Founded by Tricia Survé, who hails from the same community in Wellington, the goals of the foundation, she said, are all about uplifting communities, restoring dignity, and igniting new flames of hope - all in aspiration of its long-term goals to facilitate healing and transformation to those whose lives they impact. 'I've recently started this foundation, which I'm very passionate about," she said, adding that she pours all her energy into Wellington and in particular Newton, where she grew up. "I think that things have changed quite a lot in that community. Even when I go and visit, it's evident that things have turned for the worse, and my goal with the foundation is to help them and to uplift them," she said. The foundation, established by Ms Survé last year, has three pillars: philanthropy, community, and soul food. Its current objective is to serve and focus solely on the Newton community as a starting point for giving back, empowering, uplifting, and supporting people with compassion and understanding. The foundation recently hosted an event in Newton, during which 100 women and children were treated to essential clothing, shoes, food parcels, and served a warm meal and refreshments. Mrs Survé addressed the women at the event, delivering words of encouragement and solidarity. One of the beneficiaries whose circumstances have been positively transformed through the assistance and support of the foundation is the Little Star Pre-School in Newton. School principal Jouwenen Le Cordeur said the foundation assisted the school in multiple ways. 'Last year, the foundation visited the school on an outreach, and Tricia and her team of people came out to do fun and educational activities with our children. We could see how the children enjoyed it by the smiles on their faces; the day really lifted our children's spirits.' Ms Le Cordeur said what made the outreach even more special is that after the event, the foundation donated all the resources used during the interactive play sessions to the school. So, buckets of play-dough and other ECD tools were donated to the school. Additionally, children on the day were spoiled with snack packs and warm knitted caps to ward off winter chills. 'Even the parents were very grateful and thanked the foundation for what they have done,' said Ms Le Cordeur, adding that she appreciates how the foundation prefers getting involved with the children on a personal level, by spending time with them and interacting with them. Financially, the foundation's assistance in the form of a monthly contribution allocated to the salaries of ECD staff has been a lifeline and a welcome financial breather to both the school and parents. She looks forward to future workshops in the pipeline, she said. 'We are very grateful to the foundation because through their assistance they are not only putting smiles on our children's faces, but in their involvement with the school they are making us as staff feel seen and valued; they have boosted our staff's morale, leaving us with a positive disposition,' she said.
