( — Multiple fire agencies responded to a two-acre fire near Hoke Valley on Sunday evening. According to the Sierra County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened in Eastern Sierra County after fire crews from the U.S. Forest Service, CAL FIRE, and Truckee Fire responded to a vegetation fire near Hoke Valley, just east of Stampede Reservoir. Barricaded man arrested in Arden-Arcade; deputies continue to investigate Officials said that due to the rapid and coordinated response, the fire was quickly contained. SCSO said, 'Crews have begun mop-up operations and will remain on scene to ensure full containment.' At this time, the cause of the fire is being investigated, and no injuries have been reported. Man rescued from Sierra Nevada after falling, sliding hundreds of feet

( — A 70-year-old man snowshoeing in the Sierra was rescued by a California Highway Patrol helicopter after falling more than two dozen feet down a steep ridge, according to CHP Valley Division Air Operations. The man was walking near Castle Peak when he fell around 30 feet from the ridge side, falling onto his head and then sliding several hundred more feet downhill on snow and ice. SMUD reports near daily vehicle crashes involving utility equipment Other people in the area were able to provide some aid to the man before personnel from CalStar, CHP and Truckee Fire arrived. Once on scene, CHP's Helicopter 20 (H-20) dropped in two helicopter rescue technicians from Truckee Fire. The two rescuers skied to the man and got him ready to be hoisted into the helicopter. Once onboard, the man was flown from the mountain face to a nearby landing zone. A CalStar helicopter then collected the man and flew him to the Reno Renown Medical Center.
