Jackie Baillie 'welcomes' Flamingo Land plans being recalled
In September 2024, the Yorkshire-based theme park operator, Flamingo Land Ltd, had their planning permission in principle rejected by all 14 board members of the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs Planning Authority. However, last month, the Planning and Environmental Appeals Division (DPEA) gave notice that the reporter in charge of the case would allow the appeal for the Flamingo Land resort to be granted, subject to meeting a list of 49 conditions. A caveat was also included that a binding legal agreement must be reached with Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park Authority over an ancient woodland segment of the site. READ MORE: Controversial Loch Lomond Flamingo Land plans recalled Now, plans for the development at Lomond Banks have been recalled by the Scottish Government, with Minister for Public Finance, Ivan McKee, saying the proposed development raises issues of 'national significance'. Baillie previously raised "furious objections" to the plans. The Scottish Labour deputy leader had cross-party backing for a motion set to go before the Holyrood chamber today, asking the Scottish Government to call in the application for ministerial decision before it was recalled. She insists it is "about time" the decision was looked at. Baillie said: "It's about time the Scottish Government backtracked and called this decision in for scrutiny. "It was unacceptable to allow an unelected and unaccountable civil servant to take such a vital decision to prevent the Scottish Government from getting its hands dirty. "There are matters of vital national planning policy at stake in this decision, which has also been widely condemned by the community. "It's about time the Scottish Government started listening to local people and I am glad that my motion, which enjoyed cross party backing, has forced them to do so." Organisations such as the National Trust for Scotland, the Woodland Trust, the Ramblers, and the Scottish Government environment watchdog, SEPA, also raised objections against the plans.

Controversial Loch Lomond Flamingo Land plans recalled
In September 2024, the Yorkshire-based theme park operator, Flamingo Land Ltd, had their planning permission in principle rejected by all 14 board members of the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs Planning Authority. Now, plans for the development at Lomond Banks have been recalled by Scottish Ministers reports our sister title The National. Minister for Public Finance, Ivan McKee (below), said he has recalled the plans as the proposed development raises issues of 'national significance'. He said: 'I have decided to recall the Lomond Banks appeal as the proposed development raises issues of national significance in view of its potential impact on Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. 'This means that the appeal should be determined at a national level.' The news comes after more than 50,000 people wrote to McKee in just two weeks, demanding that the Scottish Government withdraw its approval of the mega-resort planning application. Scottish Greens MSP Ross Greer said the public's opinion on the proposal, which is the most opposed in Scottish planning history with more than 155,000 individuals lodging objections, 'couldn't be clearer'. He said: 'In just two weeks the Planning Minister has heard directly from over 50,000 people calling on him to block these proposals. Public opinion couldn't be clearer and it is backed up by experts including the Government's own environment watchdog.' Organisations such as the National Trust for Scotland, the Woodland Trust, the Ramblers, and the Scottish Government environment watchdog, SEPA, also raised objections against the plans.

Flamingo Land resort approved by SNP Government as critics blast "anti-democratic outrage"
The decision by the SNP Government has sparked outrage among critics of the £40m plan. The SNP Government has been accused of an "anti-democratic outrage" after approving Flamingo Land's controversial proposals for a mega resort on the banks of Loch Lomond. A Yorkshire-based theme park operator had their planning permission in principle rejected last year by the Trossachs Planning Authority. But a report released by the Scottish Government's Planning and Environmental Appeals Division (DPEA) has given notice that the reporter in charge of the case is minded to allow their appeal. Supporters say £40m proposals could create more than 100 holiday lodges, two hotels, a waterpark, a monorail, 372 car parking spaces and shops. But critics say the report will cause irreversible damage to the local environment. Green MSP Ross Greer said: 'This is an anti-democratic outrage. I cannot believe that Flamingo Land's destructive and immensely unpopular mega-resort is being given the go-ahead by Government officials. It was the most unpopular planning application in Scottish history and will cause irreversible damage to the world-famous local environment at Loch Lomond. 'Their destructive plans were unanimously rejected by the National Park's board, opposed by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, the National Trust for Scotland, the Woodland Trust, the Park's expert planning officers and 155,000 people who joined our Save Loch Lomond campaign. 'This greedy developer would not take no for an answer and I am shocked that Government officials have put Flamingo Land's interests above the need to protect Loch Lomond. 'We are urgently considering our options for continuing this fight. I will leave no stone unturned in the campaign to save Loch Lomond.' Over 400 reasons were provided why the reporter is minded to grant the appeal.
