UIS Police investigating after shots fired near campus
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Officers with the University of Illinois Springfield responded to reports of shots fired near campus housing early Sunday morning.
A UIS spokesperson said that around 1:12 a.m., the UIS Police Department responded near West Campus housing. When officers arrived, the suspect had already fled the scene. But, police were able to locate shell casings.

No damage was reported, and no one was injured. Police do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the university community.
UIS said the suspect was described as a light-skinned Black male with short dreadlocks. At the time of the incident, the suspect was described as wearing denim shorts and a black long-sleeve top.
