Hyderabad: Biodiversity Conservation and Energy Transition project completes one year at Nehru Zoological Park
Hyderabad, May 6 (UNI) United Way of Hyderabad (UWH), in partnership with HSBC Global Service Centres, India, marked the completion of the first year of the Biodiversity Conservation and Energy Transition project at Nehru Zoological Park (NZP), in Hyderabad
The park, run by the Forest Department, Govt of Telangana, is the most visited destinations in Hyderabad
The project, which commenced on November 24, has seen significant advancements in renewable energy and clean mobility solutions within the zoo.
Over the past few months, the initiative has successfully introduced electric vehicles for staff and visitor transport, including 13 EV bikes with carriers for animal care staff, six EV bikes for other staff and six battery-operated buggies for visitors, and installed 80 solar street lights at various locations in the park.
These efforts have positioned Nehru Zoological Park as a model for sustainability and environmental stewardship in India.
Reflecting on the milestone, Rekha Srinivasan, CEO of United Way of Hyderabad, said, 'This initiative has already started making a measurable difference in reducing the zoo's carbon footprint. Through innovative interventions, we are not only enhancing biodiversity conservation but also fostering environmental responsibility among visitors.'

NZP Director Dr. Sunil Hiremath said 'A Memorandum of Understanding was exchanged between NZP and UWH, solidifying their commitment to the long-term sustainability of this program and the co-creation of other programs of mutual interest in the future.
