

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — A flag-raising ceremony at San Angelo's City Hall on Monday, May 12, marked the beginning of National Police Week activities. 'We don't always do it perfect, but the vast majority of times we do,' said Police Chief Travis Griffith. 'We show up and we do what needs to be done.' The ceremony is a remembrance for those who have died in the line of duty. The last San Angelo Police Officer to die in the line of duty was Sgt. Korby Kennedy. Kennedy died in a motorcycle crash near Lake Nasworthy almost 10 years ago. 'Every day, officers are giving up moments with their family, moments with sporting events they can't get back, and holidays and stuff, so there's always a sacrifice. It's just sometimes it's an ultimate sacrifice,' Griffith said. On Tuesday, May 13, the annual San Angelo Police Week Run will take place beginning at 5:30 at the Bosque, 330 S. Irving. The event includes food trucks and music. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
