Tyrone lift Ulster minor title with win over Cavan at Brewster
Tyrone 2-11 Cavan 1-08 A strong last eleven minutes during which they scored 1-03 without reply saw Tyrone get the better of a gallant Cavan side to lift the Ulster Minor Championship title at Brewster Park in Enniskillen on Sunday evening. Tyrone got off to a blistering start to the game but by halftime, it was Cavan who were in the ascendancy leading 1-07 to 0-08. James Mulgrew, Thomas Meenan, Peter Colton and Eoin Long all registered in the opening five minutes as the Red Hands were quickly out of the traps. A free from Fsolan Graham opened Cavan's account in the sixth minute before Jake Brady reduced the deficit further with a superb score. Efforts from Colton and Eoin Long had Tyrone four clear but the rest of the half belonged to Cavan. Wing half-back John Donohoe hit a brilliant two-pointer and after Padraig Donaghy and Nathan Quigley had traded scores a two-pointer from midfielder Grahsm levelled matters. Cavan now had the momentum and just before the break a shot from Quigley took a defection on its way to the net. Tyrone missed a number of chances on the restart before Cathal Farley got their first goal in the 37th minute. A free from Quigley levelled matters but with twenty minutes left to play that proved to be their last score. The quality wasn't as good as the first half but Joel Kerr fired in a 49th minute goal and the winners kicked on. A free from Long was followed by a brace from play from Kerr as Tyrone set up an All-Ireland quarter-final with Cork. Despite defeat, Cavan are also through to the last eight where they will face Kerry.
