Baghdad backs Iran-Israel ceasefire
Shafaq News/ Iraq on Wednesday welcomed the ceasefire between Iran and Israel, warning against actions that could reignite the conflict. The ceasefire, announced on June 23 by President Donald Trump under a US-Qatari initiative, ended 12 days of Israeli strikes on Iranian targets and retaliatory missile and drone attacks from Tehran. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, in a meeting with the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Iraq, Mohamed Al Hassan, emphasized the need to sustain a regional peace. He also called for unified action to end the violence and prevent further suffering.

HH The Amir meets US President Donald Trump at the Amiri Diwan
American President Donald Trump arrived in Doha to a warm welcome on Wednesday. He was greeted at the airport by HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and other top officials. The US president said he looked forward to working with Qatar 'in the highest capacity' on peacebuilding efforts. 'I want to thank you for everything and particularly our friendship. It's been a very loyal, beautiful friendship,' said Trump. Meanwhile, Sheikh Tamim said he was 'very excited' for the visit that could boost US-Qatari ties on all fronts — from investment to energy, to military cooperation. He also highlighted the chance to 'bring peace to the region.' 'President Trump, I've known you for many years. I know that you're a man of peace,' said the Qatari emir. 'I know that you want to bring peace to this region … We hope that this time we can do the wise thing and bring peace.' This is the first visit by a US president to Qatar since President George W Bush visited the Gulf nation in 2003. In Doha, Trump is expected to focus on enhancing economic partnerships, strengthening defence ties and advancing regional security. Qatar, a key diplomatic player in the region, has taken a central role in Gaza ceasefire negotiations and humanitarian co-ordination, and those topics are expected to feature in the discussions. The high-profile visit follows the GCC-US summit in Riyadh, and underscores the important strategic partnership between the region and USA. Qatar is expected to announce significant investment commitments in the US. Qatar Airways is also likely to unveil a major deal to purchase around 100 wide-body jets from US manufacturers. There will also be symbolic gestures, including Qatar's proposal to gift a luxury Boeing 747-8 aircraft for use as Air Force One. Business forums and joint venture announcements are also on the agenda, as Qatari and American leaders seek to expand bilateral trade and technological collaboration.
