Memorial Day events, ceremonies around central Alabama
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — People in central Alabama will have plenty of opportunities to recognize Memorial Day on Monday.
Here are three Memorial Day ceremonies to look out for:
Alabama National Cemetery
The Alabama National Cemetery will host its 17th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony at 9 a.m. The ceremony will take place at the main flag assembly area of the cemetery, and it will last about an hour. More information can be found here.
Veterans Memorial Park
The Tuscaloosa Parks and Recreation Authority will host a ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park. The ceremony will take place at 9 a.m. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be moved indoors to University Mall. American Village
Montevallo's American Village has events scheduled throughout the day. Admission to American Village will be free, with the campus opening to the public at 10 a.m. The Memorial Day service, followed by a wreath laying, will take place at 11 a.m. More events will follow. Strong to severe weather is possible throughout the day on Monday, which could affect some events.
