NNA - The Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA) organized on Wednesday (April 9, 2025), a workshop titled 'Photo Reportage for Media Outlets: Understanding How to Shoot, Key Elements, and Common Mistakes', in cooperation with the Russian news and radio agency Sputnik, and with the participation of more than 200 media professionals from around the world. At the beginning of the workshop, UNA Director-General Mr. Mohammed bin Abdurrahman Al-Yami emphasized that the workshop aims to enhance journalists' awareness of the correct methods for capturing outstanding shots and producing a complete photo report. He stressed the importance of images in persuasion, information completion, and documentation. He also expressed his thanks to Sputnik for its efforts in organizing the workshop and sharing its expertise with journalists in member states. The workshop addressed some common drawbacks among those interested in photography and ways to overcome them. It also discussed errors that could weaken a photo report and how photographers can choose the right angles while working on visual stories across various media platforms to enhance the quality and creativity of their work. It is worth noting that the workshop is part of a series of training and educational programs organized by UNA to build the capacity of journalists in member states and increase their awareness of the rapid transformations in media content production. ========

Alberta nurses and provincial health agencies reach tentative deal

The union representing more than 30,000 nurses in Alberta has reached a tentative agreement with provincial health agencies. On Monday, the United Nurses of Alberta (UNA) announced the tentative agreement was signed between the union and several public health agencies including Alberta Health Services, Recovery Alberta, Primary Care Alberta, Covenant Health, Lamont Health Care Centre, and The Bethany Group (Camrose). According to a Monday press release, the new four-year collective agreement will 'significantly improve' wages for members. Registered nurses (RNs) and registered psychiatric nurses (RPNs) will have an immediate increase of approximately 15 per cent, and an overall increase of approximately 20 per cent. 'There are also other significant monetary improvements in the tentative agreement, including increases to charge pay, on-call pay, and car allowances, plus agreement that employers will pay all professional college registration and liability insurance fees,' the UNA said in the release. Before the agreement becomes official, members will have to vote to ratify the new Provincial Collective Agreement. The negotiating committee is recommending the ratification vote take place on April 2. Finance Minister and Treasury Board President Nate Horner thanked both AHS and UNA leadership for their efforts and said he cannot speak on the contents of the deal at this time. 'I have tremendous respect for the unique role nurses have in the health and well-being of all Albertans. This proposed settlement recognizes their hard work and dedication and the value they bring to our health care system,' Horner said. On top of the monetary increase, employers will commit to providing a safe environment for staff and clients. The UNA said they've received a letter from the health minister stating that any job transfers of a RN or RPN due to the refocusing of the health care system to a new agency or health corporation will preserve seniority, contractual benefits and UNA representation. A second letter signed by the jobs, economy and trade minister stated that RNs and RPNS will be included in presumptive coverage by the Worker's Compensation Board for any psychological injuries related to post-traumatic stress disorder and other traumatic mental health injuries. The UNA said this was a 'significant policy change.' A virtual Reporting Meeting of Local Representatives will be held on March 25. ctran@ X: @kccindytran Alberta nurses rally to support frontline health-care workers Alberta nurses vote to reject mediator's recommended settlement Bookmark our website and support our journalism: Don't miss the news you need to know — add and to your bookmarks and sign up for our newsletters here. SALT LAKE CITY () — On Monday, Jan. 27, the Trump administration — a move that caused panic and confusion for many. Federal judge temporarily blocks Trump admin's freeze on federal grants, loans The funding freeze — which was set to begin at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28 — was just minutes before going into effect. The temporary administrative stay lasts until the afternoon of Monday, Feb. 3, and applies only to existing programs. Utah lawmakers say they don't yet know the full impact of the Trump administration's plan, but they are working to learn more. Officials with the Trump administration said programs that provide direct assistance to Americans — such as Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, student loans, and food stamps — would not be affected by the freeze, according to . Utah's state budget for the 2025 to 2026 fiscal year — of more than $28.12 billion — is projected to include more than $7.7 million of revenue from federal funds, according to the state's . 'I'm trying to wrap my head around this. It's a shock,' Senate President (R- District 7) said of the funding freeze on Tuesday. From the perspective of some Utah Democrats, the federal freeze has caused unnecessary alarm and confusion. 'We have a lot of the agencies that usually help a lot of the working, poor families trying to figure out and not panic at this situation,' Sen. Minority Leader (D – District 10) said. On Jan. 28, several Utah agencies reported seeing error messages warning of delays and/or rejections of payments on websites. 'Until we know more we will continue to operate as normal,' the Utah Department of Health and Human Services told adding that the department 'is working within the state's Executive Branch to figure out what this means for those we serve.' Several universities in the Beehive State, including , have said they are assessing what the freeze could mean for them. 'What we do know so far is that the U.S. Department of Education has clarified this funding freeze does not impact student federal loans or Pell grants,' a spokesperson for USU said in a statement. 'However, with more than a third of USU's revenue coming from federal contracts, grants, and federal appropriations, we are still assessing other potential impacts on our education, research, and outreach.' In addition, the (UNA) told that some organizations may have to temporarily or permanently close their doors if the freeze goes into effect. Jill Bennett, the CEO of the UNA said that 'most nonprofits are thinly staffed and thinly funded.' 'Whenever a nonprofit closes, it hurts the community,' Bennett told The policy has been blocked from taking effect until Feb. 3. More information may come from a hearing set for that day.
