It's never a good sign when a national team loses to a team of players about half their age. Unfortunately, that was the case in a recent friendly between a women's national team and a teenage team.

On Wednesday, the Switzerland women's national team played the Under-15 boys team representing FC Luzern. Switzerland are the No. 23 ranked team in the world while Luzern's team was comprised of boys mostly of age 14 and under.
The boys dominated. Luzern came away with a dominating 7-1 win.
What's more distressing is that the women's team didn't even publicize the results of the game, suggesting that the team might be trying to avoid some embarrassment. They're set to play in the Women's European Championship in a few days.
If they're trying to hide the embarrassment though, they've failed. Fans on social media have been mocking the team, and women's soccer players in general, for sustaining such a loss to players significantly younger than them.

"No surprise here. This just proves why men shouldn't be allowed in women's sports, plain and simple," one user remarked.
"The U15 boys should get the same amount of money as the ladies pls," another mocked.
"Only 7? They went easy on them," a third declared.
"This is so very dissapointing to did these boys allow themselves to concede a goal?!"
"I think we should actually test which age group they could outperform, I'm genuinely curious. Could even kids under 12 defeat them? A 7–1 score is a massive difference, and I wonder where the cutoff is. 11 years old? 10? This should honestly be tested for the sake of humanity…"

(Photo by Rich Graessle/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images)It's commonly asserted that matchups between women's teams and men's youth teams like this are more for conditioning than any competitive needs. And in either event, publishing the outcome won't do the women's teams any good.

If they beat down a youth team, then they would be called out for beating up on kids. If they lose, they get mocked for losing - like so.
But in an age where the "battle of the sexes" has become a political issue and one in which results are all that matter, it's simply not a good look for Switzerland's national team.
