Scientists have discovered one of the most important mineral deposits in modern history beneath the earth of Western Australia. As per scientists**,** it is the largest iron ore deposit ever discovered and is potentially worth trillions of dollars. The iron ore deposit has been found in the Hamersley province. This province has long been known for its mineral wealth.
The newly discovered iron ore reserves are estimated to contain 60 billion tons of high-grade material. An average market price of USD 95 per tonne, the estimated value of the reserves is around USD5.8 trillion.
The Chenab Bridge's construction utilized approximately 30,000 metric tons of steel. A separate mine possesses an estimated 60 billion short tons of minerals, a quantity sufficient to theoretically construct 1,814,370 Chenab Bridge equivalents. This calculation is approximate, however, as steel's iron content is only about 97%, with the remainder consisting of carbon.
Australia's substantial contribution to industrial raw materials could be significantly alter international supply networks and solidify its leading role in this sector.
Recent geological analysis has revised the estimated age of the discovery. Previously believed to be 2.2 billion years old, it is now thought to be approx 1.4 billion years old.
