Johor princess pays visit to Housing Ministry

PUTRAJAYA: Johor princess Tunku Tun Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Sultan Ibrahim paid a royal visit to the Housing and Local Government Ministry here yesterday. The daughter of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, was welcomed by Minister Nga Kor Ming and ministry secretary- general Datuk M. Noor Azman Taib. According to a Facebook post by the ministry yesterday, during her two-hour visit, Tunku Tun Aminah had a productive discussion with Nga. 'The minister touched on several issues related to community development, the green initiative, as well as strategic cooperation for the betterment of the rakyat during the discussion session with Tunku Tun Aminah. 'He also presented the ministry's report card for last year, encompassing the ministry's main initiative and the impact of programmes for the rakyat, including the National Landscape Day 2024 on May 25 last year. The event was launched by His Majesty, King of Malaysia, and graced by Tunku Tun Aminah,' said the post. Tunku Tun Aminah also took the time to oversee several Fire and Rescue Department assets, which were displayed in the ministry's compound. 'The assets are a symbol of the department's readiness in ensuring the safety of the public,' it said. Nga also presented Tunku Tun Aminah with a souvenir from the ministry. 'The ministry is grateful for the visit and expresses its gratitude towards Tunku Tun Aminah, who was willing to spend time with KPKT officers and personnel. 'We hope this will open up more opportunities for meaningful collaborations towards developing an inclusive and prosperous community,' it said. Meanwhile, Nga said Malaysia is eyeing the presidency of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Assembly for the 2026-2029 term. He said the Cabinet has given its endorsement for the ministry to represent Malaysia at the elections in Nairobi, Kenya, on May 29. 'We hope to proudly raise the Jalur Gemilang on African soil,' Nga said during the ministry's 2024 Excellence Appreciation Ceremony yesterday. He stated earlier that the ministry has been entrusted with making all the necessary preparations to support the candidacy, Bernama reported. UN-Habitat, established under the mandate of the United Nations General Assembly, is responsible for promoting socially and environmentally sustainable urban development and ensuring adequate housing for all.
