Captain Shannon Hampton says that at about 3:15 p.m., officers were on Mettetal Street and Fullerton Avenue conducting an investigation when they spotted the people they were looking for coming out of a house. Hampton says the individuals got into a car and drove head-on into a police car before taking off. No one else was reported to be hurt. Hampton says the incident is not connected to Thursday's shooting in Redford Township that injured Detroit rapper Skilla Baby. In that shooting, Redford police say the 26-year-old, whose real name is Trevon Gardner, "suffered three non-fatal gunshot wounds" before he crashed his car into a building. Police say Gardner is expected to make a full recovery.

Skilla Baby Shot Multiple Times in Drive-By Shooting
Skilla Baby (real name Trevon Gardner) was the victim of a drive-by shooting in Redford, Mich., on Thursday evening (May 22), Billboard can confirm. A press release from the Redford Township Police Department — who did not identify the Detroit rapper — said a male was transported to a local hospital to have his non-life-threatening injuries treated. The lead investigator on the case, Edward French, told TMZ that the suspect pulled up alongside the rapper's car and fired an estimated 25 times. When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered a bullet-ridden vehicle, but Skilla Baby — who was alone in the car, according to the press release — was already being transported to a local hospital. Per FOX2, the rapper was grazed in the head and back, and also shot in the hand area. He was alert during his time in the hospital and is expected to recover. Police are still searching for the unidentified gunman, who fled the scene. Billboard has reached out to Skilla Baby's reps for comment. Last year, Skilla partnered with the Detroit City Council to produce a gun buyback event, aiming to reduce gun violence across his hometown. 'It was successful,' the 26-year-old told Billboard of the event. 'We got 300 guns off the street. I think the underrated part of the gun buyback was that it was a job fair and we expunged a lot of people's records. That was important to me, because I'm a felon, and to help people change their life and the trajectory of their future — people judge you, and it's hard to be successful when you're a felon.' 2024 was a busy year for Skilla Baby, who delivered a pair of projects with The Coldest to start the campaign, followed by Crack Music 3 in November. Skilla Baby Injured In Alleged Targeted Drive-By Shooting
Skilla Baby sustained injuries after a drive-by shooting caused him to crash his vehicle into a building. According to TMZ, investigators believe the rapper is the victim of a 'targeted attempt on his life.' The 26-year-old, whose real name is Trevon Gardner, was driving through his hometown of Detroit when the shooting occurred. The tabloid reported the 'Icky Vicky Vibes' performer was alone while cruising through 8 Mile and Beech Daly on Thursday evening (May 22). Lead investigator Edward French informed the tabloid that the unknown suspect pulled up next to Skilla Baby's vehicle and fired roughly 25 rounds. The bullets caused the rapper to swerve and crash into a building, which had to be boarded up due to the damage. The shooter fled the scene; however, a witness transported the musician to the hospital and called law enforcement. Skilla Baby was reportedly shot in the hand, grazed twice in the head and back, and suffered a thigh injury. According to TMZ, French claimed the God's Favorite rapper was doing well and shared a message of gratitude for the support from his fans. In a video shared to Instagram by Metro, a black Tahoe truck is shown lodged into a building. Police are also seen on the scene, marking bullet casings on the ground. The rapper's most recent full project is Crack Music 3, which was issued in November 2024. 'Detroit is gritty but small. Everyone either wants to rap, hoop, or play sports,' detailed Skilla Baby of the Motor City last year with AllHipHop. 'I slept on Eminem for a while, but man, he's one of the greatest. Detroit's always had talent—Motown, Aretha Franklin, Anita Baker, Big Sean, and so many more. People overlook us, but we're coming strong now. Detroit versus everybody!'
