The Best Merino Wool T-Shirts for Every Occasion
We are talking about $80 (or more) T-shirts here, so this is valid question. I think merino T-shirts are worth the investment. They offer considerable benefits over cotton and other natural fibers, as well as synthetics. Merino offers great temperature regulation, excellent moisture wicking, and they don't smell, which means you can wear them more and don't need as many of them. Three merino T-shirts in your wardrobe will last you as many days as 10 cotton shirts, so from a financial angle it's a wash. Here's a quick rundown of some of the benefits of merino wool: Odor-resistant: One of merino wool's superpowers is that it's naturally resistant to odors. This means you can wear a merino T-shirt multiple times before needing to wash it. How many times? I'd say that depends where you are and what you're doing, but usually three to seven times. Our top pick is, after all, called the 72-hour shirt, because that's how long you can wear it before it needs a wash. Thermoregulation: Merino wool can keep you warm in cold weather and cool in warm weather. Yes, there are limits to this—no T-shirt is going to keep you cool on a hot summer day in the tropics—but merino far outshines cotton and synthetics. Moisture wicking: This is an important one for anything you're wearing while hiking or at the gym. Merino wool is excellent at moving moisture away from your skin, through the fabric, where it can evaporate quickly. This is why it makes such a good base layer. Versatility: Merino wool shirts are great for travel, hiking, backpacking, and as everyday shirts for around town. They can also be used year-round, even in the cold, as part of a good layering system. Packable: Merino wool T-shirts tend to pack up smaller than cotton and many synthetics, meaning they take up less room in your bag when traveling. Combine this with the odor resistance above and your have the ultimate travel T-shirt. The one place cotton and nylon blend T-shirts might possibly have an edge is durability. Merino wool isn't really any less durable in my experience, but it can pill, which is where the wool fibers break and tangle together in tiny knots, forming little balls on your T-shirt. Some pilling isn't a big deal, but if a T-shirt pills a lot you know it's made of very made of short wool fibers, rather than longer continuous fibers. Unfortunately, most manufacturers don't advertise the length of their spun fibers, which is where our testing comes in. I hate pilling, and I have eliminated all the T-shirts that have pilled on me, except one, which I like anyway (the pilling is not that bad).

Drake delivers rich flex by turning his basketball court into a T-shirt closet
When mere mortals have a wardrobe clean-out, we pile our clothes on the bed. Rap superstar Drake moves his closet to the indoor basketball court in his Toronto mansion. The Grammy-winning musician doesn't mind a rich flex but he raised the bar with his Instagram post showing off his T-shirt kingdom. 'Where's that one shirt though…,' he captioned the ostentatious warehouse-sized display. Whoever organised his collection did a spectacular job, neatly arranging the thousands of T-shirts on tables and racks by colour and sleeve length. 'Let me look for that shirt one sec..,' Drake commented a couple of hours after posting the photo. Fans went nuts over his wardrobe wealth. Some played Where's Wally over the collection and spotting vintage sports tees and a tie-dyed Turks and Caicos souvenir shirt probably picked up on one of his holidays at the islands. The corner of one maroon shirt prompted some Aussie fans to suggest it might the Queensland Reds jersey he sported during his tour here in February, which was abruptly cut short due to that old 'scheduling conflict' excuse. He has collected a wide range of vintage sports apparel, with shirts from the Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Clippers and Milwaukee Bucks. 'Boutta show this pic to my mom to prove to her that I'm not a hoarder,' commented rapper Russ. 'This is just overflow, show the rest,' demanded Drake's trainer Roxx. 'I bet he stares at that and says he got nothing to wear,' posted one fan. Others who zoomed in on the collection spotted the rap star perusing the racks (left hand side about three rows down from the top). It's not the first time Champagne Papi (his social media handle) has shown off his champagne lifestyle, or the NBA regulation-sized basketball court in his $150 million manor house he calls the Embassy. The mega mansion also features an indoor swimming pool, a state-of-the-art recording studio and a bed that weights one tonne and features a recessed whiskey and champagne bar in the headboard. The Hotline Bling star remains embroiled in his legal war with his label Universal, suing the world's biggest record company for defamation over their promotion of the Kendrick Lamar diss track Not Like Us.

Four genius ways to refresh your wardrobe on a budget
WARMER weather means it's time to put away the coats and jumpers, and slip into shorts and T-shirts. But if your summer wardrobe could do with an upgrade, you don't need to fork out for new outfits. Instead, make a few alterations to give old items a fresh lease of life. Here's how . . . SHORT CUTS: If you have a pair of jeans you no longer wear, you can easily turn then them into shorts to wear in warmer weather. Simply lay them out and make a mark with chalk where you want to cut. If you want a roll-over at the bottom, allow a couple of inches and add a few stitches to keep it in place. Or just snip and leave for an easy frayed look. If you have white clothing that has dulled or is stained, transform it with dye. Dylon hand dyes are £3.69 at Wilko and come in an array of different shades — just soak the clothes in warm water with salt. Tie-dye is another option to reinvent old white T-shirts you have tired of — get a kit for £3.99 from The Range. I made an extra £650 in 'free' money in a month - it's so easy, anyone can do it IT'S SEW EASY: If you're nifty with alterations, shorten the sleeves on long-sleeved dresses or tops for a summer makeover. Or take up the hem on longer frocks. Cropped trousers are bang on trend so take a few inches off the bottom of an old pair to bring them up to date and ready for higher temperatures. FRINGE BENEFIT: Grab an old T-shirt and make it festival or beach-friendly by adding a fringe at the bottom. Use a ruler to mark out a line at the bottom of the shirt with chalk, and then at 1cm intervals draw a line down to the bottom of the hem where you'll cut the fringe. Cut off the bottom hem before following the lines you have marked out. All prices on page correct at time of going to press. Deals and offers subject to availability.
