City pays tribute to Dada Saheb Phalke on his 155th birth anniv

Lucknow: On
155th birth anniversary
of Dada Saheb Phalke, actor and dramatist Anil Rastogi and senior Journalist Rajveer Ratan were honoured by
UP Film and TV Akademi
with its
Dada Saheb Phalke
Lifetime Service award at a function held in UP Press club on Wednesday.
Dada Saheb Phalke is known as the father of
Indian cinema
and is credited with making India's first feature film

Chief guest was noted author Vidya Bindu Singh. Programme began with a documentary on the life of Dada Saheb Phalke in which his love for photography and film making were shown. Phalke went to go to London to study film making. After coming back, he had to struggle to find a female actress for the movie as it was not considered good to act in movies in those days. In the end, his son had to play the role of the female protagonist.
"I have constantly tried to give my best to cinema and stage and never thought of getting so much love, respect and recognition when I started," said Rastogi after receiving the award.
Founder of the UP Film and TV Akademi Sunil Bhatt said, "There is a necessity of developing a film city in the state with modern technology as it will create employment and help in emergence of new talent."
