Hong Kong cycling confident of being chosen as a host of new Track World Cup event

Hong Kong's top cycling official said the city was working on a bid to host several international track tournaments over the next two years. Advertisement Leung Hung-tak, chairman of the Cycling Association of Hong Kong, China, said his organisation was working with the world governing body, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), on the return of world-class competition to the city's velodrome. And with the city having previously staged UCI events, Leung said he was confident Hong Kong would be chosen even if there were competing applications. 'Hong Kong still has an advantage because our previous tournaments have given them [UCI] confidence,' he said. Hong Kong has hosted the Track Cycling World Cup three times – in 2016 and twice in 2019 – the Track Cycling Nations Cup in 2021 and 2024, as well as the UCI Track Cycling World Championships in 2017. GB's Richardson adds individual sprint gold to team title

Matthew Richardson won men's sprint gold at the UCI Track Nations Cup in Turkey, two days after helping Great Britain to team glory. Kent-born Richardson, competing for GB having switched nationality from Australia last year, beat British team-mate Harry Ledingham-Horn in Sunday's final. On Friday, Richardson, Ledingham-Horn and Harry Radford set a new British record on their way to gold in the men's team sprint. Having been the fastest in qualifying, the British trio posted a record time of 41.788 seconds in the first round, before Ledingham-Horn reversed a narrow deficit against Japan in the gold-medal ride. Britain's only other medal of the event came in the women's team sprint, with Lowri Thomas, Lauren Bell and Rhian Edmunds taking home silver medals.

No one happy with cycling bosses slashing marquee Nations Cup, Hong Kong head coach says

Herve Dagorne has said nobody was happy that cycling's 2025 UCI Track Nations Cup had been slashed to a single leg in Turkey this week. Advertisement The sport's annual blue-riband competition, outside the World Championships, the Nations Cup has been staged over three legs since it was introduced in 2021, to replace the old multi-leg World Cup. Dagorne, the Hong Kong head coach, said global governing body UCI's failure to find two additional hosts this year was 'concerning for everybody'. 'Every nation waited so long [for news about second and third legs], we were all planning training camps and, eventually, it was for nothing, so it's very frustrating,' Dagorne added. And the UCI had offered no guarantees over a return to the three-leg format next year, the Frenchman said, adding that with the global economy not as robust as previously many countries 'can't afford to host' an event.
