PM Modi inaugurates Satna & Datia Airports: All you need to know about two new airports in Madhya Pradesh

PM Modi inaugurates Satna & Datia Airports: To boost the regional connectivity in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday virtually inaugurated two airports in Madhya Pradesh. By launching the newly developed Satna Airport and the upgraded Datia Airport, the government aims to extend the benefits of air travel to the Bundelkhand and Baghelkhand regions of the state under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) scheme. The two airports will connect the historic towns Datia and Satna to the national aviation map. 'The operationalization of Satna and Datia Airports is expected to yield substantial economic and social benefits, providing improved connectivity, creating direct and indirect employment, and catalyzing the growth of related sectors such as hospitality, retail, education, and healthcare,' the government said in a statement. The Satna Airport has been developed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) at a cost of ₹ 36.96 crore. It is set to serve as a major regional hub in northeastern Madhya Pradesh. The terminal building, spread over 768 square meters, is equipped to handle 50 peak-hour passengers and up to 2.5 lakh passengers annually. The Satna district is known for its cultural and industrial prominence. Its new airport will provide seamless connectivity to religious and industrial centers such as Chitrakoot and Maihar. The airport has modern passenger amenities, a recarpeted runway, apron facilities for Dornier-228 aircraft, and dedicated infrastructure including an ATC tower and fire station. It also has sustainable features such as 100% LED lighting, solar streetlights, and treated water reuse for horticulture. The upgraded Datia Airport has been constructed at a cost of ₹ 60.63 crore. Its terminal building is spread over 768 square meters with the capacity to handle 150 peak-hour passengers and an annual footfall of 2.5 lakh. With operational readiness for ATR-72 aircraft and future plans to accommodate A-320 aircraft, Datia Airport is a critical gateway for pilgrims and tourists visiting the renowned Peetambara Peeth and Datia Palace.

New Delhi [India], May 31 (ANI): In a significant milestone for regional connectivity and infrastructure development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday virtually inaugurated the newly developed Satna Airport and the upgraded Datia Airport in Madhya Pradesh. The historic occasion, which marks a transformative leap for the Bundelkhand and Baghelkhand regions, was celebrated through physical events held at both airports, symbolising the Government of India's resolve to extend the benefits of air travel to every corner of the country under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) scheme, according to the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The ceremony at Datia Airport was graced by the presence of Union Minister for Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu, while the event at Satna Airport was attended by Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol. Both ministers highlighted the Ministry of Civil Aviation's unwavering focus on enhancing regional connectivity, improving accessibility, and catalysing local economies. The Satna Airport, developed by the Airports Authority of India at a cost of Rs 36.96 crore, is set to serve as a major regional hub in northeastern Madhya Pradesh. Known for its cultural and industrial prominence, Satna's new airport will now provide seamless connectivity to religious and industrial centers such as Chitrakoot and Maihar. The terminal building, spread over 768 square meters, can handle 50 peak-hour passengers and up to 2.5 lakh passengers annually. With modern passenger amenities, a recarpeted runway, apron facilities for Dornier-228 aircraft, and dedicated infrastructure including an ATC tower and fire station, the airport is poised to transform regional mobility. Sustainable features such as 100 per cent LED lighting, solar streetlights, and treated water reuse for horticulture further underline the eco-conscious approach adopted in its development. The upgraded Datia Airport, constructed at a cost of Rs 60.63 crore, will connect the historic town of Datia--revered for its spiritual significance and architectural heritage--to the national aviation map. The airport features a 768-square-meter terminal building with the capacity to handle 150 peak-hour passengers and an annual footfall of 2.5 lakh. With operational readiness for ATR-72 aircraft and future plans to accommodate A-320 aircraft, Datia Airport is a critical gateway for pilgrims and tourists visiting the renowned Peetambara Peeth and Datia Palace. The airport infrastructure includes a newly recarpeted runway, apron bays, ATC tower, and a fire station, alongside sustainability measures like rainwater harvesting and energy-efficient lighting systems. The operationalisation of Satna and Datia Airports is expected to yield substantial economic and social benefits, providing improved connectivity, creating direct and indirect employment, and catalysing the growth of related sectors such as hospitality, retail, education, and healthcare. These projects are a testimony to the government's unwavering dedication to transforming the aviation landscape in India and making development reach the last mile. The inauguration events also witnessed the august presence of the Governor of Madhya Pradesh, Mangubhai C Patel, the Chief Minister, Mohan Yadav, the Deputy Chief Ministers, Rajendra Shukla and Jagdish Devda, the MoCA Secretary, Samir Kumar Sinha, and the AAI Chairman, Vipin Kumar, along with other senior dignitaries and public representatives. Students use Saharsa airport runway as makeshift exam centre

Patna: Bizarre but true! What the civil aviation ministry envisioned through its 'Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik' (UDAN) scheme did not include students using airport runways as makeshift exam centres. In a viral video circulating on social media on Friday, around 300 students were seen studying and writing mock test papers on the runway of Saharsa airport . This is not the first time the Saharsa runway has drawn public attention. Previous videos have shown locals using it for morning walks and even bike races. Under the UDAN scheme , Saharsa airport received an allocation of Rs 25 crore for its development. The civil aviation ministry recently approved the Bihar govt's request to develop new airports in the state. The project evaluation committee (PEC) recommended the establishment of six small airports in Bihar, sanctioning Rs 25 crore for each in the first phase. In total, Rs 190 crore has been approved for the development of seven new airports across the state, including one in Purnia. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo In the latest video, head of a private coaching institute, is heard explaining the rationale behind using the airport runway. "We had no space on our campus to accommodate such a large number of job aspirants preparing for competitive exams, mainly for the police and army services. We will not use the space for such purposes once flights begin operating from the airport," he said, adding that other private coaching centres were also using the runway for similar purposes. These academies typically begin by providing physical training to aspirants, both boys and girls, followed by written assessments to evaluate their preparedness. Due to the need for ample open space to accommodate 200-300 students, the institutes have turned to the vacant runway. Written tests are held every Sunday. Students sit in neat rows directly on the tarmac, penning answers in exam-style conditions. The viral video clearly shows them seated in orderly queues, taking the tests. Speaking to a television news channel, the coaching centre owner mentioned that physical training on the Saharsa airport runway has been going on for several years. "Now, we have started conducting written tests here as well," he added.

CM's airport infra push: Runway expansion at Amravati, upgradation at Shirdi

Nagpur: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday directed officials to prepare a detailed expansion plan for the runway at Amravati Airport , citing the region's increasing industrial activity and potential for revenue generation. The directive was issued during the 91st meeting of the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) held in Mumbai. The CM emphasised the need to extend the existing 1,850m runway to 3,000m for accommodating larger aircraft and enhancing air connectivity. This move follows the recent inauguration of Amravati Airport's first commercial flight under the 'Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik' (Udan) scheme, which marked the city's entry into India's aviation map. In addition to the runway expansion, Fadnavis highlighted the establishment of Air India's pilot training institute at Amravati, which is poised to become the largest in South Asia. This development is expected to boost the local economy and create employment opportunities in the aviation sector. For Chandrapur Airport, Fadnavis suggested extending the runway to allow for chartered aircraft operations. He also directed officials to look for two to three alternate locations for setting up an airstrip in Gadchiroli. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Intel Laptops + 1:1 Support for Your Team Lenovo Pro Benefits Learn More Undo With Nashik and Trimbakeshwar set to host Kumbh Mela in 2027, the CM approved infrastructure upgrades at Shirdi Airport, including the construction of two helipads and eight vehicle parking bays. Fadnavis also underscored the importance of accelerating development work at Latur Airport to support its rising significance in the Marathwada region. The upgraded facility is expected to serve neighbouring districts such as Beed and Dharashiv. Additionally, he called for the speedy execution of work at Karad Airport, including provisions for night landing. The meeting also reviewed the progress of airport works in Ratnagiri, Akola, Kolhapur, Nanded, and Dhule. Officials said that 16 regional air routes are currently operational under the Udan scheme , with eight more proposals submitted to govt. Senior officials from the finance, transport, and industry departments, including additional chief secretaries OP Gupta and Sanjay Sethi, and MIDC CEO P Velrasu, were present during the meeting.
