UP CM Yogi pays tribute to Chaudhary Charan Singh, praising his land reforms and rural development

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 29 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, and other leaders paid tribute to former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh on his death anniversary in Lucknow on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, CM Yogi Adityanath said, '...As the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, the steps he took for land reform, rural development and transparency of governance in Uttar Pradesh can still be heard and seen in our villages... The steps taken for rural development and the upliftment of farmers in the last 11 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi are proving to be revolutionary. I pay my humble tribute to him on behalf of the people of the state.' Meanwhile, Vice-President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar paid floral tribute to former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh on his death anniversary at Kisan Ghat in Delhi on Thursday. Speaking at the solemn occasion, he remembered Singh's lifelong dedication to farmers and rural India, and urged the farming community to move beyond production and enter agricultural trade. While talking to the media, Vice President Dhankhar said, 'The entire life of Chaudhary Saheb was dedicated to the farmers and villages. He worked for the farmers even in pre-Independent India... He played a pivotal role in granting the ownership to those farmers working in agricultural fields, but didn't have rights over it...' Chaudhary Charan Singh was born in 1902 at Noorpur in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh, in a middle-class peasant family. He shifted to Meerut in 1929 and later joined the Congress. He was first elected to the UP Legislative Assembly in 1937 from Chhaprauli and represented the constituency in 1946, 1952, 1962, and 1967. He became Parliamentary Secretary in Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant's Government in 1946 and worked in various departments such as Revenue, Medical and Public Health, Justice, Information, etc. He was a pivotal figure in the Janata Party. He was not only a seasoned politician but also a prolific writer. His literary works, which include writings on land reforms and agricultural policies, reflect his commitment to societal welfare and economic reforms. He was renowned as the chief architect of land reforms in Uttar Pradesh. His efforts led to the enactment of crucial land reform bills, such as the Department Redemption Bill of 1939 and the Land Holding Act of 1960, which aimed to address issues of land distribution and agricultural sustainability. Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday congratulated the four distinguished personalities from Uttar Pradesh who were honoured with the Padma Shri award by President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi. These four eminent individuals are Dr Shyam Bihari Agrawal, Hriday Narayan Dikshit, Ganeshwar Shastri Dravid, and Dr Satyapal Singh. In his congratulatory message to former Speaker of UP Legislative Assembly Hriday Narayan Dixit, Adityanath in a post on X in Hindi said, "Heartiest congratulations to Shri Hriday Narayan Dixit on being honoured with the 'Padma Shri' award by Hon'ble President Smt Droupadi Murmu ji in New Delhi today! "Your writings are an expression of the Indian culture, philosophy and life values. Your writings reflect a deep national, social and cultural reflection, unwavering faith in nationalism and a divine resolve for social awakening. I wish that your writings always keep the lamp of national consciousness lit." Speaking to PTI from Delhi after receiving the award, Dixit said, "The first feeling after I got the Padma award was this award owes less credit to me or my efforts, and the award is a blessing showered on me by the people of the country, the party of whose I am a worker, its leaders and workers who have always motivated me. My share in the award given to me is very less. This award will inspire me to write more, read more and work more." Congratulating Ganeshwar Shastri Dravid, Adityanath said, "Your unique scholarship and literary pursuit has not only given new dimensions to the Indian knowledge tradition but has also created an invaluable heritage for future generations. Best wishes for your successful life!" CM Adityanath also congratulated para athletics coach Dr Satyapal Singh and painter, writer and teacher Shyam Bihari Agarwal.

Yogi pays tribute to ex-CM HN Bahuguna on birth anniversary

LUCKNOW Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday paid floral tribute to former chief minister late Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna on his birth anniversary, remembering him as a valiant freedom fighter who made significant contributions to India's Independence struggle and also contributed to the development of the state and the country. After offering flowers to a statue of the former CM in Yojana Bhawan, Adityanath honoured Bahuguna's unwavering courage and sacrifices during the Quit India Movement, underscoring his pivotal role in India's struggle for independence, said a statement from his office. 'On behalf of the people of the state, I bow to his memories and pay humble tributes to him. Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna was a great freedom fighter. Due to his active role in the Quit India Movement, he had to face torture at the hands of the British government,' he said. Bahuguna was born on April 25, 1919, in Pauri Garhwal (now Uttarakhand) and died on March 17, 1989, in Ohio, United States. 'He entered public life in 1952 by becoming a member of the UP Legislative Assembly for the first time. As a minister in the state government, chief minister and Union minister, he contributed to the development of the state and the country by showing leadership ability in many ministries,' added Adityanath. Adityanath said that after getting educated in his native village, Bahuguna came to Prayagraj for higher studies and joined the freedom movement there. 'The contribution he made to the development of the state and the country is being continuously honoured and carried forward by the government,' he added. The event was also attended by former MP Rita Bahuguna Joshi, MLA Neeraj Bora, BJP leader Avinash Trivedi, and other dignitaries.
