Goal is to win every trophy, says PSG boss Luis Enrique

March 17 (Reuters) - Paris St Germain capped off a brilliant week with a 3-1 Ligue 1 win over rivals Olympique de Marseille at Parc des Princes on Sunday and manager Luis Enrique did not shy away from the club's ambition, saying the goal was to win everything this season. PSG took another big step towards the Ligue 1 crown after beating second-placed Marseille to extend their lead at the top to 19 points, having also knocked out six-times European champions Liverpool from the Champions League round of 16 on Tuesday. Chasing a first Champions League title, PSG have also booked a place in the semi-finals of the French Cup having won the Trophee des Champions in January. They will also be competing in the FIFA Club World Cup, which starts in June. "It's been an exceptional week for us. A classic always motivates players from both teams, and I think we put on a great show tonight," Luis Enrique told reporters. "It's difficult to get the ball to Marseille, and even more so to PSG. Each coach tried to play his cards right. It's obvious that after a game like Liverpool, we had the chance to play a classic and that kept us on our toes. "I'm very happy with my team and the support of our supporters. Our aim is to win Ligue 1, to win all the trophies, that's our hope. We're aware of the huge challenge facing us, and we're working hard every day to achieve (what we want)." PSG will next be in action at AS Saint-Etienne in Ligue 1 on March 29.

Luis Enrique signs new PSG deal as club announces four first-team contract extensions

Luis Enrique has signed a new Paris Saint-Germain contract through to 2027. The 54-year-old joined PSG in July 2023 and led the club to a domestic treble and the semi-finals of the Champions League in his first season. His previous deal had been due to expire in the summer of 2025. 'I'm very happy to continue this story with Paris Saint-Germain,' Luis Enrique said. 'I feel very comfortable here; we have all that we need in order to work in the best possible conditions. I think that the future looks very bright, and I hope to enjoy a lot more success with the club.' Advertisement Luis Enrique's deal was announced alongside contract extensions for four first team players — Achraf Hakimi, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes and Yoram Zague — and first professional deals for Ibrahim Mbaye, 17, and Naoufel El Hannach, 18. Full-backs Hakimi and Mendes and midfielder Vitinha have signed contract extensions through to 2029, while 18-year-old full-back Zague has renewed his terms through to 2028. Mbaye and El Hannach's first contracts run until 2027. 'We are delighted to announce the extension of our coach Luis Enrique together with six fantastic players who continue to build their future at Paris Saint-Germain,' said president Nasser Al-Khelaifi. 'I am particularly grateful to our coach Luis Enrique who has driven great progression and cultural change at the club in such a short time.' The French side recruited Joao Neves, Desire Doue and Willian Pacho, who are all under the age of 23, in the summer of 2024. PSG won Ligue 1 in Luis Enrique's debut season, having finished nine points ahead of runners-up Monaco, while they defeated Lyon to lift the Lyon to lift the French Cup and Toulouse to claim the Trophee des Champions.
