Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Rural and Regional Development Dato' Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is said to undertake an official visit to the Republic of Indonesia as part of the continued close cooperation between both nations following the State Visit of the President of the Republic of Indonesia to Malaysia in January this year. The Deputy Prime Minister is expected to discuss and explore opportunities for cooperation, particularly in the fields of education, with a focus on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET); the halal industry; rural development; and disaster management. He will also witness the exchange of three Letters of Intent; two on TVET collaboration between Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) and the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta, and between UniKL and the Provincial Government of West Sumatra; and one between Education Malaysia Global Services and the Provincial Government of West Sumatra focusing on higher education. As part of the programme, the Deputy Prime Minister will also visit Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and the Emergency Operation Centre at the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre). The Deputy Prime Minister will also participate in a Halal Roundtable Session and engage in discussions with key representatives from the Indonesian franchise industry, including the Indonesian Franchise Association (AFI) and Waraba and Licence Franchise Indonesia (WALi). In 2024, the Republic of Indonesia was Malaysia's sixth largest trading partner globally and the second largest among ASEAN member states. Total bilateral trade in 2024 was recorded at RM116.29 billion (USD25.5 billion), an increase of 4.5 percent from RM111.21 billion (USD24.39 billion) in 2023. Related
