Water supply hit after power outage derails pumping stns

Bhopal: Around 15% of the state capital's water supply was affected owing to power supply failure, on Wednesday. The impact of water supply remained on Thursday with estimated 4 lakh residents seeking alternatives. A sudden power supply failure on Wednesday led to significant disruptions in Bhopal's water supply, affecting nearly 15% of the city, according to Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) city engineer Udit Garg. Power outage was well before the rainfall that took place in the evening, confirmed one BMC zone officer in charge of water supply. Areas impacted included BHEL, Jehangirabad, TT Nagar among others. Pumping stations connected near Vidhan Sabha water pumping station were also impacted. While authorities worked to restore services, many residents continued to struggle with shortages on Thursday, prompting urgent calls for alternative arrangements. The water crisis affected several areas across the state capital, with households experiencing low pressure or complete supply cuts. Many residents reported their storage running dry, leading to increased demand for water tankers and private sources. In some neighbourhoods, individuals resorted to purchasing bottled water or relying on nearby borewells. "I haven't received a single drop since yesterday morning. We are managing with stored water, but if this continues, we'll have to call a tanker," said a resident at Koh-e-Fiza. Officials from the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) acknowledged the issue and assured residents that water supply would gradually normalize. The power failure disrupted pumping stations, delaying regular distribution schedules. It is not clear, if how many water tanker services were deployed in the worst-hit areas.
