The cool Utah Mammoth logo has a neat hidden element in it
The cool Utah Mammoth logo has a neat hidden element in it The Mammoth are no longer extinct. Well, in the NHL, at least. The Utah Hockey Club has announced its rebranding: despite having a cool name and other possible cool monikers, they will henceforth be known as the Utah Mammoth (which we knew thanks to a leak from their YouTube channel). Solid. Yeti would have been better, but thanks to a copyright dispute, that was out. So now we have a cool new Utah Mammoth logo, which has a neat little hidden element: some mountains on the head. I like it! Here's a look at the new logo and their uniforms (they're keeping the "UTAH" branding for road games, which isn't as good): To view this content, you'll need to update your privacy settings. They're the Utah Mammoth now. (Photo by) The NHL team in Salt Lake City will be called the Utah Mammoth going forward, ending a protracted, yearlong naming process that began with the Arizona Coyotes becoming the Utah Hockey Club last year. The franchise revealed its new identity with a video on X on Wednesday. To view this content, you'll need to update your privacy settings. Of course, fans were already well aware of what name was coming. Some social-media users noticed the club's YouTube account had changed its handle to @UtahMammoth in April, and the franchise declined to confirm or deny if the leak was real. Utah Hockey Club's official YouTube page now shows UtahMammoth 🦣 — Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) April 30, 2025 With a name in place, the Mammoth can finally end a saga that went through an extraordinary amount of phases and possibilities before landing on an option that was there from Day 1. Why did it take this long for the Utah Hockey Club to find a new name? The Hockey Club nickname was instituted on an interim basis last summer, with 20 options presented for a fan vote. The possibilities were largely snow and mountain-themed, including the Mammoth, along with options such as the Swam, Fury and Hive. That list was eventually narrowed to six finalists: the incumbent Hockey Club, the Mammoth, the Yeti, the Outlaws, the Venom and the Blizzard. And then the team picked the Mammoth from that group, right? Wrong! While those six options were put up for a fan vote, those results were never revealed. Months later, it was reported the club was scrapping its choice of the Yeti due to a copyright issue with the Yeti cooler company, and so the matter was sent to a third round of voting with the options consisting of the Hockey Club, the Mammoth and a new combatant, the Wasatch. In case you weren't aware, the Wasatch is the mountain range overlooking Salt Lake City and was basically a go-around to use the team's Yeti-themed art with that specific name no longer an option. Fans hated it so much it was replaced by the Outlaws on the ballot before voting even finished. And now, we have a winner, after three rounds of voting and 21 different names put forward by the team. Utah can finally rally around the Mammoth.

'Tusks Up': Utah Hockey Club officially unveils Mammoth name, logo
What was a commonly known secret finally became official Wednesday when the Utah Hockey Club unveiled its new nickname, the Mammoth, and its logo. Last week, the Utah Mammoth name was shown on the team's official YouTube page and, before it was deleted, internet sleuths had already taken screenshots of the handle, prompting a quick deletion of the entire channel. A U.S. Patent and Trademark under the name "Utah Mammoth" had been pending since last April as well, and the team has started selling merchandise at the Delta Center. The team explained in a statement the nature of the nickname of the Mammoth, which roamed the state more than 10,000 years ago. A new Ice Age dawns. Introducing Utah Mammoth. #TusksUp — Utah Mammoth (@utahhockeyclub) May 7, 2025 "Evidence suggests mammoths charged in herds at speeds exceeding 25 miles per hour, comparable to the speeds reached by the fastest skaters in the NHL," the team said. "When it came to naming the team, we did something unprecedented – going through four rounds of community voting, including getting feedback not only on potential names but also on potential logos," Utah owners Ryan and Ashley Smith said in a statement. "The community chose the Utah Mammoth brand, and it stands as a symbol of who we are, where we came from, and the unstoppable force we're building together." Fans had a say throughout the process, though there were some complications. The original list of 20 names was whittled down to six in the first vote, which drew 520,000 participants. Then Utah Blizzard, Utah HC (Hockey Club), Utah Mammoth, Utah Outlaws, Utah Venom and Utah Yeti were put up for another vote. Yeti was ruled out in January because the team couldn't reach a coexistence agreement with YETI coolers. The final vote was in person at the Delta Center during a four-game homestand. Utah Hockey Club, Mammoth and Wasatch were the choices, though Wasatch was dropped for Outlaws after the first night of voting. The team logo features the team's color scheme, Rock Black, Salt White and Mountain Blue, and the head of a Mammoth with a curved tusk, with the Wasatch Mountain Range at the top of the logo. A Utah-shaped silhouette and "M" grace the left side of the logo. The tusks are curved up to form a "U." "Tusks Up" will be the team's rallying cry. The team will have the new Mammoth logo on its home jerseys and the word Utah on road jerseys. The Utah Hockey Club just completed its first season based in Salt Lake City after relocating from Phoenix as the Arizona Coyotes. The team finished with a 38-31-13 record this year, good for sixth in the Central Division of the Western Conference. Utah Hockey Club reveals permanent name of the NHL team in Salt Lake City
Article content A new Ice Age dawns. Introducing Utah Mammoth. #TusksUp — Utah Mammoth (@utahhockeyclub) May 7, 2025 The Mammoth are maintaining the same black, light blue and white color scheme and the road jerseys with UTAH diagonally down the front. The logo includes a nod to the mountains, the shape of the state and a curved tusk that forms a 'U.' Mammoth fossils have been found throughout Utah, including a complete skeleton in Huntington Canyon in 1988. Utah has an exciting summer ahead holding the fourth pick in the draft, the first phase of arena renovations taking place and more than $20 million in salary cap space for general manager Bill Armstrong to make a splash in free agency and trades. With young talent like captain Clayton Keller, budding star forward Logan Cooley, two-time Stanley Cup champion Mikhail Sergachev and emerging goaltender Karel Vejmelka, the Mammoth could contend for a playoff spot as soon as next season. The rebranding comes less than 13 months since Smith Entertainment group bought the team previously known as the Arizona Coyotes from former owner Alex Meruelo and moved it to Salt Lake City. The Coyotes played in the Phoenix area since 1996 after moving there from Winnipeg, where the team was the original Jets.
