The Best Bike Lights for Getting Home Safe
These stylish yet affordable lights are impressively secure, but easy to take on and off, twisting neatly into place on their magnetic mounts. The mounts are rubber and adjustable to fit on a wide range of tube sizes, and the rear mount has a practical angle built in, which is perfect for a seat post. Each light offers four modes, with two levels of solid light and two flashing. There are no disruptive flash patterns, though, which is a pity. Battery life is impressive, and charging is simple with USB C (the lights flash green while charging) and only takes two hours. They're IPX4 showerproof, which is fine too, although don't drop them in a puddle. They're surprisingly bright for small lights and keep pace with the Trek Ion 200 RT / Flare RT light set below, but they do have a narrower beam. The lens at the front lights up, so there's a line of visible light from the side. The Treks were more impressive and a bit smaller, but these cost half as much, and they attach and detach from their mounts brilliantly. Specs Dimensions: 1.8 x 1.8 x 1.1 inches front, 2.8 x 1.5 x 1.9 inches rear Weight: 1.2 oz each Lumens: 120 lumens front fixed, 300 lumens front flash; 40 lumens rear fixed, 105 lumens rear flashing Much more than a rear bike light, this premium option includes a 'rearview' radar and camera. It's solidly built with a superb mount, set at the perfect seat post angle. The light is fairly bright (two levels of fixed brightness, two flash patterns, one disruptive) with excellent side visibility. To use, you either pair with a Garmin bike computer, or sync to your smartphone via the Garmin app. It doesn't display live video, like a rear view mirror, but videos are stored onboard, allowing you to download them to your phone if needed. The Varia's accelerometer can also automatically detect a collision and saves clear footage (up to 1080p/30fps) from before, during, and after the incident. By day, the camera gives clear footage stamped with date, time, speed, and location. You can usually make out license numbers too. There's no night vision, though, so at night it just picks up what your rear light, and any street lights, illuminate. The built-in radar alarm loudly alerted me to cars approaching from behind. I could see on my smartphone screen (mounted securely onto my handlebars) how many and how far away they were. It's a great feature, but it is only sensitive to relative movement, so if a nice driver hangs back till it's safe to pass, they vanish. I also paired it with a Garmin Edge 1050 ($600) bike computer, and you can even turn lights on and off from the computer itself. Whether you ride with a map or stats onscreen, radar alerts appear at the sides, again with an audible beep. If you don't already ride with a bike computer, I actually preferred the simplicity of the smartphone screen. Specs Dimensions: 4.1 x 1.7 x 1.3 inches Weight: 5.2 oz each Lumens: 20 lumens fixed, 65 lumens flashing

JBL Beam Tune 2 Looks And Delivers Like A Reliable TWS Earbuds
Last Updated: JBL Beam Tune 2 is the latest TWS earbuds in the market priced under Rs 6000 and promises features like ANC, calling support and more. JBL is a known name in the audio space and most of its focus is in the affordable to mid-range segment. The JBL Beam Tune 2 is another addition to its catalogue of products that try to punch above their weight, especially for the price. Most people looking for TWS earbuds need three things: reliable ANC, good sound output and decent battery life. The design aspect does not feature much in their checklist and understandably so. But can the Beam Tune 2 priced under Rs 6,000 offer most of these basics and offer a compelling product? We tested the device for a week to give you the answer. Keeping It Compact The Beam Tune 2 has a compact form at least with the charging case which suggests JBL has given it a lot of thought while developing the product. You get the standard LED charging status next to the lid and the earbuds sit comfortably inside the case. The JBL and Beam Tune 2 branding at the front and back, respectively is hard to miss and the textured finish makes us believe in its long-term durability. The USB C charging port sits at the bottom of the case which could have easily been accommodated on the side. The earbuds have the ideal size and weight that can be worn for long duration, even though we highly recommend you to avoid that for health reasons. The buds have touch controls that activate with the voice message when you wear them. Speaking of which, the earbuds are comfortable to wear and they do not threaten to fall off at any time. Having said that, the materials used on the buds can be slippery, especially when you take them out of the case. What It Offers The Beam Tune 2 supports ANC with varied levels that you can activate from the buds. It has some of the basic features covered for a TWS earbuds but in-ear detection is missing which could have been added. Gesture controls are also available and if you want to try them, the JBL Headphones app is the place to be. The earbuds get 6 mics in total which is essential for calling purposes and JBL is ensuring that people have that available with the Beam Tune 2. You can even change the equaliser settings or activate spatial sound for different content and genre. So, yeah, the Beam Tune 2 has a loaded feature list and covers most of them. How It Sounds Does the Beam Tune 2 match its features with the right sound profile? Most people will like its balanced audio output which is neither too heavy on bass or loses out the mids to fit in the voices. The use of 10mm drivers did surprise us a bit but the results were positive. The ANC levels are good as long as you are in an office space but venture out wearing them and you notice some noise creeping through. Even at the highest ANC settings those earbuds do a good job but not the best we've seen lately. The use of three mics each means the calling quality is good and you can hear the person speaking or hearing quite nicely. The pairing of the device is also seamless, both for phones and laptops. And like we mentioned, not having in-ear detection means you have to wear the buds and play the content yourself which is not a real deal breaker. Does It Last? The charging case packs a 590mAh battery that is claimed to last for around 10 hours of playback with ANC enabled. We did not have a tough time with the Beam Tune 2 and got it running on a single charge for well over 8 hours and close to JBL's claimed figures. top videos View all You have support for fast-charging which gives you 4 hours of support with 15 minutes of charging. The full tank does take more than an hour and then runs long. JBL Beam Tune 2 is a hard-core TWS earbuds for under 6,000 that everyone should consider if they are happy to stretch the budget. It gets ANC, a reliable option for calls and the battery life is decent. The compact design makes it easy to carry but not having in-ear detection feels like a con that needs to be highlighted. TN floats tender for mid-spec laptops to give students free
Chennai: The state govt has floated an international tender to procure 10 lakh laptops to distribute free to students. The govt had earlier announced that 20 lakh laptops will be provided to college students over two years. Following a recent meeting with deputy chief minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, the Electronic Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT) floated tenders on Friday to procure 10 lakh mid-spec laptops in the first phase. Officials said each laptop will be procured at a cost of about 20,000, with 2,000 crore in this budget and equal funding expected in the next budget. The laptops specified generally cost between 30,000 and 35,000 in the market. Officials with ELCOT said the contractor must provide at least one lakh laptops for the tenders to be valid. The specifications mandate firms to supply laptops with any processor equal to or above Intel Core I3 or AMD Ryzen, with a minimum RAM of eight gigabytes. The laptops shall be 14 inches or 15.6 inches, and they must have at least one USB C type port (for fast file transfers). "In the past, the govt provided the most basic version of Pentium laptops with only dual-core processors and 2GB RAM. The ones given now are the latest generation four-core processors with eight GB RAM. "This will help students edit videos and also play 4K videos on the laptop without issues. We are giving higher RAM to ensure it stays fast for many years," said the official. The laptops will also have modern and faster solid-state drive hard drives and a 720p HD video camera. The students will also get a free one-year subscription to Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Excel, and Teams. Android 16 To Finally Support Desktop Mode? Here's What We Know
Last Updated: Android 16 beta is available across devices but it seems Google has a big upgrade in the works which will make the users happy. Android phones have got limited support for the PC mode, something that Samsung offers with the DeX mode for its users. But soon we could see it extend to all Android devices, at least those with enough power to give it the right level of performance. The Android 16 beta developer edition reportedly has the option that lets you enable desktop-like experience by connecting the smartphone to the PC/laptop. The test has been spotted running on the Pixel 8 Pro model connected to a laptop. Android 16 Desktop Mode Incoming? The Android 16 beta version with the DeX-like feature has been shared by tipster Mishaal Rahman in this report earlier this week. The mode basically means you can connect the phone (Pixel 8 Pro in this case) with a laptop using the USB C wired cable on both ends. Doing this, allowed him to get the Android phone's taskbar calling with the highlight apps option at the bottom of the display. You can see all the apps on the app drawer of the Pixel phone opening in full-screen mode, something that will make these devices extremely versatile. The Google Pixel phones are likely to support the feature initially, if the company finds the results good enough for a public roll out. We are also hoping that Google eventually offers support for other high-end Android 16 phones which will make the platform appealing to more users. The Android Show is unlikely to be just about Android 16, and we could see the new TV version from Google also, the Wear OS 6 version and its features. Google is planning for an earlier Android 16 release date this year, which means the company needs to be quick with its beta and public updates. We'll be keeping a close eye on the updates from the events and Google about the desktop mode. First Published: May 06, 2025, 10:57 IST
