Skin cancer month: Prevention and early detection are vital
PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — May is skin cancer awareness month due to increased outdoor activities, but skin cancer signs and treatments don't take the other 11 months off. There are five million cases of skin cancer diagnosed every year. Dr. Brian Curtis of OSF Healthcare stopped by WMBD This Morning, with some skin cancer detection and prevention tips. He said for sunscreen 'nothing is waterproof, they'll say water 'resistant' and get something with and SPF of greater than 15, and that has UVA UVB protection.' 'UVA' and 'UVB' refer to different Ultra Violet rays of the sun that both play roles in skin cancer, and SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor–a measure of how much longer, with the lotion, one could endure sun exposure, compared to no sunscreen. Curtis also had some advice about skin cancer detection and treatment. He said, 'it's the most common cancer, in the world, there's over 5 million cases a year, about 10 to 16 thousand people die a year, because of it, but its's 99% preventable if you catch it early.' Dr. Curtis' encourages checking your skin monthly, and 'anything that you're actually concerned about, I would get in and get checked, but definitely, anything that's new, anything with irregular boarders, and anything growing'. Earth Day 2025: Our amazing atmosphere
The Earth has a fascinating atmosphere that contains several unique layers The Troposphere is the layer that we live in, it starts at the surface but the height often varies to about 9-12 miles up. This layer is composed of This layer is composed of composed of 71% Nitrogen, 21% Oxygen and 1% of other gasses. All weather that we experience is confined to this layer. Just above the Troposphere contains the stratosphere, which is the layer that commercial jets fly in. The Stratosphere can also be described as one of the most important layers because it's where you'll find the Ozone layer. This layer helps protect us from harmful UV (Ultra Violet) radiation by absorbing most of it before it reaches the surface, without this life, would not be possible as we know it. The Mesosphere or middle layer is next and can be described as the coldest layer of the atmosphere, this is also the layer that meteors burn up. This happens because of the speed of the meteors but also because of the increased presence of gas molecules compared to the layers above it. The gas molecules and speed of the meteors create friction and heat which causes them to 'burn up'. Above the Mesosphere is the thermosphere The Thermosphere is known as the hot layer of the atmosphere with a temperature up to 4,000 degrees. It's thin layer, lack of gas molecules, swelling and sinking air causes the temperature to soar. The Auroras or northern lights also can be found in this layer and at the top of this layer, the International Space Station and other low-orbit satellites can be found. The final layer of the atmosphere is the Expsophere, the layer that most satellites roam and is the layer that is considered the end of our atmosphere and where 'outer space' begins. Tate brothers back in Romania to fight 'garbage' human trafficking allegations
March 22 (UPI) -- British-American influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan returned to Romania aboard a private jet from Miami, where they face human trafficking and other charges. Andrew Tate, 38, and Tristan Tate, 36, landed at Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport early Saturday local time. They had flown in the United States on Feb. 27 after Romanian prosecutors lifted a two-year travel ban following of their arrests in December 2022. Speaking to reporters Saturday outside his residence in Bucharest, Andrew Tate said "anyone who believed any of this garbage has a particularly low IQ." "After all we've been through, we truly deserve the day in court where it is stated that we've done nothing wrong and that we should have never been in court in the first place," Andrew Tate said. "We should have never gone to jail. We should have never had our assets seized. We should have never had our names slandered. Andrew Tate, a former professional kickboxer with 10.8 million followers on X, posted a picture with his brother to the social media platform from the flight, writing that "innocent men don't run. THEY CLEAR THEIR NAME IN COURT." Romanian prosecutors said the brothers are "under judicial control" and must regularly report to the authorities, with the first check-in scheduled for Monday. The brothers are accused of human trafficking and forming an organized group to sexually exploit women in Romania. Andrew Tate, a self-proclaimed "misogynist" who claims to have made millions from social media despite being previously banned from platforms for his views, also is accused of rape. In addition, they are the targets of a separate investigation in Britain into allegations of rape and human trafficking. In the United States, a woman in a civil suit also alleges the brothers coerced her into sex work, and then defamed her after she gave evidence to Romanian authorities. They have denied the allegations. After they arrived in Florida, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said the state has "zero tolerance for people who abuse women and girls." He announced an active criminal investigation into the brothers, led by the Office of Statewide Prosecution. UltraViolet, a female-led gender-justice organization, has launched an advertising campaign against the Tates, accusing President Donald Trump of facilitating them to come to the United States. Trump has said he didn't know anything about the release of the brothers, who are Trump supporters. Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, said of the Tate brothers arrival in the state last month that "the reality is, Florida is not a place where you are welcome, with that type of conduct in the air. "I found out through the media that this was something that was happening," he said at the time. The Tates' attorney, Joseph McBride, blasted UltraViolet's campaign in a statement to the Miami Herald. "Feminism is a cancer that is responsible for the breakdown of the natural family, the rearing of pathetic men, and the genocide of children in the womb," McBride said in the statement. "The fact these losers want to jail Andrew and Tristan Tate for preaching their version of traditional masculinity highlights the fact that these fascist feminists are fragile weaklings incapable of defending their position in the free marketplace of ideas. Long live the First Amendment."

Andrew Tate heads to Romania to meet legal obligations
Online influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have left the United States for Romania on a private flight to fulfil legal obligations related to a criminal investigation against them, they said. The brothers are under investigation in Romania on accusations of forming an organised criminal group, human trafficking, trafficking of minors, sexual intercourse with a minor and money laundering. They have denied all wrongdoing. "Spending $US185,000 ($A294,132) on a private jet across the Atlantic to sign one single piece of paper in Romania," Tate posted on social media platform X. "Innocent men don't run. They clear their name in court." Spending 185,000 dollars on a private jet across the Atlantic to sign one single piece of paper in men don't run. THEY CLEAR THEIR NAME IN COURT 😉 — Andrew Tate (@Cobratate) March 21, 2025 As part of preventative judicial control measures pending the investigation, the Tates are required to regularly check in with police. Their next check-in is due on March 24. Their return from Florida comes three weeks after Romanian prosecutors lifted a travel ban against them. A US source familiar with the matter acknowledged that Washington had pressed Bucharest to give the brothers, who have dual US and British citizenship, their passports and allow them to travel. Andrew Tate's media team said they would arrive at their home near the Romanian capital Bucharest late at night local time. Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said on March 4 his office had opened a criminal investigation against the brothers, a move welcomed by the National Center on Sexual Exploitation, which represents one of Tate's alleged victims, a Florida resident. Tate said on X at the time that the brothers had returned to Miami to see family and been insulted by the opening of the investigation. "We have no criminal record and expected a hero's welcome after being unfairly abused abroad," he posted. On Thursday, UltraViolet, a national women-led gender-justice organisation put up "Unwanted" posters across Miami, demanding that the Tates be extradited. An initial criminal case against Tate and his brother failed in December when a Bucharest court decided not to start the trial and sent the files back to prosecutors, citing flaws in the indictment. A British arrest warrant has also been issued for the Tates and they will be extradited after Romanian trial proceedings are completed. The allegations in Britain - denied by them - relate to sexual aggression between 2012 and 2015.
