Bears fall short of Sycamores on Senior Day

SPRINGFIELD–Playing for the final time on your home field is a bittersweet feeling, for every athlete. However, that's part of life, but it doesn't make it any easier to acknowledge or accept. The great thing about Senior Day, though, is the opportunity for fans, players, and coaches to celebrate all the work the graduating athletes have put in to the program. Sunday, the Missouri State baseball team honored four players for their time and contribution to the team: Shortstop Tyler Epstein, second baseman Nick Rodriguez, infielder Dylan Robertson, and pitcher Jackson Holmes. Each player was escorted by their family and greeted with a hug by Head Coach Joey Hawkins. They also received a printed picture of themselves as a keepsake and momento of their time in maroon and white. Unfortunately, the visiting Indiana State Sycamores did not follow the fairytale scipt and ended up spoiling the celebration, by defeating the Bears, 7-6. Despite 3 rbi from Jake McCutcheon and a 2-run homer by Epstein, MSU wasn't able to beat ISU and missed out on the chance to sweep their weekend series. However, even with Sunday's loss, the Bears still lead the Missouri Valley Conference by a single game against Murray State. Which means, both teams could share the regular season conference title crown, or one of them could claim it outright. Both teams will rest up then play a 3-game series beginning Thursday, May 15. UCF Knights blow out Bears 13-2

SPRINGFIELD, Mo–The Missouri State Bears were playing head over heels Tuesday night at Hammons Field. In town for the last midweek game of the season, the Central Florida Knights. UCF plays in the Big 12 these days, and is in the middle of a road trip. The Knights were at Oklahoma State last weekend and will be at Texas Tech this weekend. In our Bear Nation update, Missouri State had ducks on the pond in the bottom of the first. Literally, a duck interrupting play in the first. The Bears had the bases loaded, but Tyler Epstein grounds into the force at second to end the inning. MoState had Curry Sutherland on the hill, here he strikes out Antonio Jimenez swinging. Then in the third, the foul ball toward the Knight's dugout, and Logan Fyffe goes over the rail and into the dugout, he's o-k. Didn't matter because Sutherland would get out of the inning by striking out Mateo Gray. Sutherland went three innings of one hit ball with three strikeouts. Missouri State strikes in the bottom of the third, Epstein gets his revenge, the single to center scores Taeg Gollert and it's 1-0 Bears. But the rest of the game belonged to Central Florida, the Knights go onto win 13-2. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. UIC Flames burn the Bears 9-6

CHICAGO–Missouri State is in Chicago this weekend. The first place Bears at Illinois-Chicago to face the Flames. Joey Hawkins Bears own a 10-2 Valley mark and a one game lead on Illinois State in the standings. In our Bear Nation report, Missouri State is 14-5 all time against the Flames. And it was 1-0 Flames in the second when Tyler Epstein muscles up and takes this deep to left, a solo shot it's 1-1. But in the bottom of the second, A.J. Taylor answers with a shot to left, and Chicago was back on top 2-1. Stayed that way until the fourth, when Thomas Curry takes this deep to left center, it's a two run homer, and it's 4-1 Flames. The next batter is Colin Husko, and he takes this deep to right center, it's gone, back to back jacks to make it 5-1. And Illinois-Chicago beats the Bears 9-6. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
