Families hailed as quartet of Powys football stars emerge
YOUNG football players across Powys have been urged to follow in the footsteps of a current crop of talent.
This season has been quite eventful for Carrie Jones.
Carrie Jones made a significant move from Bristol City to Swedish club IFK Norrköping in August 2024.
This transfer marked a new chapter in her career as she joined the Damallsvenskan league.
One of her most remarkable achievements was scoring the winning goal that helped Wales qualify for their first major tournament, the UEFA Women's Euro 2025
Her goal in the play-off against the Republic of Ireland was crucial in securing Wales' spot in the Jones' dedication and hard work have certainly paid off, making 2024 a standout year in her football career.
Following in Jones' footsteps is Builth Wells player Chloe Edwards.
The teenager represented the national Welsh under 15 girls in a UEFA football tournament in Croatia.
Harlen Perry of Brecon is also enjoying a blossoming career.
In 2024, he was awarded the Swansea City Under 16s Player of the Season Award and made the step up the U21s side.
Arwyn Walby of Llandrindod Wells is also enjoying his football.
In 2024, he was part of the FC Bayern World Squad while also playing as a central midfielder for Hereford FC in the National League North.
A Sport Powys spokesman said: "Reflecting on the success of footballing stars in Powys, it must be highlighted that the dedication required by players and families alike is astronomical.
"The mileage, the car journeys, the fuel, the hours spent on the side of the pitch, in all weathers, five or six times a week does not go unnoticed and this is the reality of Powys families.
