Aamir Khan rejects sequel idea for Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, director reveals why

Actor Imran Khan's debut film 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na' remains one of Bollywood's most loved romantic comedies. In a recent chat on Aamir Khan's YouTube channel Aamir Khan Talkies, Imran and the director Abbas Tyrewala talked about the film and the sequel that never got shared that soon after the movie released, he went to Aamir Khan, who produced the film, with an idea for Part 2. Imran also said that people often come up to him and demand to know when the sequel is coming. Abbas laughed and said he gets the same question every day on my Instagram DM every day. Very shortly after the film's release, I went to Aamir with an idea for the sequel - at some point, Jai and Aditi (Imran and Genelia D'Souza's characters in the film) would fight. I told him, 'Let's start the sequel at the point when Jai and Aditi are on the verge of separation. Jai will bump into Meghna (Jai's former love interest in the film) at a party, and he is drunk,'' Abbas added. Revealing Aamir's reaction, Abbas said, 'Aamir told me, 'Never refer to this movie again. I don't want to hear anything about the sequel if that's the direction you're going in.'' However, both agreed that making a sequel may not work. 'I don't know how to reboot fairytales. I haven't seen them working well.' Imran and Abbas then spoke about a reunion of the 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na' gang over coffee but rejected the idea of making a sequel," Abbas Tu Ya Jaane Na tells the story of best friends Jai and Aditi, who don't realize they're in love until they start dating other people. The film starred Imran Khan, Genelia D'Souza, Prateik Patil, Manjari Fadnis, and Ayaz Khan. It was a major box office success, earning over Rs 82 crore worldwide. Released in 2008, the film became a huge hit and continues to enjoy a loyal fan base. Over the years, fans have repeatedly called for a sequel, but now, director Abbas has revealed why that's unlikely to happen.
