Rise and fall of SRH expectations
IPL is over. At least for SRH. Some other team will win. Probably Mumbai. Why? Because it's their app. They haven't won on their own app even once. And they also need a new headline after the Ambani wedding. So yeah… that's how I place my bets. Now, sports journalists will say SRH was inconsistent this year. I disagree. This was the most habitual a Hyderabadi team has ever been. This is how we play when we have absolutely no plans of winning a trophy. This season took me straight back to 2008 — great lineup, one huge score, a couple of centuries… and still comfortably chilling in the bottom half of the table. It's in our DNA. A tradition started by the Hyderabad Ranji team, officially launched by the Deccan Chargers, and now faithfully carried forward by SRH. And hey, we still finished sixth. Above KKR and Chennai. We found joy in other teams' suffering — a concept I recently learned a word for: Schadenfreude. (Thanks, Trevor Noah.) By the fourth match itself, we knew the pattern. So Hyderabad did what it does best — we moved on. JCBs went to work on the HCU campus. Students went to protest. We shifted focus from cheering overseas players to chasing Miss World contestants. Instead of making a fan poster of Nitish Reddy, someone made a funny portrait of Revanth Reddy. Priorities shifted.

'Ultimate scam artist?': Trevor Noah on Elon Musk's antics
Trevor Noah has weighed in on the widespread criticism of Elon Musk, also a South African, who has been accused of spreading 'misinformation' about his country of birth. This follows the tech billionaire businessman's clash with the local government, which called on his satellite company, Starlink, to abide by transformation legislation. He's also addressed Afrikaner 'refugees' and claims that they are being persecuted. During an episode of his What Now? Podcast – titled Is Elon Musk the ultimate scam artist – Trevor Noah delved into the Pretoria-born billionaire's controversies. The South African comedian touched on topics like Elon's upbringing, his views on Apartheid, and how he has used that to further his business interests. Trevor Noah – who is also a US citizen like Elon – accused the X owner of being 'erratic', working through 'manic' episodes, and essentially manipulating his position of power and influence. Trevor said: 'Elon's plight with South Africa started when he wasn't able to launch Starlink in South Africa… Elon [took it personally] and was like 'I'm going to find a way to break the system 'He is supremely talented at finding the right lever to pull, and he will pull it'. During the episode, Trevor Noah also took a swipe at Afrikaner 'refugees' who recently arrived in the US. According to Elon Musk and President Donald Trump, South Africa's 'racist laws' and 'white genocide' Trevor joked about meeting the 'refugees' at his local golf club, where they complained about how 'tough' it was in SA. Of the US's refugee status offer to white South Africans, Trevor added: 'That is a joke, it's actually funny'. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1 . Trevor Noah questioned over silence on Trump's claim of ‘white genocide' in SA
Last year, Noah said he still kept up with what's happening in South Africa, despite being out of the country. Comedian Trevor Noah has been accused of not being patroitic enough. Picture: Stephen McCarthy / Getty Images US actress Viola Davis' comments on Donald Trump's claims of a white genocide in South Africa have led to accusations that comedian Trevor Noah is not patriotic enough. Davis, who has visited Mzansi many times and has always expressed her affection for the country, recently expressed her anger at Trump's utterances about white people being murdered in South Africa. 'Spent a lot of time in Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Paarl, and Durban… there is no argument. There is no justification. I've seen the ravages of apartheid. I've seen the townships — all Black. Full stop,' wrote Davis in response to a CNN roundtable discussion about alleged genocide in the country. The discussion took place after President Cyril Ramaphosa visited the White House last week, accompanied by a delegation. The criticism of Noah most likely stems from his role as the host of The Daily Show, where he has torn into the day's politics through satire. This has set an expectation that he should always comment on some of the biggest political activities. Last year, Noah told Radio 702 that he still follows what happens in South Africa, despite being out of the country. 'First and foremost, it's always home. My friends are here, my family is here, so the conversations are about what's happening here. I follow the politics, I follow the news…the only things you have to experience yourself are widespread load shedding, a traffic jam [that turns] into a roadblock,' said Noah at the time. Some South Africans seem to be irked by his silence, especially when he's aware of what is happening. Several Americans have commented on this, slamming the fiasco. US rapper Vic Mensa recently went on TikTok to give a brief lesson on the history of modern-day South Africa in a video titled 'South Africa, Colonization, and the Right to Exist.' #southafrica #colonization ♬ original sound – Vic Mensa @vicmensa does the colonizer have the right to exist? nations & empires are founded by conquest, not by god given right during my time in south africa i wrote a few essays, i think ill post one on substack later – let me know if you want me to send it to you #colonizer 'By now I'm sure we've all seen the foolishness of white South African 'refugees' escaping an imaginary genocide,' he said in the intro of the video. 'When I was in South Africa one of the most infuriating things was learning that the European 10% minority of the population held 90% of the wealth, that sh*t boiled my f*cken blood,' shared the rapper. Social commentator Dan Corder took to social media to clarify the situation. Seasoned comedian DL Hughley initially shared Corder's video, which was liked by Davis and US comedian Wanda Sykes. A Decade of Human Connection: Workhuman Wraps It's Tenth Workhuman Live Conference; Announces Workhuman Live 2026 in Orlando, Florida
With bold keynotes, AI-powered innovation, and a decade of impact, the world's leading HR event continues to inspire people leaders to connect, recognize, and transform the future of work FRAMINGHAM, Mass., May 15, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Workhuman®, the world's leading employee recognition company, wrapped the tenth instance of its flagship event Workhuman Live, in Denver, where thousands of HR leaders gathered to reimagine what it means to create thriving workplace cultures. This year's Workhuman Live wasn't just a look ahead—it was a mirror held up to the profession. It asked HR leaders not just to adapt to change, but to own it. To stop supporting from the sidelines and start architecting the future of work with data, dignity, and bold decisions. From May 12–15, thousands of HR leaders, practitioners, and executives from around the globe gathered. The mainstage came alive with headlining speakers like Trevor Noah, Adam Grant, and a who's who of industry trailblazers, offering fresh insight into leadership, workplace culture, and the human experience at work. Workhuman customers shared how they're using recognition not as a perk, but as a performance strategy—showing measurable impact on engagement, retention, and inclusion. "Workhuman Live has become more than a conference—it's an entire movement," said Tom Libretto, President of Workhuman. "It's where people leaders come to recharge, rethink their impact, and return to their organizations with the tools and momentum to build better workplaces." And this year's event proved that the work of the HR industry has never been more important. Among the many highlights, Workhuman and The Wall Street Journal Leadership Institute announced the launch of the inaugural CPO Council—a first-of-its-kind coalition bringing together visionary Chief People Officers to elevate the role of HR in shaping strategic business outcomes. The Council represents a bold step forward in redefining the impact of people leaders at the highest levels of the enterprise. Innovations in Human Intelligence: Turning Recognition into a Live View of Workplace Culture Another defining moment of this year's event was the debut of Workhuman Topics™, the newest addition to Workhuman's Human Intelligence™ suite. Topics uses advanced AI to turn recognition moments into a living, breathing map of how strategic priorities—like inclusion, innovation, or leadership behaviors—are actually showing up in the culture. No forms to fill out. No added workload. Just continuous, real-time insight into how values and strategies are being reinforced across every team, function, and geography. Topics is the newest innovation in Workhuman's launch of Human Intelligence—new AI-powered tools that help companies understand what's really happening in their culture. While others focus on giving rewards, Workhuman leverages recognition data to help leaders see who's making an impact, how teams are working together, and where support is needed. Workhuman Live 2026 The next frontier of business isn't digital, it's human. In a world driven by AI and automation, Workhuman is calling HR to lead with purpose, insight, and recognition as a growth lever. HR leaders are encouraged to enhance their learning, networking, and professional growth at Workhuman Live 2026, which will take place April 27–30, 2026 in Orlando, Florida.
