Texas A&M Softball is Trending Over Embarrassing History

History was made Sunday night in College Station — but not the kind Texas A&M fans wanted. The No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Softball Tournament is officially out. Texas A&M was stunned by Liberty in a decisive Game 7 of the regional round, falling 6-5 in front of a stunned home crowd. Advertisement In doing so, the Aggies became the first top seed ever eliminated before the Super Regionals since the tournament's seeding format began in 2005. Liberty, on the other hand, earned its first-ever trip to the Super Regionals and did so by knocking off the tournament's biggest favorite in dramatic fashion. Just hours earlier, A&M had forced the do-or-die showdown with a win over the Flames to stave off elimination — but they couldn't complete the comeback. Softball fans and Aggies alike were quick to light up social media in the aftermath. 'Okay this is actually getting depressing now,' one fan said. Advertisement 'A&M in SEC Purgatory,' another added. 'Wow. Well, misery loves company. They obviously wanted to top the baseball team,' said another, referencing the Aggies' baseball struggles this season. 'Whoa. Unbelievable. They just can't get it done on the big stage,' one fan wrote bluntly. 'They simply cannot handle any measure of success. Scientists should study this phenomenon,' another posted. After an impressive regular season that earned them the top overall seed, the Aggies were poised to make a deep run. Texas A&M head coach Trisha Ford talks to pitcher Sydney Lessentine.© Aaron E. Liberty moves on to face the winner of Oregon and Stanford in the Super Regionals. Texas A&M, meanwhile, will have to sit with this one — a historic collapse that won't soon be forgotten. Aggie fans and media react to Texas A&M's Regional loss to Liberty in the NCAA Tournament

Aggie fans and media react to Texas A&M's Regional loss to Liberty in the NCAA Tournament The Texas A&M softball team faced a heartbreaking defeat, losing a must-win game 6-5 to Liberty. This historic loss makes them the first No. 1 seed to miss the Super Regional since the format's inception. It was a tough end for the seniors, who capped their collegiate careers in Aggieland after an impressive season leading up to the NCAA Tournament. While fans hold mixed feelings about the season, the future remains bright. Several juniors and underclassmen have taken on key roles under head coach Trisha Ford. However, defensive and pitching struggles allowed Liberty to capitalize, securing their first-ever Super Regional appearance. For the Aggies, it's back to the drawing board. With the transfer portal open, Ford faces the challenge of filling roster gaps, particularly in pitching, following the departures of Emiley Kennedy and Emily Leavitt. As Ford oversees pitching duties, adding an extra set of eyes could be beneficial, given the team's ongoing struggles in that area over the past three seasons. Despite this setback, Ford and her staff have firmly positioned Texas A&M softball on the national stage. With continued support and resources, the program has the potential to remain a contender for years to come. For now, the Aggies must regroup after their devastating home-field loss, while social media voices its opinions loud and clear. Congratulations to Coach Dot and Liberty on a hard-fought win The No. 1-seed falls for the first time in history Coach Ford will regroup and come back strong Devastating loss to end the season There were some things to criticize in the loss, but they will learn and get better This was probably the biggest upset in softball regional history Liberty is headed to their first Super Regional in program history Former Texas A&M star Tori Vidales was shocked at the outcome Heartbreaking loss Aggie fans had a tough spring, but the Softball team had several great moments this season Sunday's games were one of the best games of the regional round. One down, one to go 👍#GigEm — Texas A&M Softball (@AggieSoftball) May 18, 2025 Liberty got off to a fast start in the first Sunday meeting, taking a 6-0 lead after two innings. But an 11-1 run by the Aggies over the next four innings gave them an 11-7 edge heading into the bottom of the seventh. There, Liberty scored three runs in four at-bats to pull within one score, 11-10. With the bases loaded, Liberty senior Alyssa Henault walked up to home plate to face pitcher Kate Munnerlyn. The Texas A&M freshman hit Henault, sending Liberty redshirt junior Savanah Whatley home. Advertisement With the score even at 11, coach Trisha Ford made a pitching change, swapping Munnerlyn for freshman Sydney Lessentine. Lessentine walked into no small task. With the bases loaded and two outs, the pressure was at its peak. The count grew to 3-2, and a flyout by Liberty senior KK Madrey sent the game to extra innings, allowing Aggies fans to finally catch a breath. Texas A&M scored three runs in the top of the eighth, while holding Liberty to three straight outs in the bottom of the eighth, to keep the super regionals hopes alive. 'This team is gritty and we're not going to give up until the very last out,' Texas A&M junior Kennedy Powell said on the broadcast after the game. 'This team is a bunch of dogs. We got one more.' Powell recorded three hits, one run and four RBIs. Star hitter Mya Perez recorded three RBIs en route to breaking the program's single-season RBI record with 73. Record setting RBI No. 73! 2025 Women's College World Series odds – Who's favored to win it all?

2025 Women's College World Series odds – Who's favored to win it all? As the NCAA Softball Regional begins Saturday, all eyes are on the betting odds for the national championship in a season where any team could emerge victorious. Texas A&M has been a surprise front-runner under third-year head coach Trisha Ford. Predicted to finish fifth in the SEC, the Aggies defied expectations, finishing second just a half-game behind Oklahoma. Though a rainout against Georgia may have cost them a share of the regular-season title, Ford refuses to blame external factors, stressing the team had plenty of opportunities to secure it on their own. Despite Texas A&M's rapid rise and No. 1 national ranking, Ford was not named SEC Coach of the Year, losing to Oklahoma's Patty Gasso. However, her leadership has been recognized beyond the conference. Gasso invited her to join the U.S. Women's National Team coaching pool for 2025-28. This weekend, Texas A&M takes the field with a talented squad featuring five All-SEC team selections and three SEC All-Tournament honorees, aiming for gold at the Women's College World Series. 2025 Women's College World Series Odds – BetMGM Top 12 Favorites Here are the current betting odds for the 2025 NCAA Softball National Championship, according to BetMGM: Texas A&M (+150) Oklahoma (+200) Texas (+250) Florida (+600) Arkansas (+800) UCLA (+1000) Tennessee (+1400) LSU (+1700) South Carolina (+2000) Texas Tech (+2200) Florida State (+2500) Duke (+2500) As the postseason unfolds, all eyes are on Texas A&M and their quest for their first national championship since 1987.
