Both sides are tied on 79 points with one match remaining, with reigning champions Sporting set to triumph if they finish level, boasting a superior head-to-head record. Has an alternative to Florian Wirtz emerged for Manchester City?
Manchester City have long been linked with a summer move for Florian Wirtz. The Bayer Leverkusen playmaker looks to be the ideal player to add creativity to City's midfield this summer. But the possibility does exist that City could miss out on signing Wirtz this summer. If that was to eventuate City would have to look elsewhere to add creativity to their midfield. Firstly, a new report from BILD indicates that Wirtz prefers a move to Bayern Munich. Secondly, a new report has suggested that Manchester City could move for Sporting CP winger Francisco Trincao this summer. Perhaps Trincao could be an alternative to Florian Wirtz if City miss out on the German international. A new report from BILD indicates that Florian Wirtz wants to join Bayern Munich. German publication BILD has reported that Florian Wirtz has informed Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso that he only wants to move to Bayern Munich this summer. Furthermore, Bild has reported that Bayer Leverkusen bosses are yet to be made aware of Wirtz's decision. It is also reported by BILD that Wirtz does not want to move to Real Madrid or Manchester City this summer. Interestingly, Sky Germany reporter Marlon Irlbacher tweeted the following response to BILD's report. Has an alternative target to Florian Wirtz now emerged for Manchester City? Ahad Shaukat has reported for CaughtOffside that Manchester City have an interest in signing Sporting CP winger Francisco Trincao. Furthermore, Shaukat reports that City's potential move for Trincao is heavily influenced by Hugo Viana. Lastly, Shaukat reports that Manchester United, Arsenal, Newcastle United, Juventus and Barcelona have an interest in signing Trincao this summer. Francisco Trincao has been named as a potential Manchester City target. Francisco Trincao is a completely different type of player from Florian Wirtz. Typically, Trincao operates on the right wing. With his dribbling ability and eye for a pass, Trincao could add creativity to Pep Guardiola's squad. But he'd be more a winger than a player who can add creativity to City's midfield. Although, Trincao can operate as a shadow striker of sorts, which is a role he has played on occasion for Sporting CP this season. In statistics sourced from he has primarily played on the right wing this season. But when needed, he has played behind a frontman on other occasions. Perhaps, if Manchester City cannot sign Florian Wirtz they could look at Francisco Trincao as an alternative. But he'd likely be an option to play on a wing rather than in midfield in Pep Guardiola's side. So perhaps City will look elsewhere to add creativity to their midfield if they cannot land Florian Wirtz this summer.

Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United looking to give Barcelona financial boost
Barcelona have struggled to sell well in recent years, with their net spend in the transfer windows before the pandemic making queasy reading for the Blaugrana. However they could be about to make their money back on one of the investments that has been criticised in the past. The Catalan giants raced ahead of a number of other clubs to spending €31m on the Portuguese talent in 2020. Playing in the same position as Lionel Messi though, Trincao struggled to make his mark at Camp Nou, and after a loan spell at Wolves, Barcelona loaned and then sold him to Sporting CP for a total of €10m. Premier League move on the cards for Trincao Image via Team Talk They did include a 50% sell-on fee in that deal though, which could come in handy for them this summer. According to Caught Offside, Trincao is on the agenda for three of the Premier League's giants this summer. Arsenal have opened talks with his camp, and are willing to double his salary in London, while his Sporting links in the Premier League could also pave the way for a move. Advertisement Former manager Ruben Amorim is well aware of what he can do from the left side, providing creativity, and is keen on bringing him to Manchester United. Across the city, former Sporting Director at the Portuguese giants Hugo Viana is taking over transfer policy at Manchester City, and is advocating for a move. Newcastle United and Juventus are also mentioned as clubs with Trincao in mind. Sporting spanner in the works for Barcelona? Sporting are reluctant to lose Trincao though, who has nine goals and 18 assists in his 51 appearances this season. They value the 25-year-old at €40m, and are working to extend his contract. Were they to get that money, Barcelona would receive €20m for Trincao, which would almost make them their money back on the deal. Trincao's contract expires in 2026 though, and that puts Sporting in a weak negotiating position, with the potential to lose him on the cheap.

Arsenal make approach to sign ex-Barcelona winger with £66m clause
Arsenal have made an approach for Sporting CP winger Francisco Trincao, according to reports in Portugal. The 25-year-old has been one of Sporting's standout performers this season with nine goals and 18 assists in all competitions so far. Last month, it was reported that Manchester United have made Trincao one of their top attacking targets for the summer transfer window with Ruben Amorim having managed the midfielder at both Braga and Sporting. Portuguese newspaper Record led their front page on Friday with Arsenal's interest in Trincao, claiming that Mikel Arteta's side are one of three Premier League clubs who have begun talks for the Portugal international. The report adds that Arsenal have scouted Trincao extensively during his games for Sporting this season. Sporting, meanwhile, have been in talks to extend Trincao's current deal, which will have two years remaining at the end of the season and includes a €80m (£66.5m) release clause. Trincao already has Premier League experience following his season-long loan spell at Wolves in the 2021-22 campaign. Wolves opted not to sign the winger on a permanent deal and he ended up joining Sporting from Barcelona initially on loan in July 2022. Sporting permanently signed Trincao for €7m (£6m) the following summer but Barcelona included a €25m (£20.8m) buyback option, which expires next year, and retained 50 per cent sell-on clause as part of their agreement. Asked about his future in November, Trincao said: 'We have not spoken yet about my contract renewal. 'Everyone knows I am happy here at Sporting. I am very happy, I love Lisbon, this is my club, of course I am happy.' More Trending Meanwhile, Trincao's former Sporting teammate, Luis Neto, revealed last year how impressed he had been with the winger's development under Amorim. 'The player I saw doing in training everything that was difficult to transfer to the game was Trincao,' said the former Portugal international. 'In recovery training he was a complete standout, we saw him doing in training everything he does now. I had conversations with him and spoke to Paulinho and Esgaio, who knew him from Braga, about what was missing to move to another level. 'He added numbers, made wonderful plays, he was a decisive player and I am happy to have made that leap. There is no turning back now. My choice for the biggest surprise of the year would be Francisco.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Spain, France join Germany and Portugal in semis
PARIS: Holders Spain beat the Netherlands on penalties after a dramatic quarterfinal second legin Valencia finished 3-3 on Sunday to set up a Nations League last-four clash with France, who edged Croatia in a shoot-out after a 2-2 aggregate draw. On a dramatic night, Portugal battled past Denmark in extra time and will next face Finals hosts Germany after their tense 5-4 aggregate victory over Italy. European champions Spain took the lead in the tie, after Thursday's 2-2 first-leg draw, when Mikel Oyarzabal picked himself up after being fouled in the box to slot home an early penalty. The Netherlands equalised nine minutes into the second half as Memphis Depay also won and then netted a spot-kick. Oyarzabal grabbed his second in the 67th minute after a strong run forward by Nico Williams, only for the Dutch to level again with 11 minutes remaining through Ian Maatsen's fierce strike. Lamine Yamal struck shortly before the interval in extra time, though, curling the ball into the far corner after a couple of superb touches. There was yet another twist as Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon brought down Xavi Simons, who picked himself up to score. Spain edged home 5-4 in the shoot-out despite a miss from Yamal, as Simon saved from Netherlands winger Donyell Malen and Pedri struck the winning penalty. "We're Spain and we don't have to fear anyone," Pedri told TVE of facing 2021 Nations League winners France in the semifinals in Stuttgart on June 5. France wiped out a two-goal deficit against Croatia at the Stade de France. Michael Olise's brilliant free-kick broke the deadlock on the night in the 52nd minute, before Ousmane Dembele swept Olise's cutback into the bottom corner to send the quarterfinal to extra time. Theo Hernandez missed a penalty to win it for France in an eventful shoot-out, but Dayot Upamecano eventually secured a 5-4 success on penalties in sudden death. "We woke up thinking it could be a great night," Kylian Mbappe told TF1. "We were convinced we were going to do something great." - Trincao fires Portugal through - Portugal, inspired by substitute Francisco Trincao, battled back after losing the first game 1-0 to win a thrilling last-eight encounter with Denmark 5-3 on aggregate. Cristiano Ronaldo, after a stuttering run-up, produced the tamest of early penalties which was comfortably held by Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel. Portugal were gifted the lead on the night when Joachim Andersen put through his own net. But the Danes restored their aggregate advantage 11 minutes into the second half through Rasmus Kristensen's excellent header. Ronaldo did get his 136th international goal, though, turning the ball in after Schmeichel tipped Fernandes' shot against the post. But Portugal were caught out in the 76th minute when Christian Eriksen tapped home. The hosts managed to force an added half-hour when Schmeichel's weak punch fell to Mendes, who teed up Trincao to drill a shot into the bottom corner. Trincao netted his second in the first minute of extra time and Goncalo Ramos secured a meeting with Germany in Munich on June 4. - Germany hold off Italy fightback - Julian Nagelsmann's Germans survived an Italy comeback to win 5-4 on aggregate after a 3-3 draw in Dortmund. Germany extended their overall advantage on the half-hour mark when Joshua Kimmich tucked home a spot-kick before playing a key role in a bizarre second goal. Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma left his goal after making a save to complain at the referee and Kimmich took a quickly-taken corner which was flicked into an empty net by Jamal Musiala. Tim Kleindienst nodded in Kimmich's clipped cross on the stroke of half-time, but Moise Kean scored twice to give Italy a glimmer of hope heading into the last 20 minutes. Giacomo Raspadori converted a penalty in injury time to equalise on the night, but there was not long enough left for the Azzurri. "A football game is never perfect, but it was some unbelievable football, and the best I've seen us play," Germany coach Nagelsmann said. Elsewhere, Belgium narrowly avoided relegation to League B as two late goals from Romelu Lukaku helped them overturn a 3-1 first-leg deficit against Ukraine with a 3-0 victory. — AFP
