U92 kicks off annual ‘Pledge Your Love to the Moose' drive

MORGANTOWN, (WBOY) — U92, West Virginia University's renowned college radio station, kicked off its annual 'Pledge Your Love to the Moose' drive Thursday, which will run for 36 hours and aims to raise funds for new equipment, expanded sports coverage and studio upgrades, all while providing WVU students with hands-on broadcasting experience. Last year, U92 exceeded its $5,000 donation goal, and is aiming even higher this year. The funds raised will directly contribute to supporting the next generation of broadcasters, engineers, and media professionals. Since 1982, U92 has been on the air, training WVU students in various aspects of media, from radio broadcasting to podcasting and beyond. The station serves as a platform for students to explore their interests, build friendships, and develop the skills they need for successful careers in media. 'Students really find their niche here at WVU. They build friendships, get professional development, and learn from their mistakes. By the time they're ready to enter the workforce, they're fully prepared,' Director of Student Media Madison Cook said. Morgantown students awarded $1,500 for NASA challenge experiment 'This was my first media-based job. It helped me build connections with people. My first professor was a U92 alum, so I had an immediate connection. Having these extracurricular experiences made a huge difference in preparing me for the professional world,' U92 operations director Harley Cochran added. To make this year's pledge drive even more exciting, U92 will host a special concert on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m., followed by a dating show on Friday at 10 p.m. as part of WVU's 'Up All Night' programming. Both events will be available for listeners on 91.7 FM. Listeners are encouraged to tune in, enjoy the special programming, and donate online at Local businesses are also invited to sponsor the event, with special perks including on-air mentions and additional exposure. The funds raised during this year's pledge drive will help keep U92 independent and ensure that WVU students continue to have access to the resources and support they need to succeed in the competitive world of broadcasting and media.
