Which Jacksonville Jaguars' rookie, not named Travis Hunter, is player to watch in 2025?
Which Jacksonville Jaguars' rookie, not named Travis Hunter, is player to watch in 2025? Of the Jacksonville Jaguars' draft picks, which rookie, not named Travis Hunter, will you be watching most closely this season? Of the Jacksonville Jaguars' nine draft picks, which one will you be watching most closely during the 2025 NFL season? Pro Football Focus recently answered this question for all 32 teams, and not surprisingly, they selected Travis Hunter, which I'm guessing is going to be the answer for most. How can you not want to see how Hunter and the team navigates him playing on both sides of the ball? "Hunter is one of the most intriguing rookies in NFL history," wrote PFF. "Last year's Heisman Trophy winner is the greatest two-way player in college football history, having earned an 89.0 PFF receiving grade and a 90.3 PFF coverage grade. He projects as more of a receiver for the Jaguars right now but should still see a healthy number of snaps at cornerback in more of a rotational role." With Hunter being the obvious choice here, I'm going to take it in a bit of a different direction. So which rookie, outside of Hunter, am I most intrigued by? Running back Bhayshul Tuten, specifically, how big of a role can he play in 2025? How the playing time shakes out in the running back room this season remains to be seen. Returning from last year's team are Travis Etienne and Tank Bigsby, although Etienne struggled with efficiency, averaging 3.7 yards per rush in 2024, while Bigsby put the ball on the ground. Under the Jaguars' new leadership structure, as a draft pick, Tuten is 'their guy.' But like any young player, there will be a learning curve for Tuen to navigate as he adjusts to the NFL level and a new, demanding offensive scheme. Early on in OTAs, Tuten has already put the ball on the ground, which was an issue he dealt with during his college career. However, what he brings to the Jaguars' offense is speed, running a 4.32-second 40 during the pre-draft process--the fastest time of any running back at the NFL combine--and big-play ability. Last season, Tuten averaged 6.3 yards per rush and was difficult to bring down, ranking 13th in average yards after contact and 16th in missed tackles forced, per PFF. Having a strong running game to lean on is going to be important to the overall success of the Jaguars' offense. I think we can all expect Tuten to have a role this season, but how big of one may still have to be determined. "I thought last week, as we were kind of getting more into the scheme, he was getting a little bit more comfortable," Coen said of Tuten last week. "I thought he started to get a little bit more into it, had a couple better runs of feeling the zone and being able to stick his foot in the ground and accelerate. "So, good learning experience. You know, first time in a live setting in the National Football League, on your first carry, hopefully you learn something from that moment."

Jaguars Bhayshul Tuten RB to watch, says insider; what does it mean for Etienne, Bigsby?
After speaking with executives, scouts, and coaches, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler emptied his post-NFL draft notebook, and included was a note that Jacksonville Jaguars' fourth-round pick, running back Bhayshul Tuten, is a name to watch. "Watch for fourth-round running back Bhayshul Tuten to make an impact," Fowler wrote. "I've talked to multiple people in the league who believe the new regime is not so high on Travis Etienne Jr., and Tank Bigsby has a fumbling issue." Advertisement After rushing for almost 1,300 yards at 5.2 yards per attempt as a rookie, Etienne has averaged just 3.7 yards per rush over the last two seasons, and recorded just 558 rushing yards in 2024--although it's not as if the offensive line play has been stellar either. With Bigbsy, while he provided some big play ability last season, as Fowler notes, he has five fumbles over the last two years as well. Tuten, meanwhile, is someone that the Jaguars very much coveted in the draft, and GM James Gladstone mentioned that after Tuten ran a 4.32-second 40 at the NFL combine, the Jaguars wouldn't have guessed that he was going to be available on Day 3. "We were jacked to be able to be in that position to prioritize him (Tuten) because at the end of the day we want to level up the competition across the entirety of the roster, and running back is a spot that we're going to lean on," Gladstone said via Jaguars on SI. Advertisement With that 4.32 speed, Tuten was a big play threat at the college level. During this most recent season, he rushed for 1,150 yards and averaged a whopping 6.3 yards per rush. Among all running backs, Tuten's 6.3 yards per rush ranked 20th. He was also 15th in missed tackles forced, 15th in rushes of 10-plus yards, and 10th in rushes of 15 or more yards, according to PFF. "If you look at [Bhayshul] Tuten with the ability to strike from a distance. He can get to the second or third level and score from anywhere on the field," Liam Coen said. With the addition of Tuten, as well as LeQuint Allen in the draft, the Jaguars' running back room has become a bit crowded. Not that a team can't roster four running backs on their 53-man, but that is generally outside of the norm across the NFL. Advertisement While naturally, the focus on the outside is on Trevor Lawrence and the passing game, the running backs are going to play a key role in getting that element of the offense back on track. Having a strong running game to lean on keeps an offense ahead of the sticks and out of predictable passing situations, which can then open up opportunities through the air. And looking at the Tampa Bay offense last season under Coen, the running backs were also key contributors in the passing game. Then, from a schematic standpoint within Coen's offense, the running and passing game concepts go hand-in-hand and build off of each other, which can help add some unpredictability to an offense and keep defenses off balance. "As Liam can probably allude to, it's so rarely just a one-person spot," Gladstone said of the running back position. "It's going to take a collective effort, just like the draft did. We look forward to the group as a whole in addition to LeQuint [Allen, Jr.] coming in and making this thing as rounded as it possibly can be.' Advertisement So for all those reasons, it's easy to see why the Jaguars invested in the running back position in the draft and the offensive line on numerous occasions throughout the offseason. Jacksonville Jaguars' biggest remaining offseason priority with OTAs underway
With OTAs underway for the Jacksonville Jaguars, what is the team's biggest remaining priority that they have to sort out? Kevin Patra of recently answered this question for all 32 NFL teams. When it came to the Jaguars, he selected, figuring things out at the running back position. Advertisement Last year in Tampa, Liam Coen helped turn another fourth-round pick, Bucky Irving, into one of the best backs in the NFL," wrote Patra. "Could Tuten get that same treatment in Jacksonville? Will Etienne keep the starting gig, and if so, can he hold it? Will it be a true committee?" This is going to be one of the more intriguing positional battles that takes place this summer. I would guess that all three will have some sort of role this season, but how the playing time shakes out remains to be seen. Under the new leadership structure in Jacksonville, Tuten is clearly 'their guy.' With that said, he's had fumbling issues during his time in college, losing the ball nine times over his final two years, and in the Jaguars' first OTA practice, Tuten fumbled. However, as Coen would note, he is showing progress as he gets more reps and becomes more comfortable with the new system. Advertisement 'I think you put the ball on the ground today, that's kind of stands out,' Coen said of Tuten last week. 'But I thought last week, as we were kind of getting more into the scheme, he was getting a little bit more comfortable. I thought he started to get a little bit more into it, had a couple better runs of feeling the zone and being able to stick his foot in the ground and accelerate. "So, good learning experience. You know, first time in a live setting in the National Football League, on your first carry, hopefully you learn something from that moment." Etienne, meanwhile, rushed for only 558 yards last season at 3.7 yards per attempt after eclipsing 1,000 yards in each of his first two seasons. It was also reported by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler that he's talked to multiple people around the NFL who believe that the new Jaguars' regime "is not so high" on Etienne. Bigsby flashed some big-play potential in 2024, but he also put the ball on the ground as well. Advertisement Regardless of how many carries each back gets, a reshaped offensive line unit--with six offseason additions made between free agency and the NFL draft--should hopefully help get more out of the Jaguars' running game. Having a strong running game to lean on will do wonders for the passing game, as it will help keep Trevor Lawrence ahead of the sticks and out of predictable passing situations. Now, if I were making the selection for the biggest remaining priority, I would have selected figuring out what the starting offensive line combination is going to be. With a number of new players and added versatility, the Jaguars can create a lot of competition this summer. Consistent success for the offense begins with the play up front. Jacksonville Jaguars' biggest remaining offseason priority with OTAs underway

Who leads Jacksonville Jaguars in rushing in 2025? ESPN makes its projection
Who leads Jacksonville Jaguars in rushing in 2025? ESPN makes its projection Which of the Jacksonville Jaguars' running backs will lead the team in rushing? ESPN makes its projection. ESPN has released its 2025 projections, including rushing totals for the Jacksonville Jaguars' running backs. Mike Clay puts together these win probabilities and stat projections every offseason for each NFL team. When it comes to the running back production for the Jaguars this season, Clay projects a relatively even split. Travis Etienne finishes the season with 516 rushing yards and three touchdowns, while averaging 4.1 yards per rush. Tank Bigsby leads the way with 671 yards and five rushing touchdowns at 4.4 yards per attempt. Then, rookie Bhayshul Tuten totals 363 yards with two touchdowns at 4.3 yards per rush. There are unknowns around what this running back rotation will look like this season. Tuten is one of James Gladstone and Liam Coen's 'guys' while Etienne and Bigsby were acquired by former GM Trent Baalke. Bigsby would rush for 766 yards in 2024 but had three fumbles. Etienne, meanwhile, saw his production dip last year, rushing for just 558 yards at 3.7 yards per rush. Following the NFL draft, Jeremy Fowler would report that he's talked to multiple people around the NFL who believe that the new Jaguars' regime "is not so high" on Etienne. However, even if Tuten is the favorite internally, there is still going to be a learning curve that he will have to navigate. With a new offense being implemented, all three backs are starting over in that regard, but there is something to be said for the experience that Etienne and Bigsby have, both on and off the field, at the NFL level. In the Jaguars' first OTA practice this past Monday, Tuten did put the ball on the ground, an issue he faced in college with nine fumbles over the previous two seasons. But Coen also sees a player who is getting more comfortable with the new scheme and speed of the NFL game. 'I think you put the ball on the ground today, that's kind of stands out,' Coen said of Tuten. 'But I thought last week, as we were kind of getting more into the scheme, he was getting a little bit more comfortable. I thought he started to get a little bit more into it, had a couple better runs of feeling the zone and being able to stick his foot in the ground and accelerate. "So, good learning experience. You know, first time in a live setting in the National Football League, on your first carry, hopefully you learn something from that moment. As we saw last season with the Tampa Bay offense under Coen, the running back position is going to play a vital role in the success that the Jaguars' offense has in 2025. A strong running game will keep the offense ahead of the sticks and out of predictable down-and-distance situations, which can open up opportunities in the passing game. We also saw the Bucs' backs play a hefty role as pass-catching targets. To help facilitate this, GM James Gladstone has heavily reshaped the offensive line this offseason as well. Until we get further into training camp and perhaps even into the regular season, at this time, I tend to agree with Clay's projections in that we are going to see all three of these backs utilized somewhat regularly. Or at least that will be the case until someone emerges. "I think all together, that room, that running back room, has done a nice job in terms of the competition, the acceleration, and the teaching for some of those young guys, and also the veterans doing a nice job of trying to help those guys out as well," Coen added.
