ADFD and ICBA Sign Partnership Agreement to Launch Region's First Soil Museum Guide at 'Make it in the Emirates'
In a landmark move to advance sustainability and scientific education across the region, Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) and the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) have signed a sponsorship agreement to develop the Middle East and North Africa's first comprehensive guide for establishing and operating soil museums. The announcement was made during the fourth edition of 'Make it in the Emirates,' reinforcing the UAE's role as a global hub for innovation, sustainability, and science-based policy. Designed to promote soil conservation and responsible resource management in arid environments, the guide will serve as a blueprint for institutions across the region. Backed by ADFD funding, the guide will be transformed into a practical training and capacity-building programme featuring technical workshops and scientific mentoring. ICBA will lead the technical delivery, drawing on its expertise in sustainable agriculture and its success in launching and operating the Emirates Soil Museum. Speaking on the occasion, His Excellency Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of ADFD, said: 'This initiative reflects our unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability and knowledge partnerships. We believe science-backed solutions like this museum guide can shape regional resilience and inform effective policies for generations to come.' Dr. Tarifa Alzaabi, Director General of ICBA, added: 'We are proud to continue our partnership with ADFD to take the Emirates Soil Museum's impact even further. This guide will be a scalable tool for institutions across the region—advancing environmental awareness, building scientific capacity, and supporting the Sustainable Development Goals. The Emirates Soil Museum was made in the UAE, and today it begins its journey to the world.' The agreement also outlines the organization of an international scientific symposium on 5 December 2025 to coincide with World Soil Day, with the participation of over 200 experts, researchers, and decision-makers from around the world to discuss soil, salinity, and climate change issues in arid regions. Established in December 2016 with support from ADFD, Emirates Soil Museum is the first specialized soil museum in the region. Located at ICBA's headquarters in Dubai, the museum aims to raise awareness about the role of soil in the environment, agriculture, and food security, while showcasing the diversity of soil types in the UAE. Since its launch, the museum has welcomed more than 13,500 visitors from various sectors of society and has become a reference center for environmental awareness and non-traditional education. This partnership between ADFD and ICBA reflects a shared commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals and positioning the UAE as a regional hub for environmental knowledge and scientific innovation, in line with 'UAE Vision 2030' and the 'UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategy.'

UAE megaprojects 2025: 50 massive developments set to transform the nation
The UAE is undergoing significant change with a series of large-scale projects set to alter the nation's landscape. With a long-term strategy in place, the country is working towards a future shaped by new developments. From major structures to urban planning initiatives, these projects will influence the UAE's economy, society, and culture as it aims to be among the top three global destinations for living and working. Here are some of UAE's upcoming projects planned for the next decade: 1. Etihad Rail Etihad Rail is a high-speed train linking Abu Dhabi and Dubai, which will operate at speeds of up to 350 km/h, allowing travel between Abu Dhabi and Dubai in 30 minutes. In 2022, Etihad Rail unveiled a prototype of a passenger train during the UAE's 51 st National Day celebrations on December 2. The project aligns with the UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategy and aims to enhance connectivity, economic growth, and infrastructure development. It is expected to contribute AED145 billion ($39.4 billion) to the UAE's GDP over the next 50 years. By 2030, annual passenger numbers would exceed 36.5 million, Etihad Rail said in a December 2021 statement. The project has reached key development stages, including the issuance of tenders and approval of network designs. Recently, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, and Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai reviewed the UAE's first passenger train fleet, which will operate at speeds of up to 200 km/h. The passenger train will complement the high-speed train, connecting urban and regional routes across the UAE. The unveiling of the first four-passenger rail stations were also announced. Located in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah, these stations will integrate with metro and bus lines. Facilities will include business-class lounges, retail outlets, and family amenities. The stations' designs are inspired by Emirati heritage and are planned to support the UAE's transport infrastructure. 2. Al Maktoum International Airport expansion In April 2024, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, reviewed the strategic plan of the Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects and approved the designs for the new passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport. The terminal, with a construction cost of AED 128 billion ($34.8 billion), will enable the airport to handle up to 260 million passengers annually when fully operational. The approval was given during Sheikh Mohammed's visit to Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects, where he was accompanied by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance. Sheikh Mohammed stated that Al Maktoum International Airport will have the world's largest capacity, covering five times the size of Dubai International Airport. All operations at Dubai International Airport will be transferred to the new facility in the coming years. The airport will include 400 aircraft gates and five parallel runways, with new aviation technologies to be implemented. As part of the development, an entire city will be built around the airport in Dubai South, with housing for a million people, Sheikh Mohammed said in an official statement, adding that the area will host companies in the logistics and air transport sectors. Sheikh Mohammed further stated that the project is being developed to ensure continued economic growth. The master plan for the new airport, will cover 70 square kilometres. The facility will have a capacity of 260 million passengers and handle 12 million tonnes of cargo annually. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports, and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group announced the beginning of the design and construction process for the new airport in Jebel Ali. The first phase is expected to be completed within ten years and will accommodate 150 million passengers annually. The airport, when complete, will include five parallel runways with quadruple independent operation, west and east processing terminals, four satellite concourses with over 400 aircraft contact stands, an automated passenger transport system, and an integrated landside transport hub. 3. Dubai flying taxi project Dubai will introduce fully electric air taxis in the first quarter of 2026 as part of its Advanced Air Mobility initiatives. According to Khaled Al Awadhi, Director of the Transportation Systems Department at Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the first of four vertiports will be operational in early 2026. He made the announcement during the World Congress and Exhibition on Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS World Congress) in Dubai in 2024. The project will provide a transport service across the city, with a focus on connections to hotels and the airport. The air taxis will be operated by Joby Aviation and will link four locations: Dubai International Airport, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina and Dubai Downtown. The aircraft will carry a pilot and four passengers at a speed of 320 km/h. A journey from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah is expected to take 10-12 minutes, compared with 45 minutes by car. Skyports Infrastructure signed a Definitive Agreement with Dubai's RTA and Joby Aviation during the World Governments Summit in February to launch passenger air taxi services in Dubai by 2026. Recently at the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2025, the UAE announced that work has begun on mapping air corridors and developing regulations for piloted and autonomous air taxis and cargo drones. The project is set to be completed within 20 months. The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) is working with the Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) entities—Technology Innovation Institute (TII) and ASPIRE—to implement the initiative, which will establish connections between international airports and locations across the Emirates. 4. Dubai Metro Blue Line masterplan In 2023, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, approved the Dubai Metro Blue Line project, a 30-kilometre metro route linking key areas in the emirate through 14 stations. This project is in line with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, anticipating the growth of around one million residents. The Blue Line, set for completion in 2029, marks a significant step in Dubai's infrastructure development. It will be the first metro route to cross Dubai Creek through a 1300-metre viaduct, comprising 15.5 km underground and 14.5 km above ground. The line will integrate with the Red and Green Lines, connecting important areas like Dubai International Airport (DXB), Mirdif, Al Warqa, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and Dubai Creek Harbour. The Blue Line is expected to serve 200,000 passengers daily by 2030 and 320,000 by 2040. The line features nine elevated and five underground stations, including a station at Dubai Creek Harbour, designed to handle 160,000 passengers daily. The project will add 30 kilometres to Dubai's metro network, expanding it to 131 kilometres. The Blue Line is projected to offer a benefit-cost ratio of 2.60, generating economic, social, and environmental returns, including time and fuel savings, reduced traffic congestion, and an increase in land value near stations. The line will serve areas with an estimated population of one million by 2040, including Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City, which is expected to accommodate over 50,000 university students by 2029. The project will use international technologies and design principles to maximise space efficiency and reduce costs. The Dubai Metro Blue Line is the fifth strategic project in the city's public transport network, following the Red and Green Lines, Dubai Tram, and Dubai Metro Route 2020. Upon completion, the network will include 78 stations, 68 for the metro and 10 for the tram. The line's expected impact includes a 20 per cent reduction in traffic congestion and an increase in property values near stations. The project is aligned with Dubai's strategy for sustainable development and economic growth, contributing to Dubai's competitiveness as a global hub. The Blue Line also supports the objectives of the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33) and Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which aims to make Dubai the best city to live in. 5. RAILBUS RAILBUS is a sustainable mass transit system powered by solar energy, designed to offer an efficient and eco-friendly solution for urban mobility. It features autonomous driving capabilities, allowing it to operate with minimal human intervention. The project was reviewed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai during the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2025. The system is intended to integrate with existing public transport networks, improving first and last-mile connectivity in urban areas. The RAILBUS carriages are built using sustainability-focused technologies, incorporating recyclable materials like carbon fibre, which reduces the overall weight of the carriages and contributes to lower energy and maintenance costs. The system also benefits from lower infrastructure and operational costs, making it a cost-effective transportation option. It has a capacity of 40 passengers per carriage, can reach a maximum speed of 100 km/h, and is designed to be scalable, with 3D printing technology used in its construction. RAILBUS aligns with the UAE's Net Zero Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Autonomous Transport Strategy 2030, which aims for 25 per cent of trips in Dubai to be autonomous by 2030. The system will undergo further technical studies to determine optimal locations for pilot operations in Dubai. 6. Dubai Loop Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications and Vice Chair of the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2025, and Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, recently announced the launch of the 'Dubai Loop', a transportation system designed to connect Dubai's densely populated areas. The announcement was made during a video call at WGS, where Musk outlined a network of tunnels that will allow passengers to move across the city without traffic congestion. Musk compared the system to moving through a 'wormhole,' enabling fast travel between two points. He said tunnels are more practical than flying cars due to their safety, efficiency, and protection from weather and noise. 7. Therme Dubai Therme Dubai—approved by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai—is a wellbeing resort and interactive park being developed in Zabeel Park, Dubai. It is set to become the first-of-its-kind in the Middle East and the tallest facility of its type globally. The project integrates elements of relaxation, leisure, family entertainment, healthcare, and natural environments. It aims to enhance the quality of life by providing a range of services focused on physical and mental well-being. The facility will feature various attractions, including natural therapeutic zones, thermal pools, waterslides, and a Michelin-star restaurant. It will also have the world's largest indoor botanical garden and offer a variety of wellness treatments inspired by global bathing traditions. Designed with sustainable engineering principles, the project will recycle most of the water used and meet a significant portion of its cooling needs through clean energy. Therme Dubai is expected to attract millions of visitors annually, contributing to Dubai's goal of becoming a global wellness tourism destination. It will have three main zones: the Play Zone, Relax Zone, and Restore Zone, catering to both families and adults, with a focus on health, wellness, and relaxation. The resort is also aligned with Dubai's long-term urban development goals and aims to improve the well-being of both residents and visitors. 8. Dubai Islands Dubai Islands is a major waterfront destination consisting of five interconnected islands, designed to offer luxurious living, leisure, and tourism experiences. With over 60 kilometers of waterfront and more than 20 kilometers of beaches, including a Blue Flag-certified beach, the islands also feature almost two kilometers of parks, open spaces, and premium golf courses overlooking the Arabian Gulf. The islands aim to contribute to Dubai's vision of becoming the best city for living in the world by offering a combination of residential, resort, retail, cultural, leisure, and wellness experiences. The five islands are: The Central Island, Marina Island, Shore Island, Golf Island, and Elite Island, each with its own distinct charm, making it a destination to explore. These islands will host luxurious properties like Bay Grove Residences and Bay Villas, alongside renowned hotels such as the Rixos Hotel & Resorts. Dubai Islands is designed to align with Dubai's 2040 Vision and is positioned as a symbol of future living, transcending time and trends. The development's geographical advantage lies in its proximity to the heart of the city, while still maintaining an island atmosphere. The islands are easily accessible from the mainland by both road and sea and are connected to Dubai's main landmarks and neighbourhoods. The drive to the islands is possible via the Infinity Bridge, which links them to the city. Additionally, the islands offer seamless connectivity through interconnected bridges and waterfront access, allowing for cruises and water transportation. Dubai Islands are located 10 minutes from Gold Souq Metro Station, 20 minutes from Dubai International Airport, 22 minutes from The Dubai Frame, 24 minutes from Dubai World Trade Centre and Downtown Dubai and 33 minutes from Business Bay. 9. The Island The Island is a hospitality and leisure development planned for Dubai. Developed by wasl Hospitality & Leisure, it is set to introduce the MGM, Bellagio, and Aria hotel brands to the Middle East. Designed by UNStudio and spanning 26 acres on a man-made island, the project will feature over 1,400 hotel rooms, suites, and apartments, alongside retail, dining, and entertainment facilities. BSBG serves as the lead consultant, executive architect, and structural engineer. The Island aims to enhance Dubai's status as a global tourism hub with resort hotels, a beach club, a multi-purpose entertainment venue, and a lagoon. 10. The Wilds The Wilds is a residential development in Dubai, launched by Aldar in partnership with Dubai Holding. It is designed to integrate urban living with nature, featuring a woodland sanctuary, diverse wildlife, and eco-friendly spaces. The community, located along Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road opposite Global Village, will include 1,700 homes ranging from mansions and villas to apartments. The development focuses on sustainability and wellness, with features such as bird nests, beekeeping zones, and duck houses to enhance biodiversity. Amenities will include a signature pavilion for wildlife observation, a premium international school, sports facilities, wellness spaces, and retail and healthcare services. Sales for The Wilds will begin in February 2025 at the Coca-Cola Arena. 11. Wasl Tower Wasl Tower is a 303-metre mixed-use skyscraper in Dubai's Al Wasl district on Sheikh Zayed Road. Designed by UNStudio and engineered by Werner Sobek, the tower features the region's tallest ceramic façade, which enhances sustainability by providing shade, improving cooling, and reducing lighting energy consumption. It houses premium office spaces, a 5-star Mandarin Oriental hotel, luxury residences, fine dining restaurants, and wellness amenities, including a spa and fitness centres. The tower also offers direct access to the Metro Station and Dubai Mall. With its futuristic design and sustainable architecture, Wasl Tower is a landmark addition to Dubai's skyline. 12. Ciel Tower Ciel Tower is an 82-storey skyscraper under development in Dubai Marina, set to become the world's tallest hotel upon completion. Developed by The First Group, it is designed by architectural firm NORR and will feature 1,004 rooms and suites, a rooftop infinity pool on the 76 th floor, and an observation deck on the 81 st floor offering panoramic views of Dubai's skyline, the Palm Jumeirah, and the Arabian Gulf. The tower's design includes a 300-metre-tall interior atrium with landscaped terraces, reflecting a focus on sustainability and innovation. Ciel has received multiple architectural awards, reinforcing its status as a landmark project in Dubai's hospitality sector. 13. Corinthia Tower Corinthia Tower is a planned luxury hotel and branded real estate development in Dubai, set to open in 2030. Developed by Corinthia Hotels in partnership with Dubai General Properties, the tower will be a 500-metre-plus skyscraper located on Sheikh Zayed Road near the Museum of the Future. The project will feature a hotel, branded residences, and the world's highest outdoor sky pool at over 500-metre. Designed with a distinctive contemporary architectural style, the tower will include a cantilevered sky lobby more than 200-metre above ground. The development will house the five-star Corinthia Dubai hotel, serviced penthouses, and apartments, offering luxury wellness and fitness facilities. Architectural and engineering consultancy AtkinsRéalis has been appointed as the lead architect, while Corinthia Group's QP company will manage the project. The total built-up area is expected to be 330,000 square-metre, with panoramic views of Dubai's skyline, Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab, and Jumeirah Beach. The project is positioned as a landmark addition to Dubai's luxury hospitality and real estate sector. 14. Franck Muller Aeternitas Tower The Franck Muller Aeternitas Tower is an upcoming luxury residential skyscraper in Dubai Marina, developed by London Gate in collaboration with Swiss luxury watchmaker Franck Muller. Standing at 450 metres with 106 floors, it will be the tallest residential tower in the world, the tallest branded residential tower in Dubai, and the tallest residential clock tower globally. Inspired by Franck Muller's craftsmanship, the tower will feature a Franck Muller-branded clock at its crown. It will house a range of exclusive residences, including sky mansions, sky villas, and one, two, and three-bedroom apartments. The project is valued at over AED2 billion ($545 million), with property prices starting at AED1.6 million ($435,000). London Gate has partnered with One Broker Group to introduce a flexible payment plan with a 40/60 structure. Residents will have access to high-end amenities, including a Zen garden, cigar lounge, library, private cinema, spa, yoga room, and private 24/7 concierge services. The tower is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2027. 15. Dubai Creek Tower Dubai Creek Tower is a planned skyscraper in Dubai, originally envisioned as a landmark within the Dubai Creek Harbour development. In August 2023, Emaar founder Mohamed Alabbar confirmed that the project was undergoing a redesign, with a fresh concept being developed in collaboration with an international firm. Alabbar stated that it was 'unlikely' to be the tallest structure in Dubai, in an exclusive interview with Arabian Business. 'A lot of work is still going on the redesign, I'm not sure it will be the tallest tower in Dubai. We have to always look at our bottom line and deliver value to our customers and our shareholders,' Alabbar said at the time. The tower's original design aimed to be 100 metres taller than the Burj Khalifa and serve as the centrepiece of the Dubai Creek Harbour development, featuring cable-supported structures. However, construction was paused after completing the foundation in 2017, largely due to the pandemic's impact. 'There is not a set timescale for this. I have to be happy with the redesigns,' Alabbar told Arabian Business. 16. Baccarat Hotel and Residences Baccarat Hotel & Residences Dubai is an upcoming ultra-luxury hospitality and residential development in Downtown Dubai, set to open in 2027. Developed by Shamal Holding in collaboration with H&H Development and SH Hotels & Resorts, it marks the first Baccarat-branded property in the UAE. The project consists of two crystal-inspired towers, one housing a 145-key hotel alongside branded residences and the other dedicated to residential units. Designed by Studio Libeskind with interiors by 1508 London, the development draws inspiration from Baccarat's crystal heritage. The hotel will feature high-end amenities, including world-class dining, a Grand Salon with Baccarat chandeliers, a luxury spa, and exclusive branded residences with Burj Khalifa views. The residences include two-to-four-bedroom apartments and four penthouses, with one five-bedroom penthouse featuring a private gym, pool, and wine cellar. The project aligns with Dubai's growing ultra-luxury hospitality sector, offering guests and residents an opulent living experience with meticulous attention to craftsmanship and design. 17. Palm Jebel Ali Palm Jebel Ali is a large-scale waterfront development in Dubai, UAE, being developed by Nakheel as part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, following the approval from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. It is a reclaimed island project that is twice the size of Palm Jumeirah and will add approximately 110 kilometres of coastline to Dubai. Designed as a sustainable, mixed-use urban destination, it will feature luxury residential communities, entertainment and leisure facilities, and extensive green spaces. The development will include over 80 hotels and resorts, as well as 35,000 beachfront homes, positioning it as a major tourism and residential hub. It will also incorporate smart city technologies, pedestrian-friendly neighbourhoods, and renewable energy solutions, with 30 percent of its power coming from sustainable sources. Palm Jebel Ali marks the expansion of Dubai's urban infrastructure and supports the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 by attracting investment and reinforcing the city's status as a global metropolis. In 2024, Nakheel, now part of Dubai Holding Real Estate, awarded three major contracts worth over AED5 billion for the construction of 723 ultra-luxury villas on the first six fronds of Palm Jebel Ali. The contracts were awarded to Ginco General Contracting, Shapoorji Pallonji Mideast, and United Engineering Construction Company (UNEC), covering the development of Beach Collection and Coral Collection villas with exclusive beach frontage. These villas will range from five to seven bedrooms, with built-up areas between 8,000 and 15,000 square feet. The project will also include supporting infrastructure such as roads, utilities, and landscaping, aligning with Dubai's long-term urban expansion strategy. 18. Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab is an upcoming ultra-luxury resort in Dubai, set to open on March 14, 2025. Located on a private peninsula between Jumeirah Beach Hotel and Burj Al Arab, it completes Jumeirah's ocean-inspired hotel trilogy. Designed by architect Shaun Killa, the resort's exterior resembles a futuristic superyacht. The property features 386 rooms and suites, including 82 luxury hotel apartment suites, all offering panoramic views of the Arabian Gulf. It will include a 3,500 sqm spa and fitness area spread over three floors, four pools, a private beach, and a superyacht marina accommodating 82 yachts. Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab will also add to Dubai's flourishing dining scene with 11 restaurants and nine lounges, including a unique dining concept combining four signature restaurants. The resort promises a high-end lifestyle experience with exclusive residences, luxury amenities, and world-class hospitality. 19. Jebel Ali Beach Development Project masterplan The Jebel Ali Beach Development Project masterplan outlines a comprehensive vision to transform Jebel Ali Beach into a world-class recreational destination with a strong focus on environmental preservation. The beach will span 6.6 kilometres and will feature a variety of facilities and services while ensuring the protection of local ecosystems and wildlife. The project is located within the Jebel Ali Wildlife Sanctuary, a Ramsar site, and aims to enhance turtle habitats and plant mangrove trees as part of its commitment to sustainability. The masterplan includes areas for swimming, diving, sports activities, walking, cycling, and other recreational pursuits. Visitors will have access to a 2-kilometre open swimming beach, a 2.5-kilometre diving sports area, a 5-kilometre running track, and a 5-kilometre cycling track. The beach will be divided into three distinct areas: 'The Pearl,' which will offer family-friendly activities with beach clubs, pools, sports, restaurants, and a floating restaurant; 'The Sanctuary,' which focuses on turtle protection and environmental conservation; and 'The Nest,' an educational hub dedicated to environmental conservation, featuring a centre for studies and turtle rehabilitation. The architectural design of the project draws inspiration from marine elements like coral and turtle shells, using locally sourced materials to blend with the natural environment. The infrastructure will include modern facilities, such as roads, parking for 1,000 vehicles, bicycle racks, and accessible spaces for people of determination. The development will also incorporate advanced technology services, including Wi-Fi, AI-powered rescue services, and enhanced monitoring systems. The initiative includes the installation of a 300-megawatt solar energy system, the planting of 1 million new trees, and a shift towards non-motorised transport options. The project also aims to reduce the city's carbon footprint, enhance community connectivity, and create new urban farms and gardens. It envisions solar-powered trams, supported by a substantial clean energy initiative, as well as extensive green spaces that will improve both environmental health and community well-being. The integration of mixed-use developments will combine residential, commercial, and recreational spaces, fostering connectivity and reducing car dependency. 21. Dubai Reefs Dubai Reefs is a planned large-scale, sustainable marine megaproject being developed off the coast of Dubai by URB. It aims to strengthen the city's position as a leader in marine conservation and innovation. The floating community will include facilities for marine research, regeneration, ecotourism, hospitality, retail, and education, with a particular focus on protecting and preserving the marine and coastal environment. Key features of Dubai Reefs include the world's largest artificial reef, covering 200 square kilometres, which will house over 1 billion corals and 100 million mangrove trees. The project will also feature floating eco-lodges powered entirely by renewable energy, including solar and hydropower. A significant aspect of the project is its focus on ocean regeneration, with techniques like Regenerative Ocean Farming for sustainable food production. The project aims to offer a blueprint for ocean living, combining ecotourism, marine research, and environmental conservation in a resilient, sustainable manner. Dubai Reefs will serve as a model for other coastal cities, promoting social, environmental, and economic benefits while addressing the impacts of climate change. 22. Dubai Mangroves The Dubai Mangroves project is a planned coastal regeneration initiative aimed at enhancing Dubai's resilience and biodiversity by URB. Spanning 72 kilometers along the city's coastline, it seeks to plant over 100 million mangrove trees, making it the world's largest such project. The project aligns with Dubai's 2040 Master Plan, integrating ecological preservation with urban development. Mangroves are unique coastal ecosystems known for their ability to sequester carbon, protect shorelines from erosion, and support marine life. In this project, they will play a crucial role in mitigating climate change impacts by absorbing large amounts of CO2, improving marine biodiversity, and offering natural protection against rising sea levels and storm surges. Additionally, mangroves serve as nurseries for fish, enhancing food security and supporting local fisheries. The project combines mangrove restoration with eco-tourism, education, and community engagement through various facilities such as the Mangrove Visitor Hub, Botanical Museum, and Nature Reserve Conservation Center. It also uses cutting-edge technologies like drones and AI for efficient restoration and monitoring, setting a global benchmark for coastal regeneration efforts. 23. THE LOOP THE LOOP is a planned 93-kilometre sustainable urban highway project in Dubai designed to promote walking and cycling as the primary modes of transport. It aims to connect over 3 million residents to key services and locations, creating a climate-controlled, all-year-round environment for these activities. In line with Dubai's 20-minute city initiative, the project seeks to make cycling and walking the main forms of daily commuting for more than 80 percent of the city's residents by 2040. Dubai's ambitious cycling masterplan aims to crown the city as the world's most bike-friendly by 2040 Developed by URB, THE LOOP integrates features such as a zero-emissions transport system, 100% renewable energy, recycled water for irrigation, and vertical farms for food security. It addresses the gap in connectivity between cycling and public transport, ensuring safer and year-round usability. The initiative marks a shift from car-centric infrastructure to people-centric urban mobility, aiming to improve residents' health and well-being while making urban mobility more enjoyable. THE LOOP is set to become a global benchmark for the world's smartest cycling and walking infrastructure. 24. Dubai Cycle City 2040 The Dubai Cycle City 2040 is a planned urban development project aimed at transforming Dubai into the world's most bike-friendly city by 2040, surpassing renowned cycling cities like Amsterdam and Copenhagen. The initiative, which is currently in the planning and research stages, is focused on creating over 1,000 kilometres of cycling infrastructure, including cycling highways such as THE LOOP, a 93 km cycling route. The masterplan envisions a significant shift in urban mobility by making cycling and walking the primary modes of transport, enabling residents to access key services and locations within minutes. This transformation is being driven by a paradigm shift in transportation culture, which is expected to cater to a growing population of 8 million people by 2040. The project not only focuses on cycling but also aims to incorporate urban agriculture, social spaces, sports facilities, and other amenities to enhance the quality of life in various neighbourhoods. Additionally, it aligns with Dubai's broader goals of becoming a 20-minute city and achieving the objectives set in its 2040 urban masterplan. The Dubai Cycle City 2040 is led by URB, and seeks to establish Dubai as a global leader in sustainable urban mobility and is positioned as a major entrepreneurial effort in reshaping urban landscapes. 25. Dubai Agri Hub The Agri Hub in Dubai is a planned transformative agritourism project designed to make Dubai the world's largest agritourism destination. It aims to create over 10,000 jobs and promote a green economy by offering a unique blend of agricultural, recreational, and educational experiences in Dubai's desert, according to its developer URB. The hub will feature a nature and heritage conservation center, an ecotourism center, an Agri-tech institute, and a restorative wellness center, offering a variety of activities like camel riding, horse riding, and desert walks. It will also support local farmers, provide spaces for selling their produce, and offer eco-friendly shopping, dining, and entertainment. The hub will focus on sustainability through 100 percent renewable energy, water recycling, and zero waste management. With facilities for health, wellness, and education, as well as outdoor leisure options, Agri Hub aims to enrich local culture and boost the quality of life for residents while promoting sustainable rural tourism. 26. Dubai Urban Tech District The Urban Tech District in Dubai is a planned large-scale development designed to foster innovation and entrepreneurship in urban technology. Located in the Al Jaddaf area, it will cover 140,000 square metres and create 4,000 jobs in sectors such as green urban tech, education, and training. The district will also serve as a hub for venture capitals, enabling entrepreneurs to develop solutions addressing urbanisation challenges like food security, renewable energy, water management, waste reduction, and more. It will include state-of-the-art facilities for conferences, research, training, and business incubation, as well as shared office spaces and amenities. The district will be a net-zero carbon development, aiming to reduce its carbon footprint and provide opportunities for businesses and innovators focused on sustainable urban solutions. The Urban Tech Institute, located within the district, will help train the next generation of urban tech leaders. 27. Dubai Square Dubai Square is a large-scale shopping and entertainment destination under development by Emaar Properties in Dubai Creek Harbour. It is set to become the second-largest mall in Dubai, incorporating advanced technologies and innovative concepts in retail, dining, and entertainment. The project is designed to go beyond traditional shopping environments, offering a next-generation experience with AI-driven insights into visitor and retailer needs. Strategically linked to the upcoming Dubai Creek Tower, Dubai Square is positioned at the heart of Dubai Creek Harbour, an ultra-modern urban district. The project features pedestrian-friendly streets, vast residential spaces, open green areas, and proximity to the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary. It is expected to enhance Dubai's status as a global shopping and leisure hub. 28. Meydan One Meydan One is a large-scale, self-contained development in Dubai, designed as a fully integrated destination for both residents and visitors. It spans a wide range of features, including residential, commercial, recreational, and cultural spaces. The development includes the world's tallest residential tower, a mall with a retractable skylight, luxury hotels, and the world's longest indoor ski slope. It also offers extensive office space, a massive central park, and a four-kilometre navigable waterway connecting to the Arabian Gulf. Meydan One boasts numerous amenities such as wave pools, a water park, a heritage village, and spaces for extreme sports. The Grand Plaza, which can host up to 30,000 people, serves as a civic hub for events, while the Heritage Museum provides insight into the UAE's history and culture. The development is designed to offer a holistic experience with a mix of modern amenities, cultural attractions, and recreational activities, making it a unique and strategically positioned destination in Dubai. 29. Floating Smart Police Station (SPS) Dubai's floating Smart Police Station (SPS) is a pioneering project set to become operational by the end of 2026. Launched as part of a series of strategic initiatives for Dubai Police, it aims to offer advanced, world-class services at sea. The floating station is designed to cater to the needs of yacht and boat owners, as well as water sports enthusiasts, providing a range of services to enhance community safety and happiness. It will operate 24/7, without human intervention, and offer 27 primary services, including criminal and traffic report filing, along with 33 additional services, all available in six languages. This project is part of Dubai Police's broader efforts to create fully automated, smart police stations throughout the emirate, enhancing security and convenience for residents and visitors on both land and sea. The station will use artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics to improve operational efficiency and reduce the need for physical visits to conventional police centres. It will also feature a design that simplifies the process of arrival, boarding, and disembarking for its users, making it more accessible and faster. 30. Bugatti Residences Bugatti Residences by Binghatti is an upcoming luxury real estate development in Business Bay, Dubai, marking the first-ever Bugatti-branded residences in the world. Developed in collaboration between Bugatti and Binghatti, the project features a distinctive architectural design inspired by Bugatti's luxury aesthetics and the elegance of the French Riviera. The development includes 171 Riviera Mansions and 11 Sky Mansion Penthouses, each uniquely designed with bespoke layouts. It offers high-end amenities such as a Riviera-inspired beach, private pools, a jacuzzi spa, a fitness club, a chef's table, a private valet, a members-only club, and garage-to-penthouse car lifts. Additionally, residents will have access to luxury services, including chauffeur and concierge services. 31. Mercedes-Benz Places | Binghatti Mercedes-Benz Places in Dubai is an upcoming luxury branded residential development by Binghatti Properties in partnership with Mercedes-Benz. Located in Downtown Dubai, the 65-storey tower will rise to 341 metres and offer high-end living inspired by Mercedes-Benz's design philosophy, Sensual Purity. It is the first Mercedes-Benz branded residence in the world, combining real estate and automotive excellence with a focus on intelligent living, smart home technologies, and mobility solutions. The project aims to redefine luxury urban living, offering views of the Burj Khalifa and proximity to Dubai Mall. 32. Burj Binghatti Jacob & Co Residences Burj Binghatti Jacob & Co Residences is a planned ultra-luxury residential skyscraper in Dubai's Business Bay, developed by Binghatti in partnership with luxury jewellery and watch brand Jacob & Co. The tower aims to be the world's tallest residential building, surpassing the current record-holder, New York's Central Park Tower (472.4 metres), though its final height has not been disclosed. The development will feature over 100 floors and offer two- and three-bedroom residences, along with high-end penthouses. It will include luxury amenities such as an infinity pool with panoramic Dubai skyline views, a private member's club, and an in-house concierge service providing private chefs, bodyguards, and chauffeurs. The tower's design has been created in collaboration with Jacob & Co, incorporating extravagant architectural elements inspired by the brand's jewellery and watches. 33. Burj Azizi Burj Azizi is a planned $1.5 billion skyscraper in Dubai, set to become the city's second tallest tower. Developed by Azizi Developments, the 131+ storey building on Sheikh Zayed Road will feature luxury residences, a seven-star hotel, retail spaces, and entertainment facilities. The residential section will include one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, with amenity floors every 20 levels offering swimming pools, gyms, spas, and recreational facilities. The seven-star hotel will be themed around seven cultures—Arabic, Chinese, Persian, Indian, Turkish, French, and Russian—featuring culturally styled restaurants, an Emirati restaurant, a luxury ballroom, and a beach club. The tower will also set world records with the highest observation deck (level 130), highest hotel lobby (level 111), highest nightclub (level 126), highest restaurant (level 122), and highest hotel room (level 118). A museum at the top will showcase the building's development through multimedia exhibits. The project is scheduled for completion by 2028. 34. Azizi Venice Azizi Venice is a large-scale mixed-use upcoming waterfront development by Azizi Developments, located in Dubai South. It is designed as a community featuring more than 36,000 residential units across 100+ apartment complexes, over 109 ultra-luxury mansions, and extensive retail, hospitality, and cultural attractions. At the heart of Azizi Venice is a massive lagoon surrounded by condominiums, villas, and mansions. The development includes sandy beaches, an 8-kilometre-long cycling and jogging track, yoga and sports facilities, and a vibrant promenade lined with restaurants and boutiques. A key highlight of the project is The Cultural District, which will feature an opera house designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, a theatre, an exhibition hall, and a performing arts academy. The area will serve as a cultural and artistic hub, attracting creatives and visitors from around the world. Azizi Venice also includes pedestrian-friendly spaces that transform seasonally, five-star hotels, a boutique hotel on an island within the lagoon, a hospital, schools, and extensive entertainment and retail options. The development is expected to welcome over 30,000 visitors daily and will feature decorative lighting, musical fountains, and themed seasonal decorations, making it a prominent tourist and lifestyle destination in Dubai. 35. Hatta redevelopment masterplan The Hatta Master Development Plan is part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, aimed at preserving Hatta's natural environment, enhancing its tourism potential, and supporting development through private sector partnerships. The plan includes initiatives to support projects by Hatta residents, create economic opportunities, and maintain the area's geographical identity. The plan outlines measures to improve public facilities and services, develop a sustainable transportation system, and establish hotels that cater to both community members and tourists. It seeks to position Hatta as a year-round tourist destination under the World's Coolest Winter campaign. A Supreme Committee will be formed to oversee development and manage projects in collaboration with the private sector. Approved projects include a private school designed to accommodate 700 to 1,000 students, a neighbourhoods council, and the Hatta Beach Project, covering 53,000 square metres, featuring a 10,000-square-metre beach, an artificial lake, pedestrian pathways, cycling tracks, restaurants, and an outdoor cinema. Further developments include the construction of 235 houses in the Makan area, hotels and resorts, and the redevelopment of Hatta Downtown next to Hatta Souq. Hatta Souq, covering 146,000 square metres, will have 70 commercial units, children's activity areas, outdoor seating, and green spaces. The plan also includes 330 investment opportunities and agricultural and landscaping works in the area. 36. Ramhan Island Ramhan Island is a new $3.5 billion luxury island development off the coast of Abu Dhabi, launched by Mohamed Alabbar and developed by his privately owned Eagle Hills company. The project spans 4 million square metres and features 1,800 standalone villas, 900 marina residences, 120 luxury hotel keys, and 120 serviced residences. The island comprises four distinct villa communities—Marine Island Villas, Cove Island Villas, Breeze Island Villas, and Views Island Villas—surrounded by mangroves and scenic bays. Waterfront villas range from three to seven bedrooms, with private beaches and sea views. The development also includes high-end amenities such as luxury hotels, fine dining, retail spaces, a marina and yacht club, premium healthcare facilities, schools, and outdoor sports facilities. Ramhan Island is located 20 minutes from Abu Dhabi Mainland and is positioned near key landmarks like Yas Island, Saadiyat Island, and Abu Dhabi International Airport. It aims to provide an exclusive waterfront lifestyle for residents and ultra-high-net-worth individuals, with natural surroundings including beaches, dolphins, and turtles. 37. Sphere Abu Dhabi Sphere Abu Dhabi is a planned next-generation entertainment venue in Abu Dhabi, UAE, developed through a partnership between Sphere Entertainment Co. and the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi). It will be the second Sphere venue in the world after the first one opened in Las Vegas in 2023. Designed as an advanced immersive entertainment destination, Sphere Abu Dhabi will integrate cutting-edge technology with storytelling to create unique live experiences, including concerts, shows, and events. The venue will have a 20,000-person capacity, similar to its Las Vegas counterpart, and aims to become a major attraction for residents and visitors. Under the partnership, DCT Abu Dhabi will fund the construction, while Sphere Entertainment will provide proprietary designs, technology, and intellectual property. After its opening, Sphere Entertainment will continue to support operations, content creation, and venue management through an ongoing licensing and advisory agreement. The project aligns with Abu Dhabi's Tourism Strategy 2030, reinforcing the city's position as a hub for culture, innovation, and world-class entertainment. 38. Saadiyat Grove Saadiyat Grove is an AED8 billion inclusive community development located in the Cultural District of Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi. Developed by Aldar Properties, Saadiyat Grove spans 242,000 square metres. The project aims to transform the retail, tourism, and leisure landscape of Abu Dhabi, contributing to the emirate's GDP and attracting foreign direct investments. It features 60,000 square metres of experiential retail, entertainment, and leisure spaces, alongside 3,706 residential units. The community will also include hotels, co-working spaces, and facilities to support entrepreneurship. Saadiyat Grove is designed to create an inclusive living experience with amenities such as gyms, pools, play areas, community gardens, and a running track. The development is in close proximity to iconic cultural landmarks like the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum, and the future Guggenheim Abu Dhabi. The project prioritises sustainability and green initiatives, featuring smart technologies and a focus on environmental responsibility. 39. Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi The Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi is a cultural and scientific institution under development in the Saadiyat Cultural District. Covering 35,000 sqm, the museum will present the history of life on Earth, the formation of the universe, and the connections between ecosystems through specimens and immersive displays. It will take visitors on a 13.8-billion-year journey from the origins of the universe to the present and explore future possibilities. The museum will also function as a research and educational institution, supporting studies in zoology, palaeontology, marine biology, molecular research, and earth sciences. A dedicated research facility will focus on scientific studies and environmental conservation. The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and Miral are leading the project. As of 2024, construction is 65 percent complete, with structural works finished. Work is underway on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems, building fit-out, and exhibition installation. The museum is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025. 40. Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Guggenheim Abu Dhabi is a museum dedicated to global modern and contemporary art, located in the Saadiyat Cultural District. It is being developed through a collaboration between the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. The museum will present a global collection, with a specific focus on art from West Asia, North Africa, and South Asia. It aims to explore points of intersection, transcultural exchange, and historical contexts through its collection, exhibitions, commissions, research, and publications. The museum's collection includes over 600 works spanning multiple artistic media, generations of artists, and a broad range of countries and regions. It will provide a platform for artists from the UAE, the Gulf, and the wider WANASA region to showcase their work and engage with global audiences. The museum will also support educational and community outreach initiatives, advancing the study and interpretation of modern and contemporary art. Designed by architect Frank Gehry, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will be the largest of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation's museums. It will join other cultural institutions in the Saadiyat Cultural District, including Louvre Abu Dhabi and the upcoming Zayed National Museum. The museum is scheduled for completion in 2025. 41. The Zayed National Museum Zayed National Museum is the national museum of the United Arab Emirates, located in Abu Dhabi's Saadiyat Island Cultural District. It celebrates the history, culture, and values of the UAE, with a particular focus on the life and legacy of the nation's founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The museum highlights Sheikh Zayed's leadership, wisdom, and commitment to unity, education, and cultural preservation. Through exhibitions, research, and public programs, it explores the UAE's journey from its ancient past to the present day. Designed by Foster + Partners, the museum's architecture is inspired by the wings of a falcon in flight, symbolising Sheikh Zayed's passion for heritage and the environment. The five aerodynamic towers incorporate traditional cooling techniques, blending sustainability with modern technology. The museum also features Al Masar Garden, which reflects landscapes significant to Sheikh Zayed's life, including the desert, oasis, and urban environments. As a centre for learning and cultural exchange, Zayed National Museum aims to provide visitors with an engaging and informative experience, honouring the UAE's heritage and its founder's enduring influence. 42. Louvre Abu Dhabi Residences Louvre Abu Dhabi Residences is a premium residential development launched by Aldar Properties in partnership with Louvre Abu Dhabi. Located within Saadiyat Grove on Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi, it offers 400 high-end apartments, including studios, one-, two-, and three-bedroom units, as well as five exclusive penthouses. Designed to reflect the artistic and cultural prestige of the Louvre Abu Dhabi museum, the residences feature curated artworks, luxury interiors, and world-class amenities. These include a private lounge, cinema, wellness centre, elevated swimming pools, and bespoke five-star concierge services. Residents will also receive exclusive membership benefits, such as access to Louvre Abu Dhabi's exhibitions, events, and personalised art consultations, Aldar said in a 2022 statement. The project is set to be completed in 2025. 43. Abu Dhabi's Al Hudayriyat Island project Hudayriyat Island is a large-scale development project in Abu Dhabi, covering more than 51 million square metres. It is designed to support the city's urban expansion and contribute to its strategic vision. The island will include residential communities, sports facilities, leisure attractions, and commercial spaces. Key features of the development include Surf Abu Dhabi, Velodrome Abu Dhabi, and the largest urban park in the Emirate. The project will also add 53.5 kilometres of coastline, including 16 kilometres of beaches. Modon Properties is leading the development, with construction of Phase 1 infrastructure underway. The first freehold apartment development, Nawayef Park Views, has been launched, offering one- to four-bedroom apartments with various amenities. 44. Jubail Islands Jubail Island is an AED15 billion master-planned residential and lifestyle development in Abu Dhabi, designed as a low-density, eco-conscious community. It focuses on sustainability, community living, and high-quality infrastructure while preserving the environment. The recent handover of 44 units in Nad Al Dhabi marks a key milestone, with ongoing phased deliveries for homeowners. 45. Oasis Eco Resort The Oasis Eco Resort in Abu Dhabi is a planned sustainable, eco-friendly resort designed with a focus on water usage, health, materials, pollution, ecology, and waste management. It offers 84 interconnecting suites with various types, each providing stunning views and an outdoor terrace. The resort features a restaurant and bar serving organic ingredients grown on-site, alongside indigenous and organic international cuisine. Guests can enjoy unique dining experiences, including dune-dining in the desert or by a spring, and have the opportunity to forage organic produce or catch fish. Environmental initiatives include recycling wastewater for irrigation, on-site waste management, a zero-emission zone, and 157,000 square feet of solar panels. 46. Aljada Aljada is a large-scale mixed-use development in Sharjah, UAE, designed to offer a comprehensive urban living experience. Spanning 24 million square feet, it features residential districts, retail spaces, hospitality, entertainment, sports facilities, educational institutions, healthcare services, and a business park, all within a green master plan. Developed by Arada, Aljada includes 25,000 homes, with over 7,500 already delivered and more under construction. Key components of the development include Madar family entertainment district, Nest student housing, and multiple schools, including SABIS International School-Aljada. It is positioned as a transformative destination for Sharjah, integrating living, working, and leisure spaces. 47. Sharjah Floating Theatre The Sharjah Floating Theatre is an upcoming open-air theatre project located in Kalba, on Sharjah's east coast. The theatre, designed in the shape of a sea shell and surrounded by water basins, offers a full view of the Kalba Corniche and the Arabian Sea. Wynn Al Marjan Wynn Al Marjan Island is a luxury integrated resort under construction in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE. It is being developed by Wynn Resorts in partnership with Marjan and RAK Hospitality Holding and is set to be the first integrated gaming resort in the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region. The beachfront resort, spanning nearly 62 hectares on Al Marjan Island, is expected to open in early 2027. The resort will feature a 300-meter-tall main tower with 1,542 rooms, suites, and 22 private Villa Estates. The high-speed train will enable individuals to travel between Abu Dhabi and Dubai in just 30 minutes, reaching speeds of up to 350 km/h.
