Ultraman hype returns with DRUM collab and Faizal Hussein's touching tribute to hero dads

KUALA LUMPUR, May 30 — Malaysian actor Faizal Hussein shines in a heartfelt new promo for the DRUM x Ultraman fashion collaboration. In the video, Faizal portrays a father who seems to have lost interest in Ultraman — until his daughter launches a DRUM Ultraman fashion line for Father's Day, rekindling his childhood admiration for the iconic hero. The narrative strikes a sentimental tone, culminating in the moving tagline: 'Every dad was a kid once. Some never stop being heroes'. Fans will recognise several well-known Ultra figurines featured throughout the video, including Ultraman Zero and Ultraman Regulos. The DRUM x Ultraman collection was unveiled yesterday at a pop-up event held at Lot 10, Bukit Bintang, where it was attended by VIPs, guests, members of the Ultraman fan club called Ultraman Malaysia Crew (UMCrew). Members of Ultraman Malaysia Crew, an Ultraman fan club, pose for a photo with Ultraman Tiga and event MC, Hani. — Photo courtesy of Ultraman Malaysia Crew Faizal himself was present, sporting a signature DRUM Ultra jacket and even posing for a photo with none other than the legendary Ultraman Tiga. The event will run until June 1, giving fans a chance to visit and express their love for the Ultra Hero. DRUM, a Malaysian fashion brand known for its men's and women's streetwear — including T-shirts, shirts, jumpers, hoodies, jeans, and jackets — is the latest local label to collaborate with the Ultraman IP, following previous partnerships with TNTCO and Pestle & Mortar. The Ultraman phenomenon continues to captivate Malaysians, most recently with The Ultra Tour at Sunway Putra Mall, which concluded on May 12. Now, with Ultraman Arc The Movie: The Clash of Light and Evil hitting Malaysian cinemas this July at TGV, Ultraman is set to be the talk of the town again.

'Superman' Secret Villain Identity Confirmed

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors Ever since the first teaser for James Gunn's 'Superman', fans have been theorizing about one of the more physical villains in the film. In various clips, David Corenswet's Superman is seen fighting a man dressed head-to-toe in dark leather, including a mouthless mask with goggles. The only clue to his identity is the "U" on his chest and the fact that he seems able to physically match Superman. A lot of fans have guessed this is the evil Superman variant, Ultraman. And now, shots of a new toy tie-in to the movie confirms that the mystery man is, in fact, Ultraman. You can see the proof below. A great look at the ULTRAMAN figure for 'SUPERMAN' — DCU Updates (@DCU_Updates) May 15, 2025 Read More: Robert Downey Jr. Continues to Reveal Doctor Doom Story Teases As you can see, the toy tie-in refers to the villain as "DC's Ultraman." Of course, what remains to be seen is just how close to the Ultraman of the comics this version is. David Corenswet as Superman in "Superman" David Corenswet as Superman in "Superman" Warner Bros In the comics, Ultraman is from an alternate universe in which most of people who we know as heroes in DC comics are instead villains. For example, instead of the Justice League of America, Ultraman is part of the Crime Syndicate of America. A villain named Johnny Quick replaces The Flash, Power Ring instead of Green Lantern, Owlman instead of Batman, etc. So if the Ultraman of "Superman" is - like his comic book counterpart - a Superman variant, the question is exactly how A.R.G.U.S. finds him and gets him to help them out. The Ultraman of the comics would need a whole lot of convincing to help A.R.G.U.S. or anyone else to work for something other than his own selfish designs; not to mention doing it while hiding his identity. Of course, it does seem like the multiverse will be present early on in the DCU. The recently released trailer for "Peacemaker" likewise has the titular hero running into what appears to be a multiverse variant of himself. It's also possible that James Gunn is simply using the name Ultraman and that he will have an origin completely different from the version in the comics. "Superman" releases in theaters on July 11. The film is written and directed by James Gunn. "Superman" stars David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced. ‘Superman' trailer: David Corenswet's Man of Steel faces heat as Lois Lane questions his interference in a war

James Gunn, filmmaker and CEO of DC Studios, unveiled a new trailer of his much-hyped Superman film on Wednesday (May 14). Starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, the film promises to tell a one-of-a-kind live-action Superman story. The trailer begins with Clark Kent agreeing to Lois Lane's (Rachel Brosnahan) request to sit for an interview as Superman. The Son of Krypton abides, however, the interview soon turns into a grilling session as Lane questions him on several decisions he had just taken, including interfering in a war. While an annoyed Superman defends himself, stating that he stopped the war and prevented the deaths of countless, we cut to glimpses that show the superhero's actions being questioned by the media, the government, and the people he strives to protect. At one point, he is even arrested for his interference with the war. The trailer also shows Superman having to take on the evil Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), who seems to have an issue with how Superman has 'somehow become the focal point of the entire world's conversation.' The trailer ends with Pa Kent (Pruitt Taylor Vince) telling Clark, 'Your choices, your actions, that's what makes you who you are.' The trailer also glimpses at Isabela Merced's Hawkgirl, Anthony Carrigan's Matamorpho and Edi Gathegi's Mister Terrific, among others. The Hammer of Boravia and Ultraman too make appearances. The cast of the film also features Skyler Gisondo (as Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Terence Rosemore (Otis), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner) and María Gabriela de Faría (The Engineer). María Gabriela de Faría, Wendell Pierce, Alan Tudyk and Neva Howell also feature in the film. DC Studios heads Peter Safran and Gunn produce the film, which has a screenplay written by Gunn. The director is joined by his frequent collaborators for the technical side of things: director of photography Henry Braham, production designer Beth Mickle, costume designer Judianna Makovsky and composer John Murphy, along with editors William Hoy, Jason Ballantine and Craig Alpert. Superman takes flight in the US on July 11 and internationally on July 9.

Godzilla looms over Malaysia's Petronas Twin Towers in 70th anniversary tribute to SE Asian fans (VIDEO)

KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 — Godzilla made a dramatic entrance near Malaysia's iconic Petronas Twin Towers as part of a special video marking the 70th anniversary of the franchise. Japanese entertainment company Toho released the 55-second video tribute titled '70 Years of Godzilla: A New Roar in South-east Asia' for fans yesterday. The video shows the monster towering over Kuala Lumpur's skyline, with other scenes featuring landmarks such as Singapore's Marina Bay and Bali's paddy fields. 'For the first time across South-east Asia, the legend emerges in a powerful tribute to the fans who have kept its legacy alive,' Toho shared in the video's description. The company added, 'This special footage honours South-east Asia, celebrating seven decades of Godzilla's unstoppable journey through the region's iconic landmarks.' Kuala Lumpur's Petronas Twin Towers, once the tallest buildings in the world, were completed in 1998 and remain the tallest twin structures globally. Godzilla was created after World War II as a symbolic reminder of the destructive power of nuclear weapons. Toho's tribute video follows previous Japanese-themed features in the region. In 2021, Japanese superhero Ultraman was depicted battling a Godzilla-like creature at Gardens by the Bay in Singapore, in a tourism movie by special effects studio Tsuburaya Productions. Toho, which owns the Godzilla brand, established a regional subsidiary, Toho Entertainment, in Singapore in November 2024 to expand its reach in Asia.
