6.6 quake hits northern coast of Papua New Guinea

A 6.6 magnitude earthquake has struck off the north coast of Papua New Guinea overnight.
It had a depth of 53km, the United States Geological Survey says.

It affected the Anoram and East Sepik regions, according to

The US National Tsunami Warning Centre said there was
no tsunami threat for the US West Coast, British Columbia or Alaska
, and it did not believe there was a risk to other countries either.
In the last month Papua New Guinea has experienced four quakes of 5 magnitude or greater including one that was 5.7. Last month
a 6.9 quake
struck off the coast of the New Britain region of PNG.
