Baseball: Seiji Uebayashi home run gives Dragons 2-1 win against BayStars
NAGOYA (Kyodo) -- Seiji Uebayashi broke out of a mini-slump with a two-run blast to give the Chunichi Dragons a 2-1 win against the DeNA BayStars in Central League baseball on Wednesday.
The 29-year-old outfielder opened the scoring with one on and one out in the bottom of the first at Vantelin Dome Nagoya, launching a 1-1 splitter from Shinichi Onuki (0-2) deep over right field.
The decisive home run snapped a streak of nine at-bats without a hit for Chunichi RBI leader Uebayashi, who has been settling into his role at No. 3 in the lineup.
"I haven't been in good form recently, so I'm glad we were able to score first," said Uebayashi. "The role of the third batter is to bring home runners."
The Dragons ended their four-game losing streak on the back of six shutout innings from starter Yudai Ono (1-1), who notched his first win after limiting the Japan Series champions BayStars to two hits and a walk.
Chunichi closer Shinya Matsuyama surrendered one run with two out in the ninth before getting his 12th save.
