D.C. police conducted a traffic stop near 1820 7th Street NW for a traffic infraction. During the stop, officers reportedly saw open containers of alcohol in the car and asked everyone to step out of the vehicle.
While officers attempted to place the front passenger, Trevon Vines, in handcuffs, they saw a handgun in his front left jacket pocket.
The gun had been reported stolen from a gun dealer in White Plains, Maryland.
An investigation revealed that Vines has multiple prior convictions. At the time of the incident, Vines was prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition under federal and D.C. law. He also did not have a license to carry or own a firearm in the District.
Vines pleaded guilty to illegal possession of a firearm Tuesday.
