NL Title Contender Makes Roster Move On Former Yankees Pitcher
Former New York Yankees pitcher Lou Trivino's long-awaited return to the majors proved to be short-lived.
The San Francisco Giants designated Trivino, 33, for assignment on Sunday. The longtime Athletics reliever posted a 5.84 ERA and 11-5 K-BB ratio across 12.1 innings for the Giants.

Trivino allowed four home runs against 54 batters. However, the veteran righty recorded scoreless outings in four of his last five games for a 22-13 Giants team that woke up Monday only 1.5 games out of first place in the NL West.
San Francisco subsequently promoted lefty Kyle Harrison from Triple-A Sacramento.

Trivino missed the last two seasons with elbow injuries, undergoing Tommy John surgery in May 2023. Before a scoreless March 29 outing against the Cincinnati Reds, Trivino hadn't pitched in the big leagues since Oct. 22, 2022, in a Game 3 ALCS loss to the Houston Astros.
At that point, Trivino was wrapping up a stellar half-season with the Yankees. Trivino recorded a sterling 1.66 ERA over 21.2 innings with the Yankees that summer, and he then tallied four scoreless outings during the Bronx Bombers' playoff run.

A 2013 11th-round pick, Trivino owns a 3.94 ERA in 297 career innings for the Giants, Athletics, and Yankees. We'll see if the Yankees attempt bringing him back, now that he's finally healthy, or if Trivino is headed for another team's bullpen.
