Den of Thieves 3 in Development, Returning Cast & Director Announced
is a go at Lionsgate. The first Den of Thieves movie was released in 2018. It was followed by the 2025 sequel, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera. Christian Gudegast directed both films, which see Gerard Butler play Detective Nick 'Big Nick' O'Brien and O'Shea Jackson Jr. portray Donnie Wilson. Following the recent box office success of Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, Lionsgate, Tucker Tooley Entertainment, and G-BASE have announced that Den of Thieves 3 is now in active development. Gerard Butler is expected to return as Big Nick in Den of Thieves 3. He's also expected to produce the movie through his G-Base banner alongside his G-BASE banner. O'Shea Jackson Jr. is also expected to return, while Gudegest is in talks with Lionsgate to write and produce the film. Tucker Tooley Entertainment will co-produce and jointly finance Den of Thieves 3. A release date has not yet been set. Den of Thieves 2: Pantera hit theaters on January 10, 2025. It has grossed approximately $47.5 million at the worldwide box office. Speaking to ComingSoon about Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, Gudegast said, 'The long form of the story was sort of mapped out from the beginning. When researching Den 1, we came across so much material that we couldn't jam it into one movie. It's almost like we have material for several seasons of a show. Then we knew we'd sort of sparse it out over the course of several films. So, you know, we were trying to build a franchise from the very beginning based on very elaborate, fascinating heists all over the world.' Den of Thieves 2: Pantera is now available on digital, while it will arrive on 4K UHD and standard Blu-ray (with DVD/digital copies) on March 4, 2025. ‘Den of Thieves 3' in Active Development at Lionsgate
Following the box office success of 'Den of Thieves: Pantera,' Lionsgate is moving a third film in the action series starring Gerard Butler and O'Shea Jackson, Jr. into active development. Butler and Jackson are expected to return for the threequel, and Lionsgate is in talks with franchise writer-director Christian Gudegast to return to write and direct. Butler would produce through his G-BASE banner alongside partner Alan Siegel, and Tucker Tooley is also set to produce through Tucker Tooley Entertainment, which will also jointly finance the film. Through three weeks in theaters, 'Den of Thieves: Pantera' has grossed $32 million at the domestic box office, standing as Lionsgate's highest-grossing film in theaters since the start of 2024. The film was released on premium on-demand this past Tuesday. 'Den of Thieves' has joined a collection of franchises at Lionsgate that includes the 'John Wick' series, 'Now You See Me' and 'Saw.' Upcoming installments of all those franchises are on the studio's 2025 slate, with 'From the World of John Wick: Ballerina' set for release in the summer and 'Saw XI' and 'Now You See Me 3' coming in the fall. 'Den of Thieves: Pantera' is still playing in select theaters and is also available through premium on-demand. Lionsgate, Tucker Tooley Entertainment and G-BASE are moving a third film in the 'Den of Thieves' franchise into active development. 'Den of Thieves 2: Pantera' opened in the No. 1 spot at the North American box office and has grossed more than $32 million at the domestic box office to date. The film launched on PVOD on Tuesday. It is also expected that O'Shea Jackson Jr. will co-star in the third installment. Earlier this month, Jackson Jr. told Variety he was hoping for more 'Den of Thieves' in the near future. 'I'm not gonna sugarcoat it: I'm trying to Vin Diesel this thing. To quote Ryan Reynolds, I want to work with Gerard until he's 90,' he said. 'I have such a family feel with these guys. I know how much I want to do these other films, but we cannot cheapen this beautiful thing that we made. This one took six or seven years to get done. I hope the next one doesn't. In our heart of hearts, we won't make it if it's not right and if it's not the same thing that made audiences fall in love with the franchise in the first place.' Tooley will produce under his label, and Lionsgate will distribute the next chapter. Tucker Tooley Entertainment is a feature film and television finance and production company established by principals Tucker Tooley and Greg Renker. It has been a key force in shaping high-impact storytelling across both theatrical and streaming platforms, with its films grossing more than $2.6 billion at the worldwide box office. Over a 10-month window between 2024 and 2025, Tooley delivered back-to-back hits, including Netflix's No. 1 film 'The Deliverance' and Lionsgate's theatrical release 'Arthur the King' with Mark Wahlberg. Other recent projects include 'Concrete Cowboy,' which also opened at No. 1 for Netflix, and 'The United States vs Billie Holiday,' which earned an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe win for lead actress Andra Day.
