UAE weather tomorrow: Temperatures to decrease; could get dusty at times

As the UAE weather department had predicted a few days ago, temperatures continue to dip across the country. The forecast for Saturday, May 31 is for partly cloudy skies with a gradual decrease in temperatures, according to the bulletin issued by the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM). It could get dusty at times with blowing dust and sand reducing the horizontal visibility at times, with a speed of 15kmph and 30kmph, reaching 40kmph. The sea will be rough in the Arabian Gulf and slight to moderate, becoming rough by evening in Oman Sea. It will be mostly sunny in Abu Dhabi with temperatures in the UAE capital likely to see a high of 40°C and a low of 28°C, while in Dubai, it will be 43°C with a low of 27°C. Sharjah will witness a high of 42°C and a low of 28°C. The NCM had on May 27 said that after days of intense heat, residents across the UAE can look forward to some cooler days. Temperatures will begin to dip by four to five degrees in the coming days, a senior meteorologist had said. The scorching conditions were caused by an internal low-pressure system from the south of the UAE, pushing hot desert air across the region. Last weekend saw temperatures soar to a staggering 51.6°C in Sweihan, Al Ain, marking the hottest May day ever recorded in the country since 2003. The previous record stood at 50.2°C in Al Shawamekh, Abu Dhabi, experienced in 2009.

UAE hits highest May temperature on record at 50.4°C

The United Arab Emirates recorded on Friday its highest temperature for May since it began documenting them in 2003 at a sweltering 50.4 degrees Celsius, according to the National Center of Meteorology. 'The highest temperature recorded over the country today is 50.4°C in Al Shawamekh (Abu Dhabi) at 14:30 UAE Local time,' it said in a post on X. 'This is the highest temperature we've ever recorded (for May) since we started keeping records in 2003,' the NCM told AFP. That topped the highest temperature of 50.2 Celsius recorded in May 2009, said the center. The UAE is one of the world's top oil exporters, but has also invested heavily in renewable energy.

UAE: When will summer start? Longest day, shortest night of the year to fall in June

With the cold season long gone, UAE residents are feeling the heat as the sun's rays beat down. This year recorded one of the hottest Aprils (so far) in the decade, along with a reduction in rainfall, according to the National Centre of Meteorology. As people shed their winter coats for lighter florals, has summer begun yet? While calendar and temperature trends may not align with the astronomical onset, the hot season is, astronomically, yet to begin. June 21 marks summer solstice in UAE, according to Dubai Astronomy Group. A summer solstice is "the moment when the Sun reaches its highest and northernmost point in the sky", said Khadijah Al Hariri, Operations Manager at DAG. This also marks the longest day and shortest night of the year. The summer solstice occurs "because Earth's tilt is most directly angled toward the Sun at that time," Khadijah added. NCM previously shared tips on how to beat the heat. These guidelines help residents enjoy the outdoors safely:
