Iraq Prepares 18 Initiatives for Three Summits on Saturday, Government Spokesperson Says

Baghdad-INA Iraqi government spokesperson Basim Al-Awadi confirmed on Thursday that Iraq has prepared 18 initiatives to be presented at three upcoming summits: the ordinary Arab Summit, the Economic and Development Summit, and the trilateral cooperation summit between Iraq, Egypt, and Jordan. Al-Awadi told Al-Iraqiya News, as followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), "Iraq has prepared 18 initiatives to be presented at the three summits on Saturday. Today, at the ministerial meeting of Arab foreign ministers, five of them were approved, and they will be presented with the rest at the three summits on Saturday." He added that "the five Iraqi initiatives approved today addressed security cooperation, counter-terrorism, and drug trafficking," noting that "the majority of the remaining 13 initiatives are economic." "One of the Iraqi initiatives will propose the establishment of an Arab fund for the reconstruction of Gaza and Lebanon." Al-Awadi confirmed that "next Saturday will witness the holding of three summits, the first of which will be held in the morning at the leaders' level, kings, and presidents. In afternoon, the economic development summit will be held. Meanwhile, a tripartite summit titled "Tripartite Cooperation Mechanism" will be held that evening, bringing together the leaders of Iraq, Egypt, and Jordan."

The three ministers discussed ways to accelerate the implementation of joint projects in the fields of trade, industry, communications, electrical interconnection, agriculture, and transportation. These efforts aim to serve the shared interests of the three countries and strengthen their economic cooperation. During the meeting, Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to launching a new phase of constructive collaboration within the trilateral framework. He emphasized the importance of expanding this partnership to establish long-term relations that promote common interests and bolster joint Arab action. He also underlined the significance of enhancing technical cooperation with both Iraq and Jordan. The ministers also reviewed recent developments in the region, with a particular focus on the situation in the Gaza Strip. They discussed efforts to resume the ceasefire agreement, rally international support for the Arab initiative on Gaza's reconstruction and humanitarian aid delivery, and prepare for the international conference to be hosted by Egypt on early recovery and rebuilding. Moreover, the discussions shed light on the developments in Syria and Lebanon, as well as preparations for the upcoming Arab Summit in Baghdad. The three ministers agreed to maintain ongoing coordination and follow-up through regular meetings of the Tripartite Cooperation Mechanism to advance their shared goals. Abdelaaty departed for Baghdad on Wednesday, May 14, to participate in the Arab League Council's ministerial-level meeting in preparation for the upcoming Arab Summit.
