Primary school football finals bring shared trophies and success
The Isle of Wight primary school football finals stirred excitement with closely contested battles and shared trophies.
The finals, played earlier this half-term at Cowes Enterprise College, featured fierce competition in both boys' and girls' leagues.
Ryde School secured a 1-0 victory against The Bay CE Primary, while the match between Newchurch and Shalfleet ended in a goalless tie, resulting in shared honours.
Haylands Primary suffered a loss as Newport CE Primary won 3-1, thanks to Newport's Zac Rayner's two second-half goals.
Newport U-9 Boys Football Team (Image: Bembridge Church of England Primary School) The U-11 Girls League final saw The Bay edge past Carisbrooke with a 3-1 victory, including a hat trick by Neve Miller.
Queensgate completed the league and cup double in the U-11 Boys League final, courtesy of Denys Yershov.
Bembridge CE Primary outplayed Gatten & Lake Primary with a solitary goal from Edward O'Neil in the U-11 Boys Rural League final.
Separately, Haylands Primary School's U-11 boys' football team participated in the Pokémon Primary Schools' Cup National Finals in the Midlands, finishing fifth nationally.
Joe McCormack and Jamie Collings, the Isle of Wight Schools FA secretary and chairman respectively, commended all schools, players, and teachers for their efforts in the football finals.
