Abhiwadan Shewalkar Festival drawing huge crowd
1 2 Nagpur: The Abhiwadan Shewalkar Festival , organised by Shri Siddhivinayak Seva Trust , is drawing crowds at Laxmi Nagar ground from Thursday. The three-day festival, a tribute to the memory of the esteemed Ram Shewalkar, will conclude today with a musical event. On Thursday, the festival opened with the poignant one-act play 'Tya Tighi'. This performance movingly depicted the lives of the wives of freedom fighter VD Savarkar and his brothers, highlighting their sacrifices and unwavering support during India's struggle for independence. Aparna Chothe from Pune took on the roles of Yamuna, Sharada, and Yesuvahini, delivering a powerful solo performance. Chothe also conceived, wrote, designed the costumes, directed, and presented the play. The music was composed by Ajit Yashwant, and the lighting was designed by Sanket Parkhe. The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of chief information commissioner Rahul Pande. Mategaonkar spoke about the trust's various initiatives, including cultural programmes, the Deendayal Thali, and the rehabilitation of widows during the pandemic. Rahul Pande lauded the festival's tribute to Nanasaheb Shewalkar, emphasising his inspiring personality and the importance of passing his legacy on to future generations. The second day of the festival featured a lecture by renowned ayurveda expert and speaker, Dr Parikshit Shevde. Dr Shevde's lecture, focused on the life and legacy of 'Dharmaveer' Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. The Abhiwadan Shewalkar Festival will conclude on Saturday with a much-anticipated musical event. Acclaimed singer Priyanka Barve will enchant the audience with a repertoire of popular Marathi and Hindi songs. Entry is free for all.

Three-day cultural fest to pay homage to literary icon Shewalkar from May 1
Nagpur: The city is set to be enriched with a three-day festival, 'Abhiwadan Shewalkar,' organised by the Shri Siddhivinayak Seva Trust from May 1 to 3. This significant event, offering a vibrant tapestry of drama, insightful lectures, and captivating music concerts, marks the first major public initiative organised by MLC Sandip Joshi after he was elected as member of the Legislative Council last month. The festival is a heartfelt tribute to the revered icon of Marathi literature, Ram Shewalkar , whose death anniversary falls on May 3. Sandip Joshi's Shri Siddhivinayak Seva Trust has curated a programme that promises to resonate deeply with the cultural ethos of the region. The festivities will commence on May 1, at the Volleyball Ground, Aath Rasta Chowk, Laxmi Nagar, at 6.30pm. The opening act will be the compelling monologue play 'Tya Tighi' presented by Abhivyakt, Pune. This one-act play narrates the inspiring tales of the courageous women from the Savarkar family, who stood steadfastly behind their husbands in their patriotic endeavours during India's freedom struggle. The second day, May 2, will feature a thought-provoking lecture by renowned Ayurveda expert and orator, Dr Parikshit Sachchidanand Shevde. He will delve into the life and legacy of the 'Dharmaveer' Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. On May 3, a melodious concert by the acclaimed singer Priyanka Barve will be organised. All events will be open to the public sans entry fee.
