FBI statistics show Arkansas tops nation in 2024 Active Shooter report

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The latest FBI Active Shooter annual report places Arkansas at the top in one category. The report for 2024 was released in June, compiling data from all 50 states. It shows that in 2024, Arkansas led the nation in the highest number of victims from an active shooting event. Victims killed in Fordyce mass shooting identified Arkansas reported four killed and 10 wounded as a result of the June 21, 2024, shooting at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce. The suspected shooter, 45-year-old Travis Posey of New Edinburg, is currently being held in the Ouachita County Detention Center without bond. Court records show Posey is facing multiple counts of capital murder and attempted capital murder with an Aug. 4 trial date. Texas had the most incidents, at four, followed by two incidents each in California and North Carolina. The remaining states, Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming, as well as Arkansas, reported one incident each that year. The 24 events resulted in 22 deaths and 78 wounded, according to the FBI The FBI defines an active shooter as one or more people actively engaging in killing or attempting to kill people in a populated area.
