Major champion ‘destroys US Open locker room' as picture of wreckage emerges and fans demand ban

A MAJOR champion was accused of destroying the US Open locker room. And fans demanded he is slapped with a ban for his outburst. 4 4 Wyndham Clark, 31, won the 2023 US Open at LA Country Club, pipping Rory McIlroy by one shot. However, aside from his super weekend in California, Clark has endured a wretched run in the majors. His next-best result was a T33 at The Open a month after his US Open victory. But from his 15 appearances, he has failed to make the cut eight times - including last week at Oakmont for the 2025 US Open. Clark carded two four-over rounds of 76 on Thursday and Friday to miss out on the weekend action - and any prize money. His score of +8 saw him finish one shot outside of the cut line after bogeying the 18th hole in his second round. And it appears his frustration boiled over behind the scenes. According to Tron Carter of the No Laying Up podcast, Clark allegedly "desecrated" the locker room at Oakmont. He wrote: "Multiple sources confirming that the Blow Pig really got after it in the Oakmont locker room. "Super classy, desecrating one of the most historic spots in golf AND on the heels of his behavior at Quail Hollow. Eagle-eyed fans spot Rory McIlroy's 'unrepeatable' magic trick in furious fit of rage at US Open "Probably time to put him in the cooler for a few months." An accompanying photo appeared to show two panels of the locker doors damaged. Furious golf supporters were quick to lambast Clark for his reported behaviour. One said: "That's a historical locker room too id ban him from ever playing there again tbh." Another replied: "This is unacceptable anywhere. He's a guest of Oakmont. You don't do this ever." A third added: "Not even close to acceptable, for a pro or amateur. He should be suspended. Imagine being a guest at a club and doing that after the round." A fourth typed: "He should be suspended. This is ridiculous. The tour and the USGA should make statements strongly condemning the club throwing, profanity, and all the other antics that have become the norm in the professional game." 'COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE' A fifth responded: "Wyndham Clark should be banned from next year's US Open. Completely unacceptable behaviour." 2010 US Open champion Graeme McDowell, though, defended Clark. He posted on X: 'This is minimal [in] regards [to] what I've seen other players do. Players you would never expect. "Oakmont will test any player's mental fortitude. Seen it in person.' At last month's PGA Championship, Clark came under fire for mashing an advertising board by launching his driver in anger - breaking his club and only narrowly avoiding a marshal. A further social media user commented: "I've long supported Wyndham Clark, I gave him the benefit of the doubt at PGA Championship when he smashed the sign. "But this is unacceptable. This is a suspension and fine at minimum." And a final person tweeted: "If I did what @Wyndham_Clark did yesterday, I would get arrested. He shouldn't get out of this with some ChatGPT apology. Should be suspended and fined." JJ Spaun was crowned champion at Oakmont on Sunday night after the 120/1 underdog was the only player to finish under par. He sunk birdies on the final two holes - including a 65-foot monster putt - to deny Robert MacIntyre in dramatic fashion. 4

Wyndham Clark tantrum reportedly behind U.S. Open locker room damage

2023 U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark missed the cut at this year's tournament, succumbing to the rough conditions of Oakmont Country Club like many others this weekend. Unlike others, Clark apparently didn't handle the loss very well. That's according to images of a couple damaged lockers in the Oakmont locker room and a report from No Laying Up's Tron Carter confirming that Clark was behind the damage. Advertisement If true, this would be the latest blow up from Clark in what's possibly becoming a pattern after he tossed his club into some signage after a bad drive at last month's PGA Championship -- something he later apologized for. Clark shot 8-over at Oakmont, bowing out Friday one stroke short of the cut. This article originally appeared on For The Win: Wyndham Clark tantrum reportedly behind U.S. Open locker room damage

U.S. Open Golfer Accused of Trashing Locker Room

The rugged conditions at Oakmont Country Club got the best of several golfers at this weekend's U.S. Open. One former U.S. Open winner, frustrated by his performance, reportedly took things too far. Wyndham Clark, who won the major two years ago at Los Angeles Country Club, is accused of trashing the locker room after missing the cut on Friday. Advertisement Clark shot eight-over for the first two rounds, missing the cut by one stroke. According to media personality "Tron Carter" of the "No Laying Up" podcast, the 31-year-old Denver native broke multiple lockers after his second round was complete. "Multiple sources confirming that [Wyndham Clark] really got after it in the Oakmont locker room," wrote Carter, whose real name is Todd Schuster. "Super classy, desecrating one of the most historic spots in golf AND on the heels of his behavior at Quail Hollow. Probably time to put him in the cooler for a few months." Carter, who used Clark's nickname "Blow Pig" in the tweet, went on to share photos of a pair of lockers that were damaged, with the screens partially detached and folding inward. If Carter/Schuster's reporting is accurate, this isn't the first time Clark's temper has gotten him in trouble. Advertisement At the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow last month, Clark issued a public apology after throwing his driver in frustration following a bad shot. "I would like to sincerely apologize for my behavior on Hole 16. As professionals, we are expected to remain professional even when frustrated and I unfortunately let my emotions get the best of me," Clark wrote. "My actions were uncalled for and completely inappropriate, making it clear that I have things I need to work on. I hold myself to a high standard, trying to always play for something bigger than myself, and yesterday I fell short of those standards. For that, I am truly sorry. I promise to be better the way I handle my frustrations on the course going forward, and hope you all can forgive me in due time." Clark, who hasn't won on the PGA Tour since his victory at the U.S. Open two years ago, has struggled at majors this year. He finished tied for 46th at the Masters and tied for 50th at the PGA Championship before missing the cut this weekend. Advertisement Last year, Clark missed the cut at three of four majors.
