St. Cloud-area farmers markets opening for the season

Farmers market season has arrived in Minnesota, with several St. Cloud-area markets returning in the coming weeks. The markets offer customers many items to choose from, including local produce, pastries, coffee and other artisan goods produced by local businesses. The St. Cloud Area Farmers Market will return May 3 from 8 a.m. to noon, featuring around 30 vendors, selling baked goods, produce, breads and honey. Its vendors include local businesses like Triple H Acres, MN Roots Coffee and Backwards Bread Co. The market will be open Saturdays from May through October at the Lady Slipper parking lot in downtown St. Cloud. Local bakery: Backwards Bread connects to St. Cloud community through baked goods The Sauk Rapids Farmers Market will open May 15 and take place 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursdays. It will host 12 vendors this year, including Laura The Cookie Lady MN, Danique: Beauty & the Beans and Nordhausen Farms. This year's market also hosts canned goods company Get Sauced and gardening and botanical business Seed to Glass as its guest vendors. Sauk Rapids' market runs until Oct. 15 at the Sauk Rapids Coborn's parking lot. St. Joseph's first market of the season is scheduled for May 9 at the Lake Wobegon Trailhead in the Resurrection Lutheran Church parking lot. The markets will run 3 to 6 p.m. Fridays from May to October 17, except for July 4, and host over 30 vendors and artisans. This summer, the market will also celebrate National Farmers Market Week on Aug. 8 with live music, activities and recognition of those who have supported the market over its 25 years. Farmers markets: St. Cloud, Sauk Rapids farmers markets win grant funding for improvements A newcomer this year is the farmers market in Popple Creek in Mayhew Lake Township. The market will be held at the Popple Creek Wedding & Events venue, with one scheduled per month from June through October, starting with a market 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 28th. It will include vendors who will sell crafts, produce and other homemade products. Sartell's summer market opens May 5 at the Bernick's Arena parking lot at the Scheels Athletic Complex. The market offers items like salsa, grass-fed beef, eggs and breads, with all growers or producers located within 40 miles of Sartell. It is scheduled for 3 to 6 p.m. on Mondays through Oct. 13. The Cold Spring Farmers Market is also scheduled to return 3 to 6 p.m. May 7 at The Great Blue Heron's parking lot. Products available for purchase include produce, eggs, jams, cupcakes, quilts and flowers from central Minnesota vendors. The market will take place 3 to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays.
