England vs Germany - U21 Euros final: Live score, team news and updates as Three Lions look to secure second successive title
'Back to back, like I'm Jordan '96, '97' Hip-hop lovers will know the song that these lyrics are from, I am almost certain of it. Yep, it's from Drake's 2015 track 'Back to Back', funnily enough. This is a song that England's Young Lions should be blasting from their dressing room as they attempt to win the European U21 Championships for the second time on the bounce. I can see it now, Harvey Elliott jumping up and down to pump himself up as Drake belts 'Yeah, I'm going back to back'. That's sure to fire him and the rest of the squad up, I imagine. I mean, they are going to have to be at their very best if they are to win this competition again, as they face a Germany side that beat them in the group stage. What a time it would be to get revenge on the big stage. I will never tire of seeing England in a Euros final, even if it seems to be happening every single year. This is going to be one hell of a night, whatever happens. Strap yourselves in and enjoy the show.

Aston Villa make contact with Real Betis over deal for Spain U-21 winger Jesus Rodriguez - who has also attracted interest from Chelsea
Aston Villa have made contact with Real Betis over a deal for winger Jesus Rodriguez who has attracted attention from Chelsea. Unai Emery is looking to improve his options out wide this summer and Villa have registered their interest in Rodriguez, the promising 19-year-old. Rodriguez is currently on international duty with Spain at the U-21 European Championships and comes into the tournament off the back of his breakout season. He scored three goals in his 32 senior appearances across all competitions during the last campaign, and he is a product of Betis' youth system. A winger who predominantly plays on the left, Rodriguez was brought on as a second-half substitute in Betis' Conference League final defeat to Chelsea. Villa must balance their books before the Profit and Sustainability Rules deadline on June 30 and may therefore have to offload players. However, the club are also working on incomings and Rodriguez is a potential target. Villa recently missed out on the signing of Rosenborg midfielder Sverre Nypan after he agreed to join Manchester City in a deal worth £12.5million. Emery may be braced to lose several of his senior first-teamers. Chelsea and Arsenal admire Morgan Rogers, but it would take a sizeable bid for Villa to consider selling.

James McAtee snubs Club World Cup to play for England at the Under-21 Euros - as the midfielder edges towards Man City exit
James McAtee has turned down the chance to play for Manchester City at the Club World Cup in order to represent England at the European U-21 Championships in Slovakia. The 22-year old was given the choice by City and believes he will gain greater game time with Lee Carsley 's squad. City have lost Kevin de Bruyne and left out Jack Grealish but have still agreed a deal for Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan and hope to add France international Rayan Cherki from Lyon by Tuesday. With competition for City first team places in the USA expected to be fierce, McAtee wants the platform to play full games for England U-21s where he is a key figure in Carsley's plans. McAtee's decision indicates his future lies away from City this summer and he is not short of admirers. Bundesliga teams who were keen to sign him in January remain in the frame this window. Bayer Leverkusen, who want a replacement for Liverpool-bound Florian Wirtz, Stuttgart, Eintracht Frankfurt, Red Bull Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund, who are signing Sunderland's Jobe Bellingham, have all expressed varying degrees of interest. AC Milan, having sold Reijnders, admire McAtee while in England, West Ham, Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth, Wolves, Everton, Leeds United, Manchester United, Fulham and Spurs have asked to be kept informed of developments. McAtee returned to the Etihad last summer following a bright loan spell at Sheffield United the previous season. The creative midfielder was a part of Pep Guardiola's squad for the 2024–25 campaign and eventually racked up 27 appearances across five competitions, making eight starts and scoring seven goals. England U21s, who will be without Chelsea's Liam Delap, open their tournament against Czechia next Thursday, June 12. They then face Slovenia and old foes Germany.

Jarrad Branthwaite is a major doubt for England Euro U21s' defence after picking up hamstring injury in Everton's Goodison Park farewell
Jarrad Branthwaite's participation at the European Under 21 Championships is in doubt after he injured his hamstring playing in Everton 's final game at Goodison Park on Sunday. The stylish centre back limped off in the 74th minute of Everton's 2-0 win over Southampton clutching the back of his thigh and while, tests are continuing, is considered a doubt for England as they head to the tournament in Slovakia next month. England U21s coach Lee Carsley was expected to draft in 22-year old Branthwaite after another impressive season at the heart of Everton's back line. The defender will miss Everton's last league game away to Newcastle United, joining teammate James Tarkowski on the sidelines after he had surgery on a hamstring injury also. England U21s open their tournament on June 12 against Czechia before facing Slovenia then old foes Germany. Branthwaite is a player senior manager Thomas Tuchel is also keeping a close eye on. The German spoke to the centre back before omitting him from his inaugural full England squad and underlined the importance of maintaining his progress and upward career path. Everton rejected bids from Manchester United last season for Branthwaite and are keen to tie him down to a new contract with manager David Moyes wanting to build a young squad that can push for Europe next season. However, Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool and Bayern Munich are all maintaining a watching brief as they look to bolster their defences this summer. Everton have valued Branthwaite at £70million which could yet act as a deterrent for those clubs who also considering cheaper options such as Jorrel Hato of Ajax, Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi and Jonathan Tah who is free and expected to sign for Bayern Munich. Everton want to start rebuilding a squad themselves soon with the likes of Abdoulaye Doucoure expected to depart and Ashley Young among those confirmed to go. Moyes is keen to add at least two new defenders, budget permitting, as well as a striker, winger and two midfielders.
