Teen dead after larceny complaint in East Hartford
EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A 17-year-old died from a gunshot wound in connection to a larceny complaint at a local diner Sunday morning in East Hartford.
An East Hartford officer responded to the Triple-A Diner at 5:00 a.m. on 1209 Main Street for a larceny complaint. At the scene, the officer witnessed four individuals entering an Uber after allegedly leaving the diner without paying their bill.
The officer followed the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Main Street and Orchard Street. That is when police say a 17-year-old male from Hartford exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.
While chasing the suspect, the officer lost sight of him and then heard a 17-year-old was found behind 1137 Main Street with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the right leg. The firearm, stolen out of Windsor, was found next to him.
The officer, along with other emergency responders, began life-saving measures, and the suspect was taken to Saint Francis Hospital, where police say he died during surgery.
As requested by the victim's family, the name of the 17-year-old will not be released at this time.
The investigation remains under investigation and anyone with information must contact Det. Sullivan at 860-528-4401 or psullivan@
